1. The Bolton corruption programme

whats the conspiracy with souness and selling dunn to brum? i dont live in the uk so missed this bit of info obviosuly wasnt on all the websites!!

it b a shame if we get sone in over bung enquiries cos of GS, what a tosser.. i just read also that some one has reported rovers to PFA over the Hignett deal, apparently 75K was transfered to some agent in monaco!! however in the article it also says that thios agent was asked by BRFC to try to sell 4 players so course he'd have to b paid for his services no?

2. Selling Shearer.

ya i agree in 1 way, but it was not that bad as we got the biggest transfer fee for a player at the time so in that sense it was good business 15 mill, if he hadnt left then; all clubs would have kept coming in for him until eventualy he;d have left us anyway so the money we received was good business under those circumstances.

how often do u c good players go on strike or sulk these days so they can leave the club and end up going for much less than they could have cos the mnager is fed up with them etc?

3. Hello!

I just wanted peoples opinions on what/who they thought was rovers worst player transfer activity?

Players left who shouldnt have, players who left and got good, players who come in who are kak but meant to be good(ie amoruso, well thats GS!), good players who've left for hardly any money etc etc...

Ive got my opinion, but ill wait till later to see if anyone thinks the same as me..

thanks

4. Has anyone got a list of the top 10 goal scorers last season?

How many would he have to bag to get 5th going off last season?

5th place last season was 16 goals, i think its in Benni to get around 16 goals.. HOPEFULLY MORE!!

Thierry Henry Arsenal 27

Ruud van Nistelrooy Man Utd 21

Darren Bent Charlton 18

Robbie Keane Tottenham 16

Frank Lampard Chelsea 16

Wayne Rooney Man Utd 16

Marlon Harewood West Ham 14

Craig Bellamy Blackburn 13

Aiyegbeni Yakubu Middlesbrough 13

Henri Camara Wigan 12

Didier Drogba Chelsea 12

Collins John Fulham 11

Ahmed Mido Tottenham 11

James Beattie Everton 10

Hernan Crespo Chelsea 10

Also, I have a mate who supports Benfica (Portugal) and I asked him if Benni was ever top scorer in Portugal.. He just said to me 'dont worry, Benni will bang them in' lets hope for gods sake that benni and roberts tear up the premiership just like roberts and camara did last season!!!

5. 1864 - How did England do in last year's World Youth Championships?

Oh yeah, failed to qualify...

The problem with the system as it stands is that the top players fail to improve once they've left our youth system and gone to MLS. They do well there for a couple of years, but they do need to be pushed by taking the next step.

4 years ago, you could write an entire article on Yanks abroad with about 10 players, now I see articles for each country. Convey went to Reading and he has improved by leaps and bounds over the past year or 2. Donovan stayed in MLS and sucked.

I'd take England's failure over the US' this year, but I'd take the US' failure over England's 4 years ago, as we at least went down fighting, and I'd take Klinnsman over McClaren any day of the week.

So, tell me again about how MLS is full of older players. I noticed you conveniently ignored it when I called you on your ignorance.

While I'm on a roll, I'll push this back on topic: Waggy and Mr. 6 - How have all the wonderful younger players we got rid of after you pushed their being given playing time done for their new teams?

why on earth are we talking about american football in this perticular thread??? pls start your own thread to dicuss this stuff.. thanks

6. Hmmm...can you please not quote entire posts when you're referring to only a small part of it?  It just makes it hard to read for everyone else.

You can reply to more than one than one person in a single post as well you know...

Merci.

346822

sorry why?? who are u?? do u work here?? well sorry for annoying u!! what do i need to push then?? i push reply quote!! and to reply to many in 1 is very hard considering they are all dispersed!!

sorry i do not know the etiquette!!! pfff

7. basically!!! this is a game we have to b up for!! for the souness effect and for bellamy!!! now with it all going wrong for them at the mo and none of their first midfield available, and the fact that they play bramble in defence!! we really should b favourates!!!

if we loose this, or draw a lame game!! ill b soooo dissapointed!!

good luck boys

8. Have always loved this match, and it always seems to have added signifcance, usually with Rovers coming out on top. Winning the Prem, getting into Europe, Shearer's first return since his move to Newcastle - all were cracking occassions with Rovers taking home the spoils. All were settled by some pretty cracking goals as well - from Shearer Gally and Sutton. Added to which we've had a few exciting draws as well in recent years so expectations of a good game are definately high.

