Motorway Closed For Pre-season Return

It must have upset the media when Rovers took the lime light, when they secured the services of Holland Under 21 star, Maceo Rigters. With headlines prepared in Glasgow that Celtic or Rangers or on Tyneside that Newcastle had secured the services of the Dutch hotshot, news editors had to quickly change their back pages, with gossip of players missing training.

A chemical fire yesterday morning on the Red Scar industrial estate in Ribbleton, closed the M55 and M6 motorway between junctions 31 at Samlesbury and junction 32 at the M55. As a result all surrounding local roads that lead to Blackburn, were in total grid lock, resulting in thousands being late for work, which could easily have including a number of Rovers players, returning for their first day of training after the summer break.

It’s amazing however, how some of the media never took into account that there were thousands held up in the motorway congestion when they thought that there was a bit of gossip to spread about Rovers players not returning for the first day of pre season training.

As a result of this gossip Rovers released the following statement on their official web site this afternoon.

Quote from the official Rovers Web Site. "Contrary to reports the club wishes to make it absolutely clear that Benni McCarthy was not absent from training yesterday and turned up as scheduled.

"McCarthy, like everyone else in the squad, was also present at training today."
