One million loan and full wages.

for a full season, fair enough, but i think that alone proves rich's claim today is wide of the mark, or is perhaps being misconstrued. you don't pay 1 mill plus full wages for a lad you're gonna have for less than 6 months of the season if you don't care about promotion, the play-offs, or doing well full-stop

I really hope we don't think that just triggering the option in Dack's contract will suffice. Offer him something acceptable now before his head starts turning. He is starting to show why he is gold dust at this level again.

agree. i think it needs to be gregg's contract task #1 once the window closes.

A theory that seems very farfetched to me personally but we can all be free to choose which rumours to believe and not believe.

Nothing that Venkys have done has made sense from a promotion (to the Premier League) perspective over all of these years so I doubt that it was all on Mowbray with such a specific plan to get a new deal.

We should have sold Rothwell, just like Brereton but they don't seem interested in making us a club like Brentford and Brighton that uses clever reinvestment of funds generated to continuously stay competitive.

honestly think the venky's suffer a bit of sentimentality to some players, and it ends up f'ing us business wise. the fact we let so many players leave for nothing through stubbornly offering them a million contracts instead of just selling them is bizarre? and look at the brereton situation! as a fan, i get it, but as people running a football club? it's just not sensible business.

  4. looking like louie annesley will be leaving this window before his contract's up. what a weird signing he's been? i know it's only gibraltar, but when you consider his age, the load of international games he's played, and just how long he's been here (five seasons now!) it's quite odd there's never once been anything whatsoever about him coming through into the first team, or even heading out on loan to develop? seems odd we'd bother keeping him for so long if we think so little of him? i saw him play for the u21s a few times, and he always seemed decent enough, no worse than many others on the pitch. odd!

Suspect it's largely down to what we always did under Mowbray. A target gets mentioned, and then returned to a year or two later.

Maybe I'm mistaken in saying none of our senior signings in Broughton's and Tomasson's first transfer window were linked with us under Mowbray:

    • Hyam
    • Brittain
    • Szmodics
    • Morton
    • Mola
    • Hirst

I'd say we can largely forget about any names mentioned during Mowbray's tenure, including Dembele and Maja. Broughton and Tomasson will have other ideas.

pretty sure most of the first transfer window signings were based on players identified by john park and his team for mowbray if he'd stayed last summer. broughton and tomasson then cherry-picked from those they felt may fit their ideas. brittain and hyam minimum fall into that category, but i wouldn't be surprised if they all did considering we didn't have a recruitment head at the time. broughton was big on talking about park's contribution to that window as the latter left, which makes me think he was being gracious for allowing them to start on the front foot, despite coming in mid-window.

So for the reported fee you'd rather have the more  experienced lad from Coventry over the 2 Dutch lads?

    putting words in my mouth.

i think we'll get two in. if one is hyam, then i think we'll keep pursuing van hecke til we're forced to default to an alternative option. can very much understand why hyam would replace van den berg in the wanted list.

You said he has limitations on the ball, have you seen him play? I’ll be honest I haven’t. However someone sent an excellent link a few pages and it showed that he is in the top 5% of players in this league for progressive passes.

based on what I have read he is not really a Lenihan style player. So with him Ayala, Wharton, Carter and Phillips we would have enough CBs. He is also comfortable in a back 3 another advantage.

based on this, he is the exact type of signing Broughton was brought-in (sorry) to make. his interviews on podcasts etc. talk about this. this is the real brentford model they mean: find gems in the stats, moneyball it. it doesn't necessarily mean they have to come from europe just because that's where brentford found most of theirs.

Van hecke doesn't want another loan, hence why he still hasent signed the new extension from Brighton

This bid for hyam is a quite interesting, wonder who leaked it in the first place?

Your move Brighton.. your move indeed

two permanent defenders on the cards? 🤔 found it interesting that sharpe said hyam may knock a move for svdb on the head, not jpvh. any potential subtext there seems to suggest we'd prefer two permanent additions at the back, and good on us if we can pull off two permanents deals.

Anel: 23: Malmö: Bosnian international: highly regarded✖️

Ben Davies: 27: Liverpool: well regarded at Champ level.  Good enough to earn a prem move.✖️

JPVH: 22: Brighton: Dutch under 21: previous player of year.✖️

Dominic Hyam: 26: Coventry: played for Aldershot before joining Coventry in League 2.  ✔️✔️✔️

    bit biased?

an equivalent for hyam would be two promotions with coventry and 88 championship games in two seasons under his belt. he's more experienced than vdb in both championship games played and age. you might not be into the deal, but don't use cheap tricks to disguise the truth.

Zeefuilk (sp?) looked brilliant on YouTube but turned out to be a huge disappointment

to be fair to Zeefuik, he was either played out of position or injured for the majority of his time here, so it isn't hugely surprising he didn't particularly set the world alight during his spell. it's a shame, it seemed like he had the potential to be a top player for us before his arrival.

Thought Vale struggled to get involved today , a few nice touches but not much else I think there is more there than what was shown today , Hedges same can’t say he contributed much but with 15 mins to go i thought Gally and Diaz were struggling we needed fresh legs that when I would have brought on Dack and Markanday , felt we were hanging on towards then end , Dack has the ability to lift the crowd even if JDT doesn’t think he’s fit enough or fits into his style of play he cannot deny his impact on the team and fans

wasn't it hedges who nodded the ball down to travis??

  12. as someone who hasn't renewed this year (cost), i find it absolutely staggering i haven't had an email, a letter, a phone call, a text, anything, to ask why that is! nothing about what they can do to change that or to even just try to convince me to pick one up! baffling!
