  1. Until Venkys go we will not improve.

They cannot find a good replacement for Gazza -which one of the fools is going to look?

It was only going to be a Relegation fight this season.

We needed to sell Rhodes, get out of FFP and re-balance the team.

The Fulham midfield of Cairney,Ohara and Tunnicliffe might have been ours.

    Must win vs Charlton.

  2. There are worse teams on paper than us but they aren't saddled with this shambles of a club which just crawls along like a rudderless ship. Unless the club gets sorted I think we'll go down because there is no one who can stop it happening.

And that is why we have to brace ourselves for more trauma as we struggle this season again. Same thing happened in the late 60s until we were in Division 3 and needed Ken Furphy and then Gordon Lee. The power game was different then - and we had some 'hope' and always a team of triers. The difference this time is we have owners with'loadsamoney' -unfortunately they have absolutely no idea and the slowest decision making/communication system of any Business owners known to man. The rest of the 'Management' is 'not fit for purpose' and needs cleansing -but that comes after the Owners deciding(if they can) what to do with the Club. They cannot decide what to do on Rhodesy so do not hold your breath.

  3. After a few days away from Internet access I have just caught up with all the features on Ronnie Clayton's funeral and all the tributes. The one thing that struck me was the celebration of our heroes is part of what makes us a great Football club and Institution. The Rovers really matter in an age of quick obsolescence and rapid change.

I am sure the new family of Venky's soon to be involved in the club have caught the mood and the general vibes.

The Club of Southworth,Crompton,Healless,Clayton,Douglas,Fazackerley,Garner and Hendry is the sum of all the memories and it survives everyone and everything.

  4. Two quick replies to recent comments:

-my Grandma and Grandad were in the crowd of 62000 in 1929 versus Bolton - 'we could not get our hands down to eat our sandwiches' was my Grandma's comment

-no mention of Bryan Douglas and his England chances can miss out the words 'Johnny' and 'Haynes'. The London press always thought that Haynes was better than 'Dougie' but on his day(and there were many) the guy was like Messi and absolutely unstoppable. He also scored with his hand once in the Darwen End and he and Fergie(Mike Ferguson) played a trick on Fred Else in a League Cup match at a pen for rovers when Fred was in the Barrow goal(I think)

Not enough has been said about the effect of this untimely death on dear old Dougie....the two guys have been inseperable for 60 years, and probably have met up together 3 times a week sinsce they retired(now 40 years ago).We now have to preserve Dougie as well. I think the idea of the new gates is a brilliant idea....but a big facsimile of Ronnies diving header versus Liverpool on one big Ewood wall is more fitting than naming a stand after him.I also think that Big Colin Hendry should be brought into things more at Ewood, as another legend of the good and not so good times. Not enough is made of the Full Members Cup win on the long-suffering supporters of the 70s and 80s.Maybe a picture of a Dougie weaving run and the Big Yin's block at Everton away in 95 should also be enlarged on a big banner ...like at Man City.

  5. When we debate Rovers legends on this Board the late Ronnie Clayton will never be disputed as one of the Club's all time greats in its 135 years history. Ronnie and the other 'twin pillar' Dougie were a fixture for over 20 years from 1950 to the late 60s. Their retirement was part of the start of the 'dark' period from 1967 to 1989...and only ended by 'Uncle jack' and the Full Members Cup Final.

Only watching on TV today from far away I will be thinking of his wife Val,his best mate Dougie and the thing he would have wanted above all other things today...a Rovers Win. Gone too soon.

  6. For me Benni and Roberts should both be out of the door. When Benni plays everyone moans anyway....clearly we have had his best few years and he costs too much. Cannot believe we missed James Beattie last Christmas....how many has he scored this year? Much more a BFS player.

The team needs incremental improvement...only 20% this year unfortunately, followed by 10% in January 2010 then another 20% in the summer.

We have to be patient - it would just be useful to know what kind of beast this BFS Bolton Mk 2 is going to turn into.

Our hopes rest on Dunny staying fit, keeping Samba, Kalinic coming thru, and NZonzi and Robbo continuing to improve(plus Givet finding a slot). That's the half of the team in place...then the 50% improvement over 2 windows.
