  1. I've read the first book and tried to get through the others, but for me they are just so tedious. The structure of POV chapters is jarring as the focus jumps back and forth from place to place, plot to plot, with little payback for the effort it takes to get through another chapter of someone walking, fighting, then camping for the night. I found myself skipping page after page.

But that same structure has worked excellently on TV. The episodic format with cliffhangers once a week has hooked millions into the story. The books hold a lot of depth for hardcore followers who have committed themselves. But for the majority, the story belongs on TV, and may well be one of the most successful shows ever.

  2. Ramen in a Lancashire pub? Well dodged thenodrog! And they are handing Michelin Stars out to ramen places now?? A restaurant in Korea might finally have a shot at getting one of the bloody things then!

This David Chang bloke may have 'reinvented' asian cuisine in the West, but there is nothing better than the real thing. The main reason I decided to move to Korea permanently was the food. Well, that, the wife and the money.

  3. It's ok TJ I was talking about Poirot. Hate that waffle munching moustache waxing knowitall

By the way, despite "gauging yourself" sounding like some kind of torture off Game of Thrones, I think you meant "gorge".

  4. Games forums are full of people saying they cried over that one. I didn't, but it takes more than a badly written romance to get me going.

When my wife made me watch My Girl this Christmas I laughed at the bit where Macauley Culkin got stung to death by bees. I looked over to confirm just how amusing it was - the way his glasses fell to the floor - and she was actually weeping!

I thought the dialogue in To The Moon read like it was written by a child but the story concept was pretty good. Sort of Vanilla Sky meets Eternal Sunshine.

The two doctors were a bit odd. But perhaps teaching EFL has made me impervious to awkwardly phrased Asian-English dialogue. I found the romance far fetched but really charming.

  5. If you don't mind a game that is primarily story driven with pretty limited gameplay (think The Walking Dead), may I recommend To The Moon.

It came out a few years ago, but I only just came across it on gog.com.

It is quite honestly the best story I've witnessed come out of a computer game. Moving, emotional, suprising, twisting.
    It really surprised me

I happened to see that a match was on the scoreboard about 2 days ago. It must have been Steelers vs. Seoul.

http://int.soccerway.com/ I'll keep an eye out for this next match, it looks like Saturday.

That link was to the botton half of the league. It splits into two now at the half way point of the season. here is the situation at the top.

We are 9 hours ahead here on the peninsula so kick off will be 5am Sunday in the UK.

  7. Korea vs. Croatia is on tv at the moment. Up front for Croatia is one Nikloa Kalinic. He looks to have lost none of his weakness and lack of balance. When you are getting outmuscled by a Korean fullback you know its time to hit the gym. He's also missed a sitter set up by Eduardo.

Mind you this new crop of Korean players coming through is not much to write home about (in which case I will stop writing home about them right now).

  8. Steak, gammon, burgers....sounds like brewers fare. I never eat in a place where I can cook the menu.

You'd be screwed over here in Korea - you HAVE to cook the menu. you cook most things yourself in restaurants here.
