Rovers began the summer clear-out by releasing defenders Craig Short, Nils-Eric Johansson and John Fitzgerald.

Leeds, Sheffield United and Perth, W. Australia have shown interest in acquiring the services of Short.

Bury have offered John Fitzgerald a contract following successful loan spells at Gigg Lane.

The transfer of Micheal Gray to Leeds has fallen through.

Jonathan Stead could join Sunderland next week after the two clubs agreed a fee.

With the impending move out of Ewood Park by England U21 striker, Jon Stead, rumours are rife regarding his possible replacement / replacements.

Names currently being thrown around include Newcastle’s Craig Bellamy, Chelsea’s Mikael Forssell, Porto's Benni McCarthy, Ipswich’s Stefki Kugi Norwich’s Dean Ashton. Monaco striker Shabani Nonda and Nantes’s Mamadou Bagayoko

Matt Jansen has signed a new one-year contract, with the option of a further 12 months.

Midfielder Tugay has signed a 12-month contract extension to keep him at Ewood Park, after Rovers exercised their right to offer him another year.

19 year old striker Matt Derbyshire has been given a new two-year contract.

Rovers are to launch the new away kit next Monday 6th June, Rumours of a new sponsor yet unknown, vary from Orange to Pukka Pies.

Brett Emerton and Lucas Neill are to get an extra two weeks off before reporting back for pre-season. As they are involved with Australia in the FIFA Confederations Cup, which doesn't finish until June 29 - a week before Rovers start pre-season training.

Meanwhile Ryan Nelsen who is expected to pledge his future to Rovers in the summer, has been requested not to play in New Zealand friendly against Australia at Fulham's Craven Cottage on June 9, by Mark Hughes
