At a very wet and windy Ewood Park Chelsea added to Rovers woes with a comprehensive 2-0 victory.

With the rain teeming down Chelsea began the better and Paul Robinson having to make 3 saves in the first 30 minutes to keep Rovers in the match. At the other end Villanueva left shot was superbly turned away by Petr Chec. Rovers seemed to have weathered the Chelsea storm and seemed to be heading towards half time all level, however on 40 minutes the defence failed to close down Bosingwa and his shot cruelly deflected off Anelka and passed Robinson to give Chelsea the lead.

The second half began with Rovers dominating. The game defining moment for Rovers was on 55 minutes when Roberts muscled his way through only for his shot to be saved once again by Chec. Rovers continued to push forward but found it hard to break down Chelsea. Then on 60 minutes poor defending let in Anelka who slotted home his second and effectively sealed the victory for Chelsea. Anelka could have had a hat trick but was denied by the superb Robinson.

Rovers have now gone 6 games without winning and are pearched just above the relegation zone, next week's league game against Sunderland is the proviabal "six pointer".

After the match boss Paul Ince looked at the positives despite the defeat

"They played well in the first half but Robinson was in fine form and made four or five great saves.

"We took the game to them in the second half and we could have got something out of the game.

"It's disappointing that our performances haven't got us the points we deserved but there is no need to panic, we just need an element of luck to push us forward."
