  1. Even if we had the calibre of footballers to play out from the back, which we don't - no-one in the Championship does - to do it EVERY SINGLE TIME is just obstinate on JDT's behalf and absolute suicide. Whatever the sport, unless you are significantly physically and technically superior to your opponent, using the same tactic repeatedly with every single play is daft. Preston were ready for it and so will be every team we play until something changes. If this stupidity persists for one more game, then you have to question JDT's motives because promotion won't be among them.

  2. Agree with RoverTheHill. Barton's done nothing for two years on the pitch and plenty wrong off it. Football clubs need quality footballers to win games but they also need quality human beings otherwise things will descend rapidly towards the gates of the Championship. He is a divisive, cancerous character. Avoid.

  3. We could be Champions of Europe and West Ham could be battling relegation in the Conference ... and they'd still beat us at Upton Park.

Playing in Europe is starting to take its toll though ... suspect Hughes had an eye to the Basel game and with a few regulars out, we lacked the cutting edge.

Peter tried hard on the left but lacked the quality of an in-form Gamst .. which we don't have at the moment either.

  4. I watched an Aussie football show last night (Total Football) which had Neill and Cahill as guests. They're over here at the moment playing Paraguay on Saturday and Bahrain on Wednesday.

Neill was asked about his feelings after the world cup and he said he wasn't very happy to be coming back to Blackburn after the world cup. We've heard this before from him, and he's hardly the biggest ambassador for Blackburn.

He was also asked about his on/off transfer to Liverpool and he said that it was out of his hands on deadline day whether Rovers accepted the offer. He said it was a big complement that had been paid by Rovers rejecting the bid, but it was a bitr frustrating when he could have played for such an iconic club as Liverpool!

Regarding his future, he said that all he can do is knuckle down and put in performances at Rovers and for Australia and hope that opportunities like that come again.

Having read the story in LET from Friedel about Neill being pursuaded to stay if we go well in the UEFA cup, its a nice sentiment, but from what the man himself said last night, I'd be very surprised if it happened.

If I was Hughes I'd be looking now for a replacement. I'm sure he is!

Yeah ... he definitely wants out.

This from a press conference the day before the Aus-Paraguay match with Lucas having just been named Socceroos captain.

"I'm hopefully in just as good a position (as back in August) where as if I play regularly and play well, those kind of opportunities will present themselves again in January and if not in January, I'll be a free transfer in June.

"I'm confident that if I keep playing well, something similar to that (another transfer opportunity) will happen."

He is an ex-Rover still in a Rovers kit.

  5. 4 millions plus Pong!! We should snap their bloody hands off for that! :brfc:

I'd definitely favour Warnock over Pong who I think has gone to Nobenders anyway. Lucas wants out and you're better off to move those players on otherwise they can be like a cancer. If we can get J2-3m plus Warnock for a bloke who's given us good service but really has only hit the headlines on the back of a World Cup, and who is going to walk for nothing come May, LET'S BLOODY GRAB IT! Agree, Warnock will provide competition for Gray and we look much better with a lefty playing at left back, particularly if Gamst is not at his best.

  6. "I will make changes from the FA Cup game at Burton because I have to look at the City match on Saturday morning."

    He also said:

“Blackburn will play their strongest side tomorrow but we won’t,”

That same source predicts this unlikely match-up!

DOMINIC MATTEO v RUUD VAN NISTELROOY

With Andy Todd struggling with a knee injury Matteo is likely to take his place in central defence. The Liverpudlian has not been a first-team regular this season and must use his strength and intelligence to compensate for a lack of pace. Van Nistelrooy remains as deadly as ever in front of goal and Ferguson may highlight this area as one to target.

    Close football observers...

  7. According to Mourinho they scored six goals because they gave us our two goals, that man is deluded!

Everyone around me felt that Tugay was the best player and couldn't understand why he was substituted.

I agree about Mike Riley, sending Hughes to the stand was ridiculous. Anyway why wasn't Riley at the Riverside today? United would never have lost 4-1 if he had been playing.

Jose might just be a bigger git that Sir Alex! Get that man a bucket. He's going to win the premiership and probably the Cup but let's hope he doesn't win Europe.

Great game Rovers ... beaten but reputation enhanced.

  8. Shearer, Sutton, McKinley, Gallagher, Berg, Flowers, Hendry, Garner and co

over the years this fixture has been littered with misjustices against little old Blackburn Rovers, especially at the theatre of wet dreams and the rfw.

