They lost, they will know they can’t realistically make it. If Hull can beat Ipswich at weekend, they will need a win at Plymouth and Norwich will need a win at B’ham. A good night.

If Norwich beat Swansea at home at the weekend (which they probably will) then with their goal difference v Hull they are probably in even if they lose to B’ham on the final day no matter what Hull do

I think the result is actually more important for ensuring West Brom will be keen to get something at Sheff Wed this weekend as if they were to lose they could be going into the last day level on points with Hull

Now the Mcguire case has been heard, I will now share the chain of events confirmed by four different sources who were ALL in the building on Transfer deadline day.

I will also dispel some myths and bollocks which has spun around the net.

GB Spoke with Orlando over a period of a few weeks regarding his interest in Mcguire (DOF Identifies players, his role)

Orlando had cash bids from Sheff Wednesday and GB Indicated that the club would be willing to buy the player for £5-7 Million including add on, however this was not an offer and it would have to go through the correct channels at the club, as it was subject to due diligence, funds and negotiation by those who do the money side (GB Does not negotiate contracts or fees).

The deal being pulled mid flight is complete fabrication, Rovers had not progressed to a formal offer, hence he ended up in Sheffield and not Blackburn. HIs agent negotiated with Orlando to have him in England as there was firm interest from two clubs possibly a third.

Following due diligence, which included using overseas data analysis, the clubs wide scouting network, it was clear that Mcguire had just seven months ago been playing college football, (The equivalent of turning out at pleasington on a Sunday). He was at nearly 23 a late rookie breakout last season in the MLS, Which in all fairness is a not the highest standard.  GB Wanted the player, so the club negotiated a "Try before you buy" offer, instead of spunking millions at a relatively unknown quantity. Orlando was happy with this, so the player headed to Blackburn.

All formalities were done by between 8pm and 9pm and the paperwork uploaded. All Seniors were in the building SW, GB, MC and IS. The club opted to wait to announce the deal and ordered curry in to celebrate what they deemed a successful window.

A sweep was done around the office a number of times with all those involved to ensure everything had been dotted and crossed.

GB and IS Assured everyone this was the case, please note only the secretary can upload to the portal and press send. No one left the office and the deal was announced.

At around 11.04 one of the admin girls who I shall not name, told the CEO That it had not been sent. Of course at this point complete devastation for a very large team at Ewood who had put a lot of effort into transfer deadline day.

Only one person could send this, and everyone else had done their part, that person stated it had gone, to all the senior team and those who play a supporting role.

Th fault of this lies solely with the secretary.

The background noise of transfers being cancelled mid-flight just did not happen. Adam Wharton's deal was done Wednesday and had no baring on this fiasco.

The club were hoping time stamps of uploads would get leniency from the EFL, But deep down knew this lad been badly let down and it was never going to end well.

We have huge sticks and bombs to hit certain people, but truth be told this is one person, who has royally fooooooked it up for everyone.

Glen, sorry if this has been asked and already answered but how did the admin girl find out at 11.04pm that it had not been sent? In other words why was it her that found out and why not earlier?

  3. Sunderland getting a point might be a good thing as if Sunderland beat Preston then a point would not be enough for Millwall against us - so if we manage to beat Luton then both teams would be out for the win - that might just be the type of crazy game we could come out on top in. If Millwall only needed a point I could see them sitting in and us really struggling to break them down

  4. That was a long night without much sleep. It feels just as raw this morning as it did at the final whistle last night.

As others have said the stupidity of Brereton to get flagged offside from the free kick in the 94th minutes really sticks with you. If he doesn’t do something over these last 4 games he’s going to walk away with everyone glad to see the back of him which is a real pity after the last couple of years. I do think he genuinely cares (you can see it by how he celebrates the goals etc) but his head and heart just don’t seem to be fully in it anymore.

I hated seeing us sitting back inviting them on to us but I don’t think that was all JDT’s fault - Dolan just couldn’t get a hold of anything so we couldn’t get up the pitch.

That said I think JDT has lots of flaws. I was worried that Robins would change things at half time and that they would get on top of us with JDT not being able to see or counteract it and that’s exactly what happened - his in game management needs a lot of work. Also Adam Wharton showed again last night that he is clearly head and shoulders above Morton and so JDT has to take some blame for leaving him out in the cold for so long. I also don’t buy into the thought that he has worked miracles this season - we finished 8th last year after collapsing in the second half of the season and whilst we lost some players in the summer those who replaced them are arguably better or at least equal. So whilst I would like him to stay and see what next season brings after a hopefully decent summer of recruitment I am by no means convinced.

  5. Steve Waggot is the CEO of the business - to head off to watch the match when the business is trying to complete one of the most significant transactions in its recent history is a complete neglect of his responsibilities and a serious error of judgement for which he should ultimately resign. Whether transfers is his area or not he should have stayed and helped ensure the transaction was completed - get agreements signed, deal with the EFL on their relegation question, whatever. There can be no excuses for him.

In summary after reading the judgement in detail our appeal really had no merit. We messed up ourselves as a result of a series of mistakes and we only have ourselves to blame. Whilst the appeal was a fruitless exercise I am in some way glad it happened as we got full disclosure of the timeline and events via this decision that clearly shows the Club at fault. Up to now I had assumed we had been dealt with unreasonably in some way (for example the way the relegation question was being portrayed suggested that the EFL asked the question right before the 11pm deadline which caused a delay in submitting the paperwork whilst the club dealt with that) which clearly wasn’t the case.

The Club needs to front up here and show accountability to the fans

Question - is it a fact GB was at the match? I ask this as i read it on here from numerous posters.

I also ask as his claims of being at the medical, was this a.m or p.m?

If its a.m he has done a great job of making people think pm. If it was pm, he cant possibly have been at the match

He says he left the medical at 9.15pm in his interview with Rich Sharpe so he definitely wasn’t at the match. Also says they only got the green light on the deal around lunchtime and O’Brien trained with Forest in the morning so that would also suggest the medical couldn’t have been in the a.m.

  7. It would be interesting to know if other clubs that announced signings last night are also still waiting on EFL ratification but just went ahead and announced anyway as they assumed this was just a matter of course - could be the case that we are just being cautious and waiting until everything is signed off - if so I’m not overly bothered about that approach but would be good to know!!

  8. I’ve read a couple of reports that say Gallagher ”slipped” for the chance - I think that’s being kind to him as I didn’t think he slipped at all he just dived at it or more probably just fell over -  no composure when the goal was there for the taking

I remember when Gallagher was on loan here first there was a piece with him and Coyle on Soccer AM when Coyle was firing passes at him and Gallagher had to finish them first time - he blazed about half of them wide or over - Coyle actually started having to encourage him it was so bad - since that day I knew we shouldn’t sign him - tries hard but just doesn’t have the quality

  9. Thanks for all the info. The TransPennine times actually suit pretty well for our flights - just wondering tho should we expect to be kept back for a while after the final whistle - the return train leaves Preston at 17.48 which would generally be fine but if we are held back for a while I might need to look at another option

Definitely Northern Rail strikes, not sure if this affects transpennine which will get you from Manc Airport to Preston. They were running during the last strike, so I’d say you’d be fine.

if not the buses will be running although not ideal.

Train strikes will affect Blackburn to Preston route as that is northern rail only.

    Very useful, thanks a lot
