Why should Wigan be allowed another year of Championship football, the income and profile that comes with it, whilst a Barnsley go down instead who have paid their debts as they fall due?

Same applies to Sheffield Wednesday who have clearly fiddled the system deliberately to gain a financial advantage. Their sponsors don't even exist!

Wigan were in the exact same position that Blackburn are, reliant on a foreign investor introducing funds into the club to keep it functioning. Until a month ago when the owner did not honour an agreement he had made with Whelan on his sale of the club by introducing a set amount of money into the club they owed no one any money, all bills have been paid to date, there was no outstanding VAT or Tax to pay
