  1. Because people find it hard to warm to him because he's "lazy". So they make up absolute ###### to support their case. Which gets picked up and reported and we end up having to deny it.

Meanwhile the perennially stupid think "there's no smoke without fire" or in their lingo "the lazy barsteward wants to leave" which will become a self-fulfilling prophecy because they start to get on his back at every opportunity.

Remember that next time you think about posting comments on Pedersen

  2. He might make it and he might not, what I would say about him is, that he's like a little terrior, prepared to run and battle away all night. He gets in where the boots fly and is prepared to give and take. If I was to compare him to anyone I would say Dickov with a bit more skill. If he is going to progress he needs to build up his body strength as he gets easily knocked off the ball by a big centre half. However to his credit, he quickly gets back on his feet without any amature dramatics and gets stuck in.

Not that bad an assessment

  3. Come on Tris, be fair.

We all know the truth, Benni has a hard act to follow.

Most fans would prefer a work horse like Dickov, than a player, who can actually control a ball, without falling on his backside. ;)

If Benni learnt some sort of goal celibration, like a belly flop, then maybe his 20 goals last season would be concidered worthwhile. :tu:

  4. Here was an interview Matty did for the LEP.I hope we see his name on the scoresheet many times this year

    ARTICLE

You can tell this is a local paper article as it doesnt mention that Matt turned down Burnley.

    To quote Matt.

"I was 17 and the manager, John Hughes, would say, 'There are a few people coming to watch you today'. I got a bit nervous because I didn't honestly know what to think. I wanted to say, 'What do you mean? Coming to watch me?'"

Just his luck. The first to make their move were the one club in the football galaxy that no Blackburn lad could possibly consider: Burnley.

He shakes his head at that one. "Obviously I could never sign for Burnley because I am a Blackburn fan - it just doesn't make sense."

Full article Published: 14 April 2007 The Independent

  5. Interesting, as soccernet had an article that appeared to quote hughes saying up to a month, that could be old news, I'm sure....

Worrisome though, seeing as the injury is in the same surgically repaired hammy. That's not a good thing.

Check the Soccernet Rovers correspondents comments re Nelsen. ;)

One certain change should be the return of Chris Samba in place of the injured Ryan Nelsen, whose hamstring injury isn’t a bad as first thought and could be back in time for the return leg against Larissa
  6. Having not been a fan when Jack was alive, i feel a little like i missed out on a large part of is what is Rovers now. In a way i feel like a kid who hears about there great uncle Jack, never haveing met him but loving all the storys and great thing people say about him. Thats how i feel, not haveing been around when he was there but feeling like i knew him. Thank you Jack, for bringing Rovers as far as you did and bringing joy to Rovers fans all over the world.

Theres only one Jack Walker!! RIP

What a brilliant tribute to Jack, there RoverFan

A lot of the younger generation will join in the chanting of "There is only one Jack Walker", however I dont think that the vast majority of them will appreciate to the full extent what Jack's contribution to the club was. Yes they will see the a modern stadium, know that the club won the Premiership and that the cream of british and european internationals graced the Ewood turf.

Prior to Jack 's full involvement with the club, Rovers were a team going nowhere and with no prospect of being anything but a yoyo club between the old second and third division. Any player developed was sold just to keep the club alive, in the days when the staff had to buy their own tea.

It makes me laugh now when I see some of the posts in the transfer topic on who Rovers should buy, when I think back to the days when the club couldnt even afford to pay the wages of existing staff on the payroll. Oh and how we were in raptures at the thought of signing a player from Grimsby or Bury.

When you complain these days about how the media knock the club, think yourself lucky that they even mention Rovers, as there was a time that the only source of news was the LET, heck the nationals had a hey day of ridicule when Rovers made a bid for Lineker. Everyone thought we were taking the p.

But it wasnt just Jacks money that brought the club success, he may have brought in top management ie Kenny, but Jacks drive and enthusiasm helped to gel the team and carry it through to success. I once had a long afternoons conversation with one of the championship team, who said that a lot of the success was down to Jack, they were at the time all part of a family and wanted to do it for him. He never said anything after a poor result, they only had to see his face after a defeat to realise they had let him down.

If the club is sold, however comes in will have a hard act to follow, but I very much doubt that they will have the club in their heart as much as the greatest Rovers supporter. Mr Jack Walker.

  7. Alan, I find your news article on "two faced Pearce" embarrassing. Sure, in some quarters the media have gone OTT in finding fault with Bentley but that does not excuse myopia and an embarrassing lack of objectivity amongst Rovers fans.

Firstly let me first thank you for reading the news item.

The editorial is aimed at giving readers a different perspective on Bentley’s withdrawal from the U21 squad. In the main the media have labelled Bentley as the arch enemy. My aim was and will be to give visitors to this site a different angle to that portrayed in the media at large.

In this instance it was to show, that whilst Pearce was so ready to throw Bentley to the media wolves he had not less than 12 months ago, stated publicly the dangers of player burn out. A matter that I had already highlighted in my previous editorial. Danger of Burn Out

Alan, I bet you could dig out a quote from Mark Hughes criticising or complaining about a club not releasing a Welsh player quickly enough for whatever reason. Are you going to start calling him two-faced - or do you admit that your article is wholly biased?

Yes I will freely admit there will be bias in my editorials, when all said I am a Rovers supporter, the editorials are my own opinions, and I will unlike other media sources attempt when ever possible, to portray the club, it’s players and fans in a good light. If members of the site disagree then the editorials will be left open for discussion in a link to the message-board.

  8. There is so much pressure placed on managers and players by the media and fan alike. There is a fear factor that it has resulted in the game becoming a self preservation society.

In terms of International teams, players are no longer selected by the manager, but by a poll orchestrated by the media, which allows the manager to provide a scapegoat when things go bad.

Having failed at Nottingham Forest as a caretaker manager and in recent times as manager of Manchester City, Pearce is now hanging on by a thread to his England U21 managers post. With Bentley's with drawal, Pearce now has that prime get out clause, should the U21's fail in the European Championship, where he can site the fact that his squad was weakened by Bentleys with drawal.
