  1. It is a shame - but bearing in mind that those teams with smaller capacities have not filled their smaller stadiums on any occasion (Portsmouth exempted, more on that below), then why would their having a bigger stadium suggest they would get more support - just by having a bigger ground does that make our support worse in some way?!??

Although I would also question the validity of their research when Portsmouth's highest attendance this season actually exceeds their stated capacity??

  2. He played in 20 games this season - but accept that this possibly wasn't the reason. Possibly, more likely that they were future-proofing his contract. At the end of this season he would enter the third year of a four year deal, at which point he would be able to buy his way out of it under the new FIFA regulation.

  3. Granted the initial aim of all but half a dozen teams is to beat the drop, but I take it that you were not at Ewood last week then?

No i wasn't at ewood but not sure what difference that makes - i was at the madjeski stadium in December if that helps?

The point was, as Eddie says many teams seem to struggle in their second season (West Ham, Wigan just two examples)

  4. I don't see why Doyle would not want to come here over Reading. The possibility of European football, an established Premier Division side looking to push on into the top 6 on a regular basis - Reading have had a great season and all credit to them, but their target for next season will still be avoiding the drop.

  5. Nyargghghgh - when did May go to Burnley? It must have been whilst I was at Uni, I lost touch a bit with all things not directly related to rovers at that time - I was in deepest darkest devon after all

Given that, I consider myself well and truly corrected on this one.

EDIT: It was actually later than that (2003-4) - must just have forgotten it.

  6. Perhaps the fact tugay is likely to be subbed in a lot of games has been the reason he hasn't been given it. Looking for a bit of consistency in the captaincy rather than tugay having it for say 70 mins and then passing it on.

Unfortunately this hasn't panned out as hughes may have hoped due to the already well documented reasons

  7. Its clearly not a no-risk situation - but it is relatively low-risk. Whilst we could wait until the end of the season and possibly get him for nothing, at a low price surely the prudent thing to do would be to sign him in January. As stated we currently have 3 midfielders of a sufficient standard to play central midfield (i'm not going to include bentley at this point in time), one of whom is currently injured and one of whom has played far more games this season than we would want him to play. Whilst we are hoping to have reid back fairly soon, it is surely not beyond the realms of possibility that he could have a setback which would leave us back down to 2. A small investment in a bit of extra cover and quality could make the difference - as we have seen in previous seasons 1 result can make a massive difference to your league position and subsequent prize money.