Interestingly both teams have grudges to settle, most of the Rovers team over Souness, who I suspect isn't going to get a good reception, whilst Souey & Shearer will want to get one back on a certain new signing of ours. It's a pity that Todd isn't able to play and that Neill won't get a chance to pay back Robert for a nasty wack a few years back to crank it up an extra few notches. Nevertheless I still think that it's going to be a pretty intense occasion.

Rovers should feel optimistic. Anyone who watched match of the day last weekend saw Newcastle put in one of the most shambolic defensive displays ever against Fulham, who must be wondering how they didn't win. Even Rovers and our lack of goals must be thinking this is the way to finish off our scoring problems.

Rovers have every chance of outfighting Newcastle especially with Emre and Parker absent, and Jenas no longer there. Hence a 4-4-2 and our combatative nature should be enough to  out fight the barcodes, the 4-5-1 would be an overkill in this situation, and wouldn't really take advantage of the rabbit-in-the headlights defending that Newcastle seem so fond of producing.

My team therefore would be:

Friedel - automatic

Neill - been performing very well

Matteo - Souness seems not to believe in wingers, and as Carr played right mid last week I don't see Matteo having too much trouble with regards to pace, unless Owen uses the channels. Added to which his utter lack of offensive capabilities will not be as important a factor in a 4-4-2 formation.

Nelsen - immense and instructed to mark Owen

Mokoena/Zurab - I'd be tempted to go for Moko, as he seems a bit more physical and better in the air, which will be needed against Shearer. With Nelsen to partner him maybe he'll be less impetuous and more disciplined. Zurab seemed to have a hard time against Davies.

Reid - combatative, can get stuck in and dominate the Newcs midfield, as well as being able to get forward and terrorise the barcodes defence.

Savage - ditto

Emerton - played well in the 2nd half, added to which Emerton is more defense minded than Bentley which could be all important in a 4 man midfield.

MGP - if he whips those crosses into the Newcastle box there'll be havoc.

Bellamy - point to prove and will pounce on any defensive lapses.

Jansen - whilst not a sphysically robust as he once was, all Jansen's goals last season seemed instinctive and opportunistic. The barcodes are more then likely to help jog Matty's predatory instincts and the lad is far more likely to snap up any mistakes and chances then Kuqi with his touch of a fairy elephant.

subs; Enks, Tugs, Zurab, Bentley, Kuqi.

The biggest worry for me is Owen but I reckon the best way to stop him is to deny him service. With our combatative approach hopefully this'll limit the service to Owen and dominate the midfield. Having said that I wouldn't be suprised if Hughes stuck with the 4-5-1 returning Tugay to the starting line up.

Souness' last game with the barcodes - quite possibly.

346671

ya, only thing robert is at portsmouth now

9. I'd stick Emerton in right midfield and have Savage and Bentley/Reid centre with MGP on left

346648

ya i guess if wanna use 5 mids, and 1 striker, get rid of moekena for bentley for sure!!! but moekana does a job that they wouldnt ( as in they more attacking) plus i want 2 strikers for once dammit!! if not then go back to 5 mids!!

10. I agree with putting Bentley on the right but if we do play a 4 I think we need Mokoena in there - he's the only player we have who can regularly break down opposition attacks and with Reid and Sav both prone to making forward runs I think his calming influence in the middle is essential.

Friedel

Neill

Nelsen

Zurab

Matteo

Bentley

Savage

Mokoena

MGP

Bellamy/Kuqi

Jansen

Enckelman

Gresko

Emerton

Tugay

Bellamy/Kuqi/JJ

346631

definately bentley on for emerton but id say bellamy and kuqi and jansen as a sub!!! playin bentley for emerton maybe will make emerton imrpove a little!!

11. Correct and today it was for gobbing off. mad.gif

However I have a smidgeon of sympathy for Sav today because his ire appeared to have been caused was Graham Polls ridiculous caution of Matteo for actually having the professional cynicism to actually stand perfectly still whilst Diouf charged into him! withstupid.gif

346245

he said on roversworld interview that he told the ref: 'see the bolton fans are even laughing at you' cos we had 2 players trying to take the ball off okacha but okacha had clearly put it out!!! with all the bolton fans laughing at the decision!!!

is that worthy of a yellow for savage!!! i mean i always see players telling the ref to f off!!

12. The Opta stats on Savage at half time were stunningly good- way ahead of any other player in number of successful tackles, passes completed etc etc.

When Bolton were getting on top during the first half, savage was the key difference in keeping it 0-0.

The whinge to poll was about the stupid booking he'd just given Matteo. At that point Poll was giving everything and anything in favour of Bolton.

