  1. No-one was slating Jimmy this summer.

In fairness he didn't bowl very well after The first test, it was Broad and in particularly Swann that did the damage after that. Graham Onions must have been watching the attack during this serious and wondering how he is not in the team after he bowled Durham to the county championship with 70 wickets at a 18 a piece.

  2. Broad is the stand-out for me. Prior too if he can get back into the side.

Cook honestly doesn't know what he's doing. He genuinely has no clue.

Broad for me does not have the right mentality or level of maturity to be a test match captain and I don't personally like having a bowler as captain. Prior has a lot of work to do to get back in the team.

Funnily enough the only player in the team that I would give the captaincy to is Pietersen but sadly for him there is far to much water under the bridge for the ECB to give him captaincy.

  3. We've really plumbed the depths with this tour. If Flower won't bin Cook as captain, the Flower has to go. Cook cannot carry on as captain, he doesn't know what he's doing.

The problem is that the team has showed this series that there are no other leaders in it to offer an alternative to Cook as captain. The only other option England have is go down the Mike Brearley route of selecting someone purely on the basis of being the captain, which with the way England are playing at the moment they cannot afford to do.

  4. Borthwick playing and batting at 8 he's a far better batsman than bowler, for Durham he bats at 3 above Stokes so England shove him at 8. His bowling is not up to much and I fear another Kerrigan scenario with him, hopeful Cook will handle him better.

Why are people surprised that Root's been dropped he's a top order batsman and since his 180 at Lords he averages just under 26 which is not good enough, Ballance deserves his chance after a very good first class season.

  5. Well said Ned, ignoring the fact one of the greatest all-rounders played for "your" county.

Stats don't tell the whole story. I played cricket to a reasonable level and I'm not easily impressed by professional cricketers. The test of a player for me is whether i would pay good money to watch them and I wouldn't pay to watch Kallis. I would however pay to watch Botham who always emptied the bars at cricket grounds whenever he came in to bat. We used to down tools at work to watch him on TV in his pomp because he was compulsive viewing. There haven't been many players in my lifetime of whom you could say the same.

Kallis test average 55 with bat compared to Botham's 33, so as batsmen Kallis was two leagues above Botham. With the ball Botham 28 to Kallis 32 so not really a lot in it, especially when you consider that Botham was a front line bowler whereas Kallis was a reluctant 5th bowler. And to quote a true England and cricketing great Harold Larwood Botham was 'over-rated and his bowling wouldn't burst a paper bag.' Hard to disagree with a the man who for me is second to only Sydney Barnes as England's greatest bowler of all time.

  6. Not much has been said about Kallis retiring, with Sobers as the greatest allroundersd to ever play the game. I am thankful he will not be there when Australia goes on tour.

Kallis for me is the greatest all-rounder of all time, his stats are absolutely phenomenal. He is one of the greatest test match players of all time and he is easily the best players of his era.

  7. I am absolutely delighted for Chris Rogers, my brother played cricket with him about 20 years ago now for North Devon and he is a smashing bloke. He is a cricketer I really admire played minor counties and went around the doldrums of county cricket playing for Northants, Leicestershire, Derby and then he got the Middlesex captaincy making lots of runs at all those counties, then Victoria wanted to get rid of him and he just hung on there and now luck at him. He has been a gritty and determined player all of his career at 36 he is now getting the reward that he deserves. The England players like Pietersen, Cook and Bell who have more natural talent than Rogers could learn a lot from him how he is always working on his and the pride he places on his wicket.

  8. I haven't seen anything that Gower has said that might be disrespectful to the Aussies or inflammatory. Botham suggested after the Brisbane capitulation that England might respond aggressively in Adelaide. That went well didn't it? Nothing that either have said that might be deemed undignified although I stand to be corrected.

Botham, before the series also predicted a 5-0 win for England and said some fairly disrespectful things about the Australian's.

As for Gower he has recently said that Australia is a country with no culture and that the people have an animal mentality.

  9. Cook gone already very irresponsible shot for the skipper to play. Quite why the umpire asked to look at the front foot in don't know, it seems almost compulsory now to check it.

England sticking with Root at 3, should be Bell batting there.

  10. What a spell of fast bowling from Johnson, one of the best that I have seen in a long time, the England batsmen are scared. And the next game is at The WACA the fastest bounciest wicket in test cricket and Johnson home ground, another humiliation beckons in the 3rd test unless England batsmen show some fight, instead of just caving in as soon as they face something sort. Johnson has re found the form that he showed back in 2009 when he blew South Africa away and its been brilliant to watch.

  11. England not select Onions now looks a poor decision because Anderson looks shattered, he's not swinging the ball, he's down on pace, he's going for runs and he's not taking wickets. I think he needs a rest at the WACA particularly with it being such a quick turn around, but who do you bring in Bresnan has hardly played in the last few months and Finn, Rankin and Tremlett are all bounce it in bowlers, they have no one to bring in to pitch the ball up and swing it like Anderson does when on top form.

  12. They play for the team they are qualified for and I do not hear them slagging South Africa off. I would prefer all the players who play for England to be British but I do not make the rules. Let's be honest this team represents Britain and calling it England is really a misnomer. I have no difficulty seeing foreign players following their profession by playing for Rovers so why should cricket be any different? See also German football team.

However I do have a problem with a Blackburn born person supporting Manchester United. Who you support is a question of birthright in my opinion. Following your profession is entirely another.

Just my opinion but not all of the Australian team were born there either.

Sorry but my quote function is not working. In reply to Somerset Rover in spite of the fact that he is a WUM troll.

Why am I 'a WUM troll' is it not valid point I raise about people born in another country playing for England when you are criticising someone else for supporting Australia despite being born in England, tell me what's the difference?

You talk about people following their profession well Trott and Pietersen could have easily made a career out of playing state and international cricket in South Africa and being overseas players in other countries. You also ask why is a foreign born person playing for Rovers any different to cricket, well it isn't if its at county level and they are playing as a kolpak or an overseas. But when it get's to international level and your are playing as England then that is different.

Finally the team does not represents Britain it represents England and Wales. The clue is in the name The England and Wales Cricket Board.

  13. I felt I knew you at one time but your comments in this thread really disappoint me. You support Australia strongly against the country of your birth and upbringing. I could never do that.

What is your view on people who are in the England squad this series like Pietersen, Trott, Prior, Ballance and Stokes. Do you find it difficult to support them when they are playing for England ?

Quite right. Disloyalty. I hate it. Might as well support Burnley too.

Are the players that I have mentioned above disloyal as well ?

  14. Playing the race card then? Classy.

No I wasn't playing the race card. I was pointing out that the conspiracy theorists would be out in force if he was brought into the club due to his Indian background and that fact that The Venkys are from India and they wouldn't give him a chance as they would see him as Venkys man. Whereas if he did not have Indian heritage then no-one would bat a eyelid because as I have said he has a far wider range of coaching experience than Bowyer.

And if he was not of Indian heritage the Rao's would not even have considered him.

    Point proven.

  15. In fairness to the bloke he appears to be a very good coach, with a far wider range of coaching experience than Bowyer has, I'm not saying I would appoint him as manager but he would be a good addition in some coaching or even scouting capacity. I think the problems most people have with him is that he has Indian heritage and the Venky's are Indian, if he did not come from an Indian background I highly doubt that anyone on here would bat an eyelid at him possibly coming into the club.
