Sadly Drummer Boy it seems we might be around the same age.
Agree with all the above, but you missed out
Rattus Norvegicus
No More Heroes
Black And White
The Raven
etc etc
Stranglers ruled!
Even as I was putting the adverts in, I thought to myself "there's something missing here" - and you hit the nail on the head - Rattus Norvegicus just (and only just) edges out Black and White. Is there a better starting lyric to an album than that of Rattus?
My only (feeble) excuse is that I was offering less widely recognised classics and I think the Stranglers, along with the Pistols (who made the best rock'n'roll album of all time IMO), were pretty widely recognised as having produced a couple of albums of permanent class.
Just like Rovers - form is temporary, class is permanent.
Apart from all that, we are the age our dads probably were when we were buying this stuff - could you imagine them comparing recent releases by new bands?? Are we sadly trying to cling on to what we once were or should we sink into middle age music or stand proud and keep our minds open? I know which I prefer!

I've got room for one more - any suggestions?
Try the new Clash compilation. Quality.
As for JJ72 liked the first album but never got round to buying the follow up. Now the bassist has left
Thanks, Simon; however, to my lasting and permanent regret, I got the best of the Clash on vinyl (that's long-playing gramophones to you whippersnappers) usually within a week of it coming out - was never totally sure of the Clash myself though the occasional one was a peach.
If you're into that kind of stuff, try any of the following five as they are unsung but absolute classics of that period:
Siouxsie & The Banshees - The Scream
The Damned - Machine Gun Etiquette
Stiff Little Fingers - Inflammable Material
Adverts - Crossing the Red Sea With The Adverts
Penetration - Moving Targets
As for me, two opposing views on the second JJ72 - will wait for a third, and deciding opinion.

Try any of the Idlewild albums. Or JJ72.
~~!
JJ72 are fantastic.
Got the first JJ72 cd - pretty damned good it is too. Is the second as good?
Haven't heard Idlewild - any reference points to help me decide?
I like this thread - could save me a few quid in crap cd's.

Currently in the CD player are:
Primal Scream - Evil Heat
Bowie - Heathen
Ian Dury - 10 more turnips from the tip
Iggy Pop - Lust for life
Coldplay - A rush of blood
Dexy's - searching for the young soul rebels
I've got room for one more - any suggestions?
