United Salvage Point.

Manchester United took another step towards the Premiership title, more by work rate than skill against Rovers on Saturday afternoon, at Ewood Park. Their never say die attitude has to be commended after being held by a disciplined Rovers for 70 minutes.

Watching the tv play back on Saturday night, it was evident that Sir Alex was getting more and more agitated as he kept pointing to his watch at every opportunity and if it hadn’t been for poor marking at set pieces, which allowed Trevez a free header for the goal, United would have come away from Ewood empty handed.

Ronaldo was marshalled out of the game by a resolute Rovers team and Rooney became more and more frustrated as the game progressed, with United’s threat on Friedel’s goal being restricted to set plays.

I couldn’t fault Rovers for their performance this afternoon. Overall it was a good excellent team performance, with both Santa Cruz and Brad Friedel being contenders for man of the match. Santa Cruz, who scored his 20th goal of the season, playing as an old fashioned inside right ran his socks off and has to be the bargain of the season, whilst Brad Friedel, unemployed for 70 minutes, made world class saves to keep the Rovers in the game and if it hadn’t been for the sloppy set piece defending would have had another clean slate.

Final Score 1 - 1.
