Not going to say we don't need these players but I really would like to know what we intend to do with our "fringe" players. We seem to be heading in the same direction as pre Souness, a big squad of not quite good enoughs on good money. I hope we have a contingency plan to trim the wage bill, it's starting to look a bit like the Brian Kidd era in terms of overall quality and squad size. Worries me a bit.

I agree with you.

We don't need defenders - we need GOOD defenders. We have enough of half decent central defenders. And the last couple of games our central defence have looked quite good, especially with Nissa as center half. I doubt that Mokoena and Nelsen are much better.

We can't just buy more players and hope that will solve our problems. We need bring in quality and to do that we need to get rid of one or two fringe players. And the most important thing. Get the crappy players that starts every game out and in with the quality players we already have.

If I recall I think 1 or 2 games ago NEJ was actually being highly praised...

There is an unwritten rule on this message board. You may criticize players when we've lost but if you for example say that Dickov is not Premier League quality after a win it's you that get's criticized.

Are you serious? Should we lower our demands just because we have crappy players? Should we be happy just because he's trying hard and say: - Oh, he missed again, but that's okey, at least little Paul is working hard.

This is not some school boy club. This is Premier League!! Strikers are there to win headers and score goals. Dickov is not doing that. He's simply not good enough. How hard is that to understand? I would be happy with him if we were in a lower division, but this is Premier League where 5'6'' players aren't players you build your team around.

I agree that he hasn't got the best finishing skills, but to make a point that he doesnt win alot of headers is just plain stupid IMO!

Yes he's been a bargain but how much a player has costed us should not matter when judging his performance. What if he was a 7M£ Italian that also would have scored a few penalties and a couple of more goals in 15 matches? Would you still be happy then? I think not. Dickov is our first choise striker at the moment and I, at least, have higher demands on our first choise striker. He still hasn't produced as much as he should have, or at least as much as I want. What's wrong with being unhappy with him and think he should have produced more?

Am I a muppet because Dickov only is 5'6'' and doesn't win headers? I just said that I wanted strikers that our wingers can play crosses to. But I'm stupid to believe that that is an effective way to play football... oh stupid me!

I think Dickov is doing a great job, much better then I ever thought he would do. And he has surprised me with some great skills as well.

But he still doesn't have what it takes to be a top Premier League striker. A striker that every team in the league so desperately needs. We should demand more from our first choise striker. He should at least win one of five headers. He should at least have scored one of the missed chanses he has had the last few games (except the penalties).

If there was a snap poll now for Player of the Season, only Emerton and Dickov would have a shout.

Those of us who prefer 'arte' would choose Emerton and those who prefer 'labore' would go for Dickov.

You should not mainly blame the defence today. Did you see the gap between the back four and our midfield today? HUGE! Where the hell were Tugay and Ferguson? Awful defending from those two. I hope I will not see Tugay anymore in the starting 11.

I think Johansson played very well today. He won almost every header and made some important interceptions. McEveley had a though game and hasn't Premier League qualty yet, but he's learning and will get better for every game.
