Blackburn Rovers picked up only their second league win of the season thanks to four goals from Yakubu. The home side will feel that they were well worth the three points, although there were plenty of nervy moments for Rovers supporters.

Rovers took the lead on 20 minutes when Givet cut the ball back to Yakubu, who expertly guided the ball into the top corner. Blackburn continued to press, but Swansea hit back against the run of play when Lita's firm header went in off the post. The game evened out, but just before half-time Rovers retook the lead when Simon Vukcevic, who had come on only minutes earlier for the injured Rochina, volleyed a corner back across goal for Yakubu to head home.

Rovers doubled their lead in the 57th minute from another set-piece, with Samba knocking down Pedersen's corner and Yakubu providing the finish to complete his hat-trick. It looked for a while as if that had wrapped up the three points, but Swansea got themsleves back into the match when Robinson could only parry Routledge's shot into the path of Luke Moore.

If anything, it looked as if Swansea were going to grab the equaliser, but the away side were reduced to 10 men when Joe Allen was sent off for a second bookable offence and, shortly after, Simon was brought down in the box and Yakubu stepped up to seal the win and grab his fourth goal of the match.

The win lifts Rovers off the bottom of the table, but despite the result a considerable number of supporters stayed behind after the final whistle to call for the sacking of Steve Kean.
