  1. If anyone wants a recap of the sorry early history of how we are in this mess then this is by far the best and most revealing overview and contains a wealth of gems

**Gems including the war between FA partner Kentaro and Venkys and the legal battle over running contracts that both parties didn’t want known alongside Kentaro acting for both seller and buyer

My assumption is we extended a contract offer for the sake of protecting the asset and giving it one last kick of the can (if it wasn't for his mini-resurgence at Shrews, I'd bet we'd have let him walk) as we were still due compensation at his age if he left on a 'free', but that offer essentially tied him to us.

I doubt there were too many L1 clubs this window willing to spend the (low) 6-figure fee we probably could command at a tribunal (plus probably above-average L1 wages), and I doubt Chapman attracted much Championship interest either. (I don't recall many, if any, rumours of clubs making cash offers for him?). Works out to him being like a borderline valuable 'restricted free agent' (RFA), if you take a North American sports perspective...

From Chapman's POV, he was also probably looking at another year here at ~£4-5k/week here vs £2-3k/week for some L1 club, so a no brainer to sign on and hope for the best.

Clearly he didn't impress enough to nail down a starting spot, so he was probably looking at a year of at most 5 starts + 15-20 subs, and he'll be pushing for starting time at this stage of his career, so fair enough to loan him out and maybe try to sell for a nominal fee in Jan (and presumably Burton are covering some wages too). I suppose the question going forward is how Proveda/Khedra turn out in comparison.

I've only seen his outing at Millwall so far this year (poor, albeit he didn't have much help on the left flank), so maybe I missed positive flashes in the other games. His quick burst is just gone with injuries and poor fitness. His Shrews loan was a welcome surprise, but, as mentioned above, more smoke that he apparently still had some sulky moments and seemingly wasn't an automatic starter despite some goals (16+7). Didn't help that he apparently got sick to start the year too (for all we know that was Mowbray covering for more poor behaviour from Chappers...).

Obviously an odd one, and I can see the case for just cutting our losses instead, but I can't see it as one to get too up in arms about.

Maybe come January he might get a chance if Mowbray isn’t managing. He responded well to a different manager at Shrews so IMO a clash of personalities with Mowbray is perhaps why he isn’t playing not his undoubted potential.

Butty, I am saying what the club knows to done. We are deffo a striker shortly and I would be again targeting Rhys Healey as the striker I would want us to sign. Think he would score goals here and be 15-20 goals striker for us.

Can't disagree about your last point Butty. I feel it was a massive opportunity missed. They tried for a different manager according to different sources

Yes we should have signed a permanent striker this.

Gallagher and Brereton didn;t play in 9 role so maybe now Mowbray has to they might score 15 goals this season

It’s looking like Brereton might have to miss a couple of matches due to Chili too?? Can’t really afford to rely in two strikers /Dolan??( & youngsters)

Errr..... wouldn't his agent have told the Red Scum about the clause.

As I recall Venky's actually did quite well to screw a bit more money out of Man Ure after digging their heels in.

I recall a bid 6 months earlier for Jones by Ferguson , which for some reason didn’t happen, then a new contract and the clause added and then 6 months later a sale. You tell me the version of events and who benefited And why .

So poor Phil was just....."badly advised"?

There were forces at work far greater than Phil Jones personal aspirations as I’m sure you really know. IMO you can’t blame a player for wanting increased wages/greater cup/European  opportunities but in this case this wasn’t the controlling force in this transfer http://en.espn.co.uk/football/sport/story/95828.html

but... after risking life and limb for his "beloved" Rovers for less than two years, a)what did he do/say then?

    b) what did his actions (alongside his agent) cost his "beloved" Rovers in terms of transfer remuneration?

Do we really need to go over the off record agreements and Speculated back pocket benefits between Big Sam and Alec F again. IMO Jones wasn’t the issue here. This has been debated long and hard in old treads.

He’s been more like the next Jimmy Edwards than the next Duncan Edwards.

I recall a player who put his all into every challenge at the expense of injury and who played from back, brought ball forward. His main fault was putting himself into every challenge and risking injury (but he won most challenges/timed these well) but imo his work rate for Rovers/passion and contribution was never an issue. Oh how we have short memories / re write history as fans ( UTD signing doesn’t rewrite above)

Or preparing the fan base for the sale of one of our star players.

Other alternative is that it is a message to other clubs, agents and players to be more realistic.

I’d go with the latter I’d say he has a shopping list and is playing the dangerous waiting game. With possibly a few loan deals lined up if it doesn’t work out. But then I’m an optimist (after the last few windows I should have learnt my lesson)

My stance on any of this never changes.

I’ve said categorically that the managers decision to give Mulgrew a 2,5year deal was wrong imo. But whatever is done is done and we’re discussing the merits of saving £120k against not saving it on a background of fans losing their jobs etc. There’s absolutely no discussion to be had in reality. Leave your Venkys baggage to one side and tell me that we don’t need to try and save £120k in the current financial climate?

Every signing is taken on merit. E.g. Could I see their reasoning for signing BB? Yes. He’s young, English and highly rated. Has it worked out and therefore been a success, No. Can he still pull it around and be a success? Yes, but he needs to play.

My question is this: Mulgrew is on our books. Yes he had fallen out with the manager but:

should he atleast be featuring on the bench?

is he better than current players in our back 4?

if he does not leave this season has Tony taken lessons from Zidane and is he determined to carry on having Mulgrew perform a Gareth Bale role at the club ? Rovers the new Real Madrid

**Maybe Tony could roll him out as a new signing

Yeah, it bites a bit being so close but what is there to moan about here really? Another club came in for him that happens to be a league higher that can offer more money. I do think the Sharpe article didnt help matters - got everyone excited that we are spending money on a defender for the first time this generation.

I recall us nearly signing Roy Keane only for Utd to scupper the desk at the last minute. These things happen in football.
