  1. Didn't know the Stuffies had even reformed Rosie, is the new album all new material? All we need now is for Ned's Atomic Dustbin to announce a comeback tour and I'm 17 all over again.

    :D

    Morph, no, don't think so.

Check out their website: http://www.thewonderstuff.com/ - they brought out a new dvd in May - not new stuff, more live and re-recorded.

  2. Morph, wouldn't know as I haven't got it - it's just that I've decided it's time I owned some - I've got enough on compilations like Unbelieveable, but I want a bit more.

The Wonder Stuff are touring again, certainly in December.

Nelsta, play it to the child, and the child will sleep - that way you can sing along as much as you like!  Gracie asks for the Strokes and Frank Sidebottom to be played these days, along with a healthy smattering of Bob the Builder and the Snowman!

  3. In the near future, I plan to be listening to the Inspiral Carpets' new greatest hits album and the Wonder Stuff's "Cursed with Insincerity", both of which I've asked for for Christmas.  So, if anyone has views on either which are worth listening to, I'd be happy to hear them.

I think Dragging Me Down and This is how it feels by the Carpets are 2 of the best songs ever (at the moment)!

  4. Anybody labelling them as a 'comedy act' or whatever is being unfair

Believe me, when I saw them at Glastonbury, I couldn't stop laughing!

Still whatever cooks your carrot, I mean some people laugh when they listen to the Tindersticks, whereas I cry :<img src=:'>

Okay, because I'm a bit out of date on this, I asked my 16 year old brother if he liked them and if not, what he thought of them.  He said they're all right, but they're trying to become a showmans band like Queen.  If that's true, no wonder you couldn't stop laughing.  If it's not, what were you on?!

  5. Which bad 60s bands do you think the Strokes are trying to sound like?  I'd never have put them in that category.

I wasn't really being critical of the Darkness (was I?), just asking a question because I can't understand the fascination of them - I really did think they sounded like Saxon or Iron Maiden when I heard them and I didn't understand why the dj playing them nearly had an orgasm!

  6. I imagine it's entirely possible that our esteemed Mr Williams has a hard side too.  He didn't get where he is today by purring at everyone!

That said, it doesn't mean Revidge shouldn't have posted what he thought, rather than what he thought the club might want to hear as that isn't what objective journalism is all about as far as I'm aware.  Not much point having a column if you're not allowed to express opinions in it.  The editor of such a newspaper should be able to take the flack for such articles upsetting people as well - that's why s/he's editor presumably.  Typical local newspaper politics as far as I can see.

  7. What doesn't he cover?  He has no level of talent so he just copies (almost exactly) other successful songs.  Crikey, I was accused of having a nobbie williams song on a cd on holiday and it was by World Party but he'd covered that an' all!  grrrr.  :unhappy:
  8. If you've not read Michael Moore's book yet, take it.  Other than that, Jeremy Paxman's book, "the English" is very entertaining.  Last year on holiday, I read both Chocky (John Wyndham) and How to be Good (Nick Hornby) in no time because they were compulsive and enjoyable reads.

Lucky you!  I love holiday reading.

  9. It does make me wonder.  I know a few weeks ago we were in the middle of a war, but radio 5 in the morning talked of nothing else.  It seemed, this morning, they could talk of nothing other than Phil Tuffnell on "I'm a Celebrity, Get me out of here!".

Similar logic in there somewhere?!

  10. Just bought on CD for the bargain-tastic price of £7.95 Ten Thousand Maniacs "In My Tribe" which I think is a brilliant album.  Also bought Frank Sidebottom's ABC&D which should be a lodda fun!
  11. I can't believe 'Scooter' haven't had a mention on here yet.

Lyrics ? Dark side of the moon ?  Sgt Peppers ?

What about "de chase, is bedder dan de catch"

or "Is id a bird, is id a plane, id muz be dave, whose on de train"

"de bird, de sea, de land, de tree,"

"How much is de fish ?"

    ........  marvellous.

That got me thinking about Half Man Half Biscuit.  I haven't heard these lyrics for a while, but I bet Colin's got it on vinyl:

"Time flies by when you're the driver of a train/speeding down the highway with a cargo of cocaine..." etc.

The new White Stripes album is cracking by the way.

  12. You're spot on about Todd and Greer though.

I can't decide exactly what Todd's natural level would be and cannot understand what Souness ever saw in him.

Thankfully, Souness doesn't make many mistakes.  Todd is most certainly one of them.

This echoes what Tim told me when he got home from the match.  Todd got sent off for a second bookable offence for doing something completely unnecessary and he thought Todd just looked like a thug and that we should get rid as quickly as possible.

    He thought Pelzer looked okay.

  13. Alchemist_gs, can I suggest that you read some of SMc_Celtic's posts or pete1888's posts and take a leaf out of their books?  The majority of banter on this board between Celtic and Rovers fans over the last couple of weeks has been good humoured, interesting and informative.  It wouldn't hurt if you contributed in the same vein instead of pasting the same antagonistic post into 3 separate threads.

You've only received a hostile reaction because of your initial posts.

Chill out - you won - you're in Europe.  Enjoy it and stop trying to wind people up... it's boring.

  14. Hi all

Apart from being disappointed with our performance last night, and the (lack of) noise made by Rovers fans in general, the biggest disappointment for me was actually the number of fans that started leaving some 20 minutes from the end.  Okay, I was in the Riverside, so what more could I expect?  I would be ashamed of myself if I was one of those people.  I know we were losing, but the hordes that walked out must have affected the players.  That said, I saw "fans" leaving the Blackburn End and the Jack Walker as well, so I guess there must have been a number of part-timers there as well, although I know the 2 guys sat next to me were season ticket holders.  I was pleased when they went because one of them just kept shouting "Sutton, you're a w*****" etc.   Mmmm, that was clever, and got you a long way, "mate"!

As for Celtic fans.  Well, we drove in from the M65 and parked on the Water's Edge Car Park just off Livesey Branch Road.  We drove past the Fernhurst about 6.40 and although it was lively, the police seemed to have things under control and people appeared to be enjoying themselves.  Walking to the ground we had no problems and after the game, I found walking back to the car I was mingling with a number of Celtic fans and there was no intimidation or aggression there.  Obviously the result had been right for them, so maybe that helped.  However, there were the odd ones staggering about in the road threatening to get run over more likely than anything, but I think there's little anyone can do to stop people who want to get that drunk doing just that.

I thought the Celtic fans made a fantastic noise, kept their singing up all the way through and looked like they had a thoroughly good time.  As I had to keep reminding my (sometimes hotheaded) 18 year old brother, if we'd been in the same position as them, we'd have been singing our heads off and taunting the opposition with songs like "it's so f****** easy" etc.  I would've laughed if I hadn't wanted to cry in disappointment at our overall team performance which I thought was poor, although I'm certain O'Neill putting Sutton on Tugay had a lot to do with it, and I also think Celtic are a good side.

I'm really sorry to hear about the 800 or so with genuine tickets who couldn't get into the game - that must have been absolutely gutting, but I can't see how the stewards/police could have managed this at the time if the forgeries were as good as some are saying they were.  I think suggestions of some type of swipe system are the way forward here.

Wrong result, but an experience I wouldn't have missed.  Now I'm forgetting about it because it's too painful to do anything else!  :(
