  1. Lucas Neil has a go at the Rovers fans for stating their opinion - isn't it all pot kettle black and children fighting in the playground type stuff? I think the thing that riled the supporters I heard from is the fact that he chooses to say these things in the press straight before a game against Rovers - if he isn't bothered and wants to move on why keep bringing it up? At the end of the day he isn't the first and won't be the last player to leave a club for a "better deal".

  2. I met Stuart Ripley in Blackburn once - he stopped to ask if I knew where any bookshops were - he had one of his sons with him and seemed to be in a bit of a rush.

Also met Tony Parkes at the train station who asked me if he was on the right platform for a train to Blackpool.

Jeff Kena wandered into the club shop when I was there buying something in 95.

  3. as for the april 30th game the owners of bcfc are saying he will not be elegible to play as they want £100k for police presence cos no doubt if savage does play there will be some fans itching to get onto the pitch and give him beating

I personally want him to play cos the atmosphere will be immense, I'm not worried that he could be the deciding factor in beating us come 30th april, i am worried that fans could run on the pitch and get the club into trouble, ie points and fine smile.gif

It is Birmingham's responsiblility to ensure the safety of the crowd for that game, simple as, just as it would be our responsibility if the game were at Ewood. If Birmingham fans cause trouble and end up costing their own team money or points then that shows how daft they are - what would it have achieved except to further dent the image of their club?

At the end of the day there probably isn't a club in the country who hasn't lost a player they didn't want to leave - it's happened plenty to us over the years - Shearer, Hendry, Duff etc etc. Players move on, it's a fact and contracts rarely mean anything these days. At least Birmingham are in a position not to HAVE to sell in order to survive - it's a lot worse for clubs in other leagues who do. Look at Crewe for example, they've survived on bringing players up through the ranks and establishing them and then had to sell them in order to survive. At the end of the day Savage was one player of many at Birmingham - be upset for a bit, fine but don't let it spoil the game in April.

  4. there is a report circulating that IF Savage plays at Birmingham Rovers will have to foot the estimated £100,000 police bill for the match policing. I have only seen the smaller reports stating he is actually out of the game. I have not seen this from a Rovers point of view.

big club ? my arse rolleyes.gif

Birmingham City as an entire club should be disgraced by their behaviour throughout the whole saga. The whole issue of potential trouble in the game at Birmingham if Savage plays or indeed can play can be contributed in part to the Board and management at Birmingham for stirring things up, through their very public feud. If they can't control their fans, why should Rovers pay for it???

  5. But we made a serious bid for teh player with every intention of getting him.

Rangers made a joke bid and are seeking to make our captain as unsettled as possible so as to force through a transfer to suit their straightened financial circumastances.

    Totally different.

Quite right Bryan. Our first bid for Savage was rejected as unacceptable by Birmingham and we made an improved bid. Rangers have had one bid rejected - have they made any moves to come back in with an improved offer yet? No - if they were really serious, or had the cash for that matter they would have made a better bid than the one they did make. All they've achieved now is to unsettle our player leaving everyone in a no win situation. Unless they come back with a better offer we may have to cut our losses in the summer, which is a crying shame given the money we spent on him.

  6. it will be interesting to see how blackburn adapt their tactics for savage so the game v bolton is a must see !!!

"If" Savage signs in time for the Bolton game and plays, I very much doubt that we would need to change our tactics to suit him given the (what was it?!) 6 bookings in the game against Portsmouth - he'll just fit straight in laugh.gif

As for being a "smaller" club - we are currently only 1 point behind Birmingham in the league (them lying in 14th), so I don't think Birmingham should be blowing any trumpets right now anyway.

  7. The silence from Ferguson himself is deafening and telling. If he wants to leave he might at least have courtesy to say so (unless he's money-grabbing for the "loyalty bonus") and if not he should put this sordid saga to an end now.

To a certain extent I agree with what Allan is saying here. Ferguson should have the courage to actually come out and say something himself, instead of hiding behind others. I'd have much more respect for him then. If he wants to go, let him go - there is absolutely no point in keeping a player who isn't committed or is "homesick". If he wants to stay then great, but I very much doubt that is the case given what's been said recently.

I have to wonder if the stories about homesickness when he first signed were true too and perhaps Souness gave him the captancy as a "sweetner" to stick around???

As for Bojan Djordjic, well, that's a stupid comment to make - most sensible people chose to play for a club based on the club, not the location! Besides, no-one has to live in Blackburn itself - there are plenty of lovely areas in the surrounding area to live in.

  8. If Duffy was playing I'd be confident.

Thanks for the compliment, though I very much doubt that my inclusion on the team sheet would make much difference  :D   Seriously though, having Duff back would be a huge boost for a big match.  I'd like to say that over the two legs we'll win (just been feeling very positive about this one since the draw was made) but given my track record for score predictions it is almost certainly safer for me to say a 1-1 draw at Celtic in the first leg and then ... we'll see.
