  1. Our (almost) complete selection was sold last summer

(dirk kuyt, salomon kalou, leonardo, sno, lazovic, ect ect)

Like they were all playing last season. Only kuijt remained in the starting line-up during the season. Kalou lost his credit, leonardo en lazovic were playing at ohter clubs and Sno is a guy from the Ajax-youth.

But at least you've got Charisteas now, nr.4 striker of your arch-rivals

  2. Thanks for that - standing up, now there's a novelty. Wonder how the stewards react to that!

at the Bergkamp testimonial, quite a few bobbies were telling us that we had to sit down, but they never succeeded. It's quite usual that fans (at least die-hards from the home crowd and the away fans) stand in Holland. So don't get too ######, save it for after

  3. Its one thing having the money but its still got to be spent wisely - just look at the likes of Newcastle who seem to spend millions but never get anywhere, I know they've got injury problems but some of the signings they've nade have been big mistakes.

British clubs seem to be getting better and better at playing in European comps - all should qualify through their groups in both UEFA and CL. I wouldn't go so far as saying we will dominate Europe again soon but we're getting close.

By the way SCF08, do you know how the seat numbers work in the stadium? our tickets just have the block (GG) and a number ie 0490. No row number. Are these actual seats or is it an unreserved area?

You don't have to sit on a particular seat. Just go in the stadium, find a seat and stand on top of it... (that's my experience in the away-stand)

Btw The earlier you go in the stadium, the bigger the chance you're standing on the first ring (and that's where you wanna stand) Usually, they fill up the first ring before letting people on to the second one...

    See you on Thursday

  4. The walkways are covered. "Protected by a two metre high fence with rolling barbed wire across the top"

Oh yeah, it's quite a fortress.

Two years ago the police wouldn't let AJAX fans watch the game in rotterdam because of vandalism in the trains. As a result, we stranded on 100 metres from the stadium. Whole the game we had to sit nearby the stadium listening to our radio's while the cockroaches (nickname of feyenoord-fans) were targeting us with stones; the two sides only separated by a fence.

Although we only saw the game on the telly afterwards, I vividly remember that day, being 2-1 down in stoppage time and 2-3 up at the end of the game... But on the other hand, that was (probably one of) the reason(s) that the cockroaches went insane, first throwing rocks at us and later challenging the ME (MP)...

Last year, they beat us both at home and away, but due to a new system, the play-offs, we've played them again, winning 3-0 and 2-4. After the 2-4, about 800 cochroaches were waiting at us at the bridge nearby the station where we had to take the train back to Amsterdam. To avoid riots, the police arrested all of them, so that we could have a safe journey home...(is part of a new law to prevent football-riots)

What I'm trying to say, I think, is that the police and the authorities are prepared for riots and that's why it's very likely that only minor incidents occur...

Still, I don't put on my AJAX shirt :rover:

  5. Just having a quick look through the entertainment section of tourism amsterdam style and found a place that Jordan may have to avoid

    HOMOMONUMENT !! :P

Don't avoid the jordaan (probably the best place in town to drink beers), just avoid the homomonument...

I'm gonna sit at the Leidseplein, nearby Centraal Station (tram 1,2 and 5 will take you directly to the station)... At Leidse there are plenty of pubs and coffeeshops.

We've applied for tickets a couple of days ago and, surprisingly, I got an e-mail on Sunday from Rovers confirming that we've got them.

Not being able to fly to Prague (to see AJAX play), the best alternative was without a doubt to see our favourite English squad play against our national arch-rivals :)

We're very happy that we can watch the game and I'm sure we're cheering just as hard as you guys.

For after the game, I recommend to go to Paradiso, Escape or the Sugar Factory... The problem with Amsterdam is that every pub has to close at 01.00am... Only nearby 'het Spui' (Spui square) the pubs are open till 03.00am. So after the game you can go to a club or to 'het Spui'.

Feeling quite confident that we're gonna win... 0-4 just like last time we've crushed them ;)

  6. Applied last week for two tickets. I've been recently visiting de kuip twice as we humiliated our national rivals feyenoord 0-4 and won the cup final against psv (2-1 last minute).

Being both Blackburn fans, we thought this was the perfect opportunity to attend a game of Blackburn in Europe. Our national favourits AJAX are playing in Prague at the same date, but we choose not to go there because we've been in Prague last year for the CL.

So there is absolutely no better alternative than to watch our favourite English squad against our national arch-rivals.

I hope we haven't applied too late

Got my fingers crossed for tickets

P.S. I've read somewhere in this topic that prices for beer were up to €8.5, but I've never paid in my whole life that kind of money for a pint (pint of lager is usually €4.5)