346176

GREAT TO KNOW!!! ok he aint all that!! but im glad we got him... and remember he aint back to full fitness just yet!!!

not the best, but id say kinda consistant and my welsh boyo raves bout him even when i say that he is wrong!! so lets try to keep the faith yall! !

13. He hasnt impressed me in terms of a creative spark. He is a good defensive midfielder but him and Mokoena together virtually showed our ambitions.

His set-pieces are really disappointing and I cant see why he takes so many when MGP is on the pitch.

Still has a long way to go to justify his fee.

346145

my welsh mate bangs on about his free kiks and how good they are!!! so lets hope they get better!! another thing MGP crosses ive found aint been all that this season1! bit wayward!! did u c bentleys first pass!! was just a normal swinging cross but no mistakes from him and getter crossing!!!

14. great post as usual!! thanks loads!!

I got a real feeling that we will take this 1 and then as this fan said: sounesss out!! wow that b sooo good if loosing to us made this happen!!! hahaah serves him right for leavin like that ( even though loved him all the way up till the end of the season b4 he left us)

so just wanted to say!! I think we have a great chance with shearer not at his best and owen not on form!! then parker, emre and luque arnt even there!! and souness loves bramble!! hahahaha great news for us!!

also did yall c the newcastle game vs man u!!! boumsong was responsible for 2 goals and his defending on those 2 goals was sooooooooooo bad!!!!

LETS DO IT!!!

15. A pretty dissatisfying match in many ways but a point is a point, and against Bolton away from home that isn't a bad result.

The first half was woeful, and Rovers need to improve on that, another performance like that and against a better team we'd get punished. Fortunately Bolton were equally poor, though Campo should have scored late on in the first half from a corner (which would have really left us in trouble.)

Second half was more frustraiting then anything else, as Rovers hinted though never really got hold of the game as they promised to do. The substitutions were the catalyst, and I think Hughes erred in his team selection. I'm chuffed that matty is in the first team picture but playing him on his own up front against bolton was never likely to work. With Rovers hoofing it long all the time, the slim chance of him getting anything became nil.

This game was crying out for Kuqi or Dickov to start, to ruffle a few feathers and to be fair the former did when he came on. Sadly that's all he did, as a lack of technique/that but of extra quality that was just missing, meant the difference between sometimes threatening and downright dangerous. One time which typified this was when the ball was played towards the Bolton left back area, Kuqi outmusled the defender in getting the ball, and then promptly lost it when he had a clear run down the wing through lack of control. If Hughes can improve his technique and touch we have the bargain of the season on our hands, if not we've got another Ashely Ward.

IMO Dickov should have risen in the pecking order, after this. The chap has far better ball control then Kuqi, is equal in terms of harrying the opposition, although is going to win less headers. If Dickov was guarenteed not to spend so much time winging on his arse he'd be my number two guarenteed striker.

Tactically I also thought Hughes had erred in taking off Pederson instead of the anonymous Emerton. This did have a negative effect on the team in terms of set pieces (more on this later) but Emerton then began to show his quality, and impressed in the latter stages of the game. One of the big positives is that the indications are that Emerton might provide adequate cover on the left should Morten get injured.

Kish-thingy had a fairly quiet debute the jury's till out on this one IMO. His centre back partner Nelsen was awesome - we'll be lucky to keep hold of him, this chap is one of the top few centre backs in the country. On many a time he covered for one player or another, and I wonder to what extent this convered up for or overshaddowed Zurab's performance.  Either way Nelsen is a legend in the making.

Another gripe is Savage, another stupid booking - the daftest yet - and his free kicks and corners were shocking. Every single one went sailing over evveryone's heads. His passing in play wasn't exactly telling either, but it was the wasted set pieces which annoyed me most. If MGP's not on the pitch, Emerton should be dealing with them, I was very disappointed with our 'star' midfielder. The other two central midfielders had quiet games, although neither performance was poor.

Bentley drifted in and out of the game, which was understandable considering he hasn't seen much 1st team football recently. But when he was in the game he made a heck of a difference. Maybe he's the attacking midfielder we've been after to solve our problems, and though it's too early to say the first signs are very promising.

Overall a frustrating game, a dire first half with Rovers edging the second. Rovers cannot feel too agrieved about not winning though as despite having the edge never really took the game by the scruff of the neck and dominatea, as they hinted at and had opportunity to do.

346523

if u say the 2nd half was frustrating, i hope u mean cos we didnt score to win it!! cos 2nd half when we made subs, IMO we were awesome, MGP or not!!!