Today was payback for all the cheating, the whingeing, the lack of humility, the refusal to acknowledge another team that played better on the park, the declination of rfw refusing to praise opposition, the monotonous refusal of supporters to obey ground regulations, the permanent smug grin of scumchester supports and so on........

Rovers fully deserved the win, our supporters who were there and tose of us at work or listening on the radio, watching dodgy satellite or whatever, our team deserved it.

$$$$ the red scum, they lost.

Now then how long is this run against them going to last ? tinykit.gif  tongue.gif

Spot on 1864 ... I'll drink to that.

When was the last time we scored from a free kick?

And why wasn't there more added time at the end until they got awarded some shonky spot kick? laugh.gif

    Brilliant!

  9. I havn't read the entirety of this thread so I apologise if it has been mentioned before.

I also brace myself for a hammering.

A suggested solution could be a salary cap of some sort.  unsure.gif

I have no idea what you could set the salary cap at ... but just bear with me.

It could be staggered in this manner ...

Players raised in the "local area" do not count to the salary cap (so if we bring back Dunny his wages dont count). I accept that the definition of "local area" could have teething problems as to how far the local area extends. To hell with it. Lets say Lancashire/Yaaarkshire/etc. So any player raised in Lancashire doesn't count (irrespective of whether that player went through an academy of another Club).

Players who have played at a Club for more than say five years dont count. So if we bring back Barry Ferguson ... he plays here for six years, his wages count to the salary cap for the first five years (but dont count any year after that). Also, Brad's salary wont count given that he has been here for five years.

The combined wages of all other players at the Club must be less than X million pounds.

All contracts entered into from today's date must contain "salary cap" clauses. Therefore, if the club drops a league, the players wages are automatically docked to cater for the salary cap in the lower league.

The distribution of TV rights remains the same. That way the Club's get richer and sort out debt problems and the games will become closer as the impact of the salary cap winds in (it will take a few years).

Once everyone is on salary cap contracts and the debt is sorted, ticket prices can come down and the salary caps can be reviewed.

Definitely on the right track ...

People will pay the money for entertainment.

The biggest problem with the league at the moment is that Chelsea is killing the game!

Now we'd all be laughing our socks off if it was us so good luck to them but you can't have a league that runs for nine months that's decided in six weeks.

They've bought the best players available at any cost and then stuck the next best ones in the cupboard.

No-one can compete with them and everyone else is playing for second.

I know it's been raised here before but salary caps and equalisation programs are the best way to make a league vibrant and exciting.

Exactly how you run it in the context of English football is another issue with promotion/relegation and the bigger picture of the Champions League.

But when you have a competition where everyone thinks they're a chance of winning it, you can charge what you like!

    They will come.

  10. i have hated them since junior scool and even more now due to in laws soon to be exinlaws who are nobenders and where i live its full of the idiots believe me they are worse for thinking of themselves as the"biggest and best club in the world"  than burnley.

how woyuld i like them to lose lets see.....

I HOPE THEY ARE WINNING 1-0 WITH 20 NO 5 MINUTES TO GO AND FOR SOMETHING LIKE FOG TO CAUSE THE GAME TO ABANDONED AND FOR THEM TO FORK OUT MORE MONEY FOR THE NEXT GAME AND FOR THEM TO HAVE 5 "GOOD " GOALS DISSALLOWED AND THEN WEST HAM TO GET A LAST MINUTE PENALTY FOR A "dive"IN THE CENTRE CIRCLE.....

OR A 7-0 LOSS ...NICE ANYTHING BUT THEM SCUMBAGS WINNING.

    318066[/snapback]

    Very amusing, ABBEY.

All that's left to do now is sit back and watch them sweat it out against the Hammers.

  11. ABBEY

I'm sensing a genuine lack of love for the NobEnders.

    Where did this come from?

And how exactly would you like them to lose the play-off final?

    1. Celtic style conceding two in the last three minutes.

    2. 6-0 after letting in four in the first 15 minutes.

    3. 10-9 on penalties.

  12. Wigan up ... be kind of fun to have the Nob Enders there too wouldn't it?

Little Burnley would feel well and truly in the outer.

Or do you guys all want Preston to fall over?

I'd like to see one of the smaller clubs go up too ... more chance we'll have them covered next campaign.
