  1. I wasn't at the game today either (due to working out of the area), but having seen the youtube clip of the minutes applause I can honestly say that the fans of both clubs were a credit. A minutes silence was held before the girls CofE games this morning.

Today, is what Blackburn Rovers is all about and given what's happened to the club over the last few years, it's clear that some people will never get it.

I have written an article / tribute to Emma for Women's Football website Shekicks.net and I'm hoping that this will be posted in the next couple of days..

Have you a link to this - I can't find it on youtube

  2. Hi everyone

I'm Steve, mid 40s, my first Rovers games were in the mid 1970s - 2 matches over a bank holiday weekend. Both home wins - 4-1 vs York City and 1-0 vs Carlise United, although my memory isn't the best.

I remember all the old 3rd/2nd division days with fondness - fighting off promotion every season...Garner was God! Brotherston Sadly missed...

I fondly (!) remember 2 seasons in a row losing 3-0 at Shrewsbury, or how about two trips to Portsmouth (Two draws), or two Batterings at Charlton (The Valley and Selhust Park).

Obviously I've lived through the Promotion season, the first season up, ruffling a few feathers (David Seamen clapping the Blackburn End after we had beaten Arsenal 1-0) and of course the Championship Season. What a pity we couldn't build on it.

I live in Northampton now - I get to as many games as I can - home or away.

Well, that's me - PM me all you want, I love to talk about all things Rovers!

  3. Hi all

I have a small collection of Rovers programmes from the early - mid 1980s.

There are roughly 20 of them. Not mint condition - writing on some.

Anyone who want them can have them free - just pay the postage - I'm in Northampton.

If you can collect come and get them! I'd hate to bin them.

    Let me know asap

    Steve

  4. If things carry on like this I think Mr Hughes deserves freedom of the city. When you think of the doom and gloom everybody felt whe he was appointed, and the transformation now, it is amazing! I actually said to my Mrs today.... "That's it, one-nil. We don't concede goals anymore, we'll win this!" Sure enough another clean sheet.

A proven goalscorer is needed for next season, not that we should get rid of anyone in the squad. Kevin Philips anyone? Think about it...

  5. Don't forget everybody that although the situation seems bad we have just played three of the probable top six. We almost beat United. We should have had a point from Southampton. We battered West Brom. We could easily have had 5 more points. We have as much pace (if not more now that 'statue' Yorke has gone) as we had last season.

We seem to be able to play well when it matters - when we were in peril last season for example. I thought we were doomed and I had almost given up hope when we were behind at half time against Fulham.

Our team is not as bad as we seem to think. We needed a change in manager and we got lucky in the timing of it (we even got a few quid compensation - any one know if it was enough to sign a player?)

Sure, Hughesy is unproven at this level. But so are every single one of the other candidates, who either got the sack, are new to the premiership, or are eternally on the manager merry go round. At least we have a fresh face to work with our under performing team.

  6. USABlue.  Woudl you porefer a situation in which the fans had no voice ? Would you prefer a situation like Tottenham where David Pleat was appointed?  Or a Southampton limbo situatiuon where they have no manager?  Our board has acted swiftly and competently.  They have appointed a manager that they knew posessed great managerial potential from his time playing here.  Hughes was also the players favourite choice for next manager, in addition to being the boards first choice, and certainly a top 3 favourite amongst the fans.

We could have been like every other club that replaces a club mid-season and gone with the usual suspects that may have seen us safe for this season (if we were extremely lucky) but would have had us struggling the next season forcing us to repeat the same managerial merry-go-round then.  Reid, Hoddle, Houllier, Gregory,  just think how much worse it could have been!

I doubt that the fans had anything to do with this appointment but if they did it was certainly not a detriment to the process.

    Here, here!

We now should all get behind him.

  7. What we need is some stability and good leadership, which Hughesy seems to have in abundance. If I was a player I would definitely look up to him because of his achievements as a player and because of the string of fine managers (Souey included - he did Ok for 3 years it was just time for a change) he has served under. He must have picked a few 'tricks of the trade' from Fergie et all!!

Most importantly though, whether we all agree on the appointment or not, we all gotta help to get out of trouble. If Hughesy CAN get us up the league to a reasonable position it will be job done and we will have something to build on again.

    C'mon Rovers on saturday!!!!!

  8. I can't believe some of the negative crap being posted on here. No matter who is going to be the next manager, it would not please everyone. Now it seems done and dusted let's ALL....let me say again...ALL get behind the new manager for the good of the club we all (apparently) love.

  9. Well you lot, all I can say is if we DO have Hughes as the new manager, EVERYONE and I mean EVERYONE should.....no MUST, get right behind him and the team immediately. We need solidarity from fans right through the club to get us out of this pathetic mess that has been left.
