Rovers Chief Executive John Williams has quickly denied rumour, linking Barry Ferguson with a return to Glasgow Rangers.

It had been reported by certain elements of the media, that Glasgow-born businessman Alistair Donald was set to finance Rangers by more than £10million, with Ferguson, top of Alex McLeish’s wanted list when the transfer window opens again in January.

Speaking to the media and to the Rovers official web site John Williams said:

“It’s news to us, we have had no approach from Rangers, regarding Barry nor would we welcome it.”

"Barry is our player and we are delighted that he is. We have no intention of selling him. This is the second year of his contract, he was badly injured for much of last season and I am sure that Mark Hughes would see him as a very important player in our squad."

Rovers have however confirmed that goal keeping coach, Roy Tunks has join the exodus of backroom staff who have moved to Newcastle.
