  1. I just wrote a reply on the "we need a hero" thread and i said Gally can be our hero but he needs to come back stronger and with more regulariry in his games, no matter if he plays 30 or 90 minutes.

I'm glad he performs well for Stoke, he's my favourite Rovers player in the current team and last season i was sad he couldn't show the quality he has. I always support local lads -i know he's scot but you know what i mean, home-grown- and i expect a terribly good partnership (Garner + Gally, the double "G") for Rovers in the future.

  2. FC Porto cos theyve played in blue and white halves the odd season. desperately want that kit, anyone know the last season they played in halves (Oklahoma...) tinykit.gif

    That one is better:

Athletic de Bilbao 2nd kit. They wear this kit cause those were their colours from 1902 to 1910 due to the admiration they had for Rovers at that time, before switching to their current colors: red and white stripes, black shorts.

  3. This is a great rule IMO. It will help to level the league as the top clubs won't be able to sign as many foreigners as they want and we'll be ready to return to European competitions without making any changes on the roster. Our wonderful academy has to show it's benefits...

Look at the extreme examples of treating the Academy in football, as it appears in the Spanish version of the article:

Belgian club Beveren has a 21-men squad, of which 16 come from Ivory Coast laugh.gif

Athletic de Bilbao has fielded 27 players this season, of which 21 came from the Academy (Do you imagine a 21-from-27 squad players from Lancashire?).

  4. If we are going to buy another striker in January, I think it would be great if we could loan Stead out to a 1.div club (championship), burnley anyone?

We know what he is capable of when his confidence is high, he just needs to score a few and get some games under his belt.

Another striker? We've Stead, Gally, Bothroyd, Dickov, Jansen... and in case of absolute need we can promote Derbyshire or Jemal to the first team. We are plenty of (good, IMO) strikers. We should sign instead a Centre midfielder or a centre back.

  5. imo we have only 1 'proper' centre forward in Bothroyd so the question is with every player fit and available who plays beside him? Dickov / Jansen / Stead / Gally? And there's only one answer at the moment.

Well IMO Stead is a proper centre forward. If he succeeds in recovering some "touch" and the fitness he had last season i have no doubt he should be the starter guy in the attack, and his partner could be perfectly Gally. I think Bothroyd and Dickov could be great replacements to turn the luck in a match.

Stead is unfit, had some problems regarding his confidence, etc. but remember the impression he made last year when he showed what he can do on the field. I'm convinced he'll be the next great English striker (last year most of us thought he could be in the English squad for Euro 2004).

  6. Before his signing sources in Spain said he had a "problem". Obviously one that involves gaining weight. Draw your own conclusions. Perhaps he's at the Priory.

I've never heard of weight problems in his whole career in Spain, but maybe we've to think he hasn't played regularly in a year and a half. He has never been a pace prodigy, but his weapons are of other kind.

His problems in Spain came when he was the best league passer two years ago. I think he asked for more money and after the negative, he said he wanted to go. As Real Sociedad had a good replacement (Gabilondo, an Academy guy) they just kept him from playing till his contract expired. So probably he has problems to be fit again, and adding it to his "non-English characteristics" he has the problems we all know (basically, that he doesn't play laugh.gif ). I imagine he'll return to Spain next year.

  7. After watching last game against Birmingham City, i thought we needed a player with a soft touch in the midfield (i never liked Tugay) to partner with Barry, and although i think Thommo could do a good job, maybe De Pedro hasn't the ideal conditions to play as a winger in England, but his abilities fully fit for a midfield role. If i was Hughes i would try putting him as a Ferguson partner, but there must be something more that keeps him from making first team appearances.

Indeed, every weekend, Spanish newspaper Marca tells the performances of the Spanish playing abroad (mostly in Scotland and England): Xabi Alonso, Luis García, Nacho Novo... but the only news about De Pedro were always the same: didn't make for the first team. And then something changed. There is no mention of him in the "abroad review" anymore, as if he ceased to exist.

  8. Great but unfinished comeback. But what makes me feel sad is having the need to comeback at home against Birmingham. I mean, with a decent defense things would be so different... well, a decent defense and a decent partner to Barry. I'm sorry, but Tugay hasn't Premiership level anymore.

At half-time i was decided to start a topic with my real thoughts about the nowadays Rovers. But i'll wait one or two matches with the last hopes for a change, although i'm very pessimistic about relegation.

  9. Luis Fernández. Plenty of international experience in France and Spain, as player and manager. One of the ebst managers i've ever seen, he won leagues and European trophies with PSG before coming to take charge of Athletic de Bilbao, runner-up with no foreigners at all in 1997-98, and later he saved Espanyol from relegation. He took the team absolutely sunk and saved the season miracolously. But he hasn't any experience in the Premiership and don't know if he knows English.

    Only dreaming.

I only ask for one thing to the new manager. A little bit more confidence in the young players than Graeme had. They're the best we ha in the squad IMHO.