16. at the end of the day its a point and a clean sheet!!

#### game and maybe should of won it after the second half performance!!

2 new signings looked quality.

well pleased for jansen starting dragged the defenders all over the place but had no support at all!!

bring on the barcodes, 3 points and souness fired thumbs-up.gif  biggrin.gif  rover.gif

346375

maybe was u who said it!! bellamy hatrick wow wowowowow

17. Is Kuqi good enough? Certainly he's big enough but does he have enough quality?

hmmmmmm, good enough we shall see, does he have enough quality!! no ball skills at all!! his aggression is his quality!!1 but i also have aggression!!1 maybe with 2 strikers he do better!!

someone said it b4! imagine vs newcastle 3 -0 bellamy hatrick  and souness out!! wow id cream meee  pants

346349

18. Decent enough point, Rovers coming stronger in the second half after a poorish first half. Graham Poll had ten minutes before half time when he gave everything to Bolton and booked Matteo and Savage- why?

Encouraged by Zura and Bentley, Reid looked a notch below today. Kuqui just isn't a Prem player. Jansen's movement was back to the Jansen of old- shame nobody could get the ball to him.

Potential costly comedy moments from our two Australians- Bert falling over the ball dribbling out of defence and sending it backwards to a Bolton forward on the edge of the area and Neill chosing a drven volley (woefully executed) when a defender's lob would have found the empty net.

I'm happy with the point but could/should have been three.

346132

ya the lucas neil chance was better hance then reids shot!!! he just had to take his time and it would have been a goal!!! no one was near him dammit!!

philip savage was yellow carded for this: 2 plaayers on okotcha and okotcha knocked it out!! he gave them the throw in. The bolton fans started to laugh so savage said to him: look even they are laughing at u!!!

does this deserve a card?? he should have shut it, but i think when we hear players say fak off all day every day to refs this was harsh of the ref!!!

19. The second half certainly was much better than the first. Both Bentley and Kuqi were impressive. Bentley brought a new dimension into the game while Kuqi fought hard, winning headers. Reid has a powerful shot, wonderfully saved by Jussie. Neil and Zurab deserve a mention as well. So does Nelsen.

The worst Rovers player in my opinion today? As usual, Emerton.

346115

why is he soo crap??? and why cant we bring in someone else for him!! he doesnt care!! and i hate to see him in!! play bentley there or something!!! cos now maybe he plays sooo crap cos we always start him!! drop him and let him fight for his place!!! only way he'll improve!!!

20. Well...that's the worst I've ever seen us play, we're about as entertaining as a lettuce.  I imagine we don't pass much better than a vegetable either.  The horrible thing is...I imagine Hughes will be happy with that, nevermind that we're pathetic on the ball...we haven't conceded (yet).

Savage is a grade A prick as well.  Hopefully Bentley will come on in the second half for Mokoena and we'll go a bit more attacking.  Hah!  Sorry, what was I thinking?  That will never happen.

346105

EH?? SURLY THIS WAS INB THE 1ST HALF!! COS 2ND HALF WAS BEST I SEEN IN A BIT WITH BENTLEY ON

21. No need to shout, never mind talking nonsense with it.

Matteo is so rubbish he was an integral part of the 2nd best defence in the league 2nd half of last season....

In fact pray tell, what has he done wrong recently?

346032

to b honest. he has done v well this season soo far!!! i just realising!! just feel he is better in central defence and hate to see him on left!!! He can b a liability there on occassions. So far this season, been good!!! he cant take central off todd/nelson/zurab and i think we could give gresko another go maybe!!!

But ill admit, keep him in till he done something wrong!!!

22. I hope our line-up will look something like this.

             Friedel

Neill - Todd - Matteo - Gresko

              Savage

         Reid        Bentley

Bellamy               Pedersen
                Kuqi

Bellamy must be given a bit more free role then MGP, because you won't see him track back anyway. Reid have to put in a good defensive performance and cover the space Beallmy would be leaving on the right when bolton attack.

This is a solid formation IMO, and if we could get it to work I think we'll get some good results. We should try hitting bolton on the break, and hopefully Bellamy's pace will give us some clear cut chances.

When Bolton are on the attack we should be looking something like this. Kugi have the work-rate to do some defensive work, so we have to leave Bellamy up front threating the space behind the bolton defense:

             Friedel

Neill - Todd - Matteo - Gresko

Reid   Savage  Bentley Pedersen

                Kuqi

         Bellamy

345501

where is ryan nelson????? and todd still able to play??
