RIP Ronnie a true Rovers legend
-
Bloody scanners....
OK-Saturday 8th December 1984, 3 PM Ewood Park-Blackburn Rovers V Sheffield United.
This was a game I clearly remember, at a time when legendary marksman Simon Garner was going through a lean spell, and his form was a little patchy. Legend that he is, Saxton was obviously reluctant to drop him as as he could counjor (sp?) up a goal out of nothing and save a point when all seemed lost, and three when all seemed drawn.
Big money summer signing (£32,000!) from Swindon Town Jimmy Quinn was chomping at the bit on the bench, and had already shown signs of unrest at his role in the dugout most weeks. But, as the headline below indicates his time was now, and his short appearance against the Blades was most effective.
Without getting all dewy eyed over the good old days, excitement like I felt at winning this match doesn't seem to come along much any more, and despite Thenodrogs valid views on the state of the English game back then, one cannot help feel a strong sense of nostalgia and a yearning for a return whilst looking back and reading the reports from over 20 years ago.
The points were not enough to keep us op however, as Oxford won 5-0 at home to Charlton to move past us on goal difference.
Last point, this match was the biggest crowd of the season so far, just over 9,000!

Ah Happy days this was my first ever game sat in the old riverside, I got a season ticket for the 85/86 season and had it ever since.

He had to pull his arms out of the way of most of them to stop himslef from saving them !!
If Brad had been in goal it would have been an embarrasing afternoon for Benni, I think UEFA would have changed the title of the film to "How to Save Penalties"
-
Just cam accross this and it is a good interview Ryan has just done with a New Zealand radio station.

What makes me laugh is them calling us "a smaller club" !?!
On what planet are we "smaller" than the "mighty" Wanderers?
I know when i found that thread i was going to join the messageboard and ask what exactly made them a bigger club than us ??
1. Attendances - Just about but there are an extra 100,000 or so living in Notlob.
2. League position - This season but not last.
3. History - We have won the League and FA Cup more times than them.
4. Recent History - No comparison winning the league and a domestic cup in the last 12 years eclipses there's.
And im sure that if we went in for a player and they did (not counting Dunny) we have the higher profile within the game.

Have a look at this thread on the Bolton Fans website, at the start of the thread they were happy as pigs in a breezeblock sty, but as today has developed the thread has become a joke pages 5,6 & 7 deserve a read, i was laughing my arse off.
-
I think he will have to trim down a bit look at this picture from the Bolton website !!!

-
At Amsterdam Airport waiting for my mate to land who is on another flight, he should have got here before me but missed his flight !! so I have an hour to kill.
There were about 100 or more Rovers fans on my flight from Dirty Leeds this morning most of whom were sampling the Yorkshire Ale at 5:00 a.m. so there will be some sore heads in the morning.
Im so excited i feel like a little kid on christmas day !!
COME ON YOU BLUES !!!
-
Wasn't that Wegerle goal against QPR?
No deffo against Newcastle the Darwen End had, had all the roof panels taken off as they were about to knock it down and some geordie bloke climbed up the beams and sat right at the top, the police announced the game wouldnt kick off unless he came down !!! happy days.
-
Anyone flying out on the 7:00 flight from Leeds on Thursday ?? Im meeting my mate in Amsterdam who is flying from Gatwick so it would be nice to speak to someone instead of being a billy no mates !!!
-
I think there will be around 45.000
Should make for a really good atmosphere then !!
-
SFC08 What attendance is expected for Thursday nights match ??
-
I was listening to The Game Podcast from the Times during my commute this morning and Danny Kelly was chatting to Aki Riihilahti about life with Kaiserslautern, the German second division football club - a town with a population of 110,000 - so comparable to Blackburn, the difference is they have gates of 40-50,000 - are sold out 2 weeks before each game.
Yes but in a 150 mile radius of Kaiseslauten there are only 2 other bundesliga Clubs, Frankfurt and Cologne
How many round blackburn ??
-
I have had Rovers World for about 3 Seasons and I think it is well worth the money.
-
the club should take a bit of the blame. there are enough sky channels and several PPV ones. millwall got their uefa game screened by bravo! we only have 700 tickets for the game.
it's down to poor marketing,......... again
Agreed sureley we have a higher profile and if i might be so bold as to say more fans than Bloody Milwall
However for everyone with a Broadband connection the game is being shown on Shanghai Sports, although I cant post a link it is available through most of the streaming softwares.
-
They just havnt updated the EPG, its on there.
Yes Deffo on and great news as I cant get out to Austria !!
-
So what do people know about FC Salzburg?
I know they are top of the league and unbeaten so far !!
-
shame that when he grows up he will be a dingle
Marv you should try and lead him away from the darkside of the force and get him down to Ewood, otherwise he could grow up all bitter and twisted like many of our other friends down the road in the land that time forgot
-
I went to a game at the Turf with a supplier and the hospitality was good, food was top notch and the seats were good sat outside the glass box, got a tour round the ground before the game etc.
Best bit was a dingle fed and watered me all day and Burnley lost to Gillingham good day all round !!
