  1. I like the way the fixtures are falling apart from the way we will playing a load of relegation candidates in 4 of the last 5 games with- great if we are down there scrapping as we will have control over our own fate but no use otherwise.

Could be relatively easy points if we're up there, though! Not that there's any such thing as an easy game, I know... and didn't the Championship teams that came up last season do well. Obviously, barring Sunderland's record-breaking performance :)

    Edit:

I feel bad now. Mocking Sunderland is like kicking an injured puppy. Too easy and pointless, they know they're rubbish. So let's never mention this again, unless Rovers are playing them...

  2. Football's to do with opinions mate. People like Mourinho would agree with me.

But didn't Zambrotta make it clear he didn't want to go to England at all? There aren't that many quality LB's mind you, so you can't be too picky if one becomes available. I thought AC was anonymous at the world cup, TBH. I suppose I've seen a fair bit of pettiness and bad sportsmanship out of him on the field, and I feel that that's not on.

It's the same reason I hate Bergkamp. Great player, but ever since he stamped on that player in an international game and got away with it (no later punishment, and no punishment at the time. Also, I can't remember which match in which comp at the moment) I've had an abiding dislike of the player. Same reason that my respect and admiration for Henry is at an all time low.

:) Nothing personal (except to me!)

  3. Guys he may have a fiery temper and be a poor sportsman but he's easily in Zambrotta's class who I too rate highly. Cole was our best player at the WC, which isn't saying much but if you ask anyone in the game he's probably the best LB there is.

My friend, you are wearing your white-with-red-cross-tinted glasses. He was rubbish, but oddly enough, he didn't show enough passion (as opposed to exploding). And not throwing stones, but none of your players could be described in that fashion ("best player"). It was a dismal performance. Just hope things get better.

AC is not in Zambrotta's class. Not yet.

  4. I don't think Cole is in the class of someone like Zambrotta, but he is no doubt one of the best in England.

His performances in Euro 2004 were top draw. However, you're right about his temper - remember the Spain friendly with the monkey chants and Spain taking the ###### with their passing footy? Cole really lost his rag, along with a few others.

This world cup he was unimpressive and barely got the ball in the attacking third.

The CL final sticks out in my mind. The game had been friendly enough, Marquez (I think) and Cole go for a ball, they end up falling over each other, Cole gets up, Marquez smiles and offers his hand, and Cole snatched his hand away, said something and went to run off. Marquez was rather teed off, and the game slipped from there.

If Del Horno leaves, Mourinho is sure to bring someone in. Chelsea wanted Vincent Kompany but the guy wasn't going to hang around waiting for them to bid so signed for Hamburg.

Speaking of hamburg, they've made some impressive acquisitions over the summer and look to be in a position to seriously shake up the Bundesliga. Which is nice. Kompany had some great sayings on signing for Hamburg. (about Lyon) "I felt that they were saying ' We are Lyon, you must come and play for us, on our terms'". About Chelski it was something along the lines of "I want to play regularly and there's no chance of that". A very promising young player. I'd dig up the link, but I really don't feel up to it. Sorry!

On the man himself, Does he look 'ill' to some people at the moment? He doesn't look well at all IMO.

That would be the Russian Mafia holding guns to the head of everyone he loves. A whole new meaning to "don't get fired".

  5. According to Teamtalk chelski have all but tied up the ashley cole deal (90k pw) and look set to land Roberto Carlos aswell. Now to me Ashley Cole has to be their number 1 left back but I can't see Robby C settling for the stamford bridge subs bench.

Ashley Cole is one of the more overrated English players (I'm Irish, maybe not entirely neutral, but relatively so).

He's bad-tempered, which leads to terrible tackles, falls over at the slightest provocation, and is one of the poorest sportsmen I've seen in the Premiership and CL. I hope Chelski buy him! He's kind of like Rio Ferdinand. Bags of ability but a serious attitude problem.

I thought it was rather sweet. After all, Uncle Jack got us the Premiership for all our birthdays one year.

And he will live in my memory for that. God bless him, and Rovers. I've no doubt he's still hanging around Ewood somewhere on matchdays :)

  6. I'll be delighted if the ugliest sponsor logo I've ever seen falls off my jersey after two washes. Otherwise I'll be there for weeks trying to get it off. An iron works, you say?

I mean seriously, did they not have something less offensive that could have been used, or at least moved the logo down 3 or 4 inches...

  7. Jaysus, why would you compare the two players (to bring the thread back on track)? Rooney's best position is as an foward playing between midfield and attack. Torres is a striker. They're both technically brilliant, although Torres is faster (lord the lad can run!) and Rooney's passing is better. They both have rockets for shots and the real difference between them is that Rooney has some great players playing with him at club level, and Torres doesn't have as many. I'd love to see Torres as the striker with Rooney playing behind him actually.

Looking at world cup performances, I was disappointed with both and both times it was because of managers and systems. Spain started a 4-3-3 formation against France, which gave them no width and Raul, Villa and Torres were ineffective (3 strikers! WTF) as were the spanish midfield. It was madness, and Spain will be back. England, for the whole tournament, played 4-5-1 with poor Rooney as the 1, and he hated every minute. A fish out of water (and why not, he was playing out of position). I hope McClaren shows more sense than Eriksson did there.

Put them under a _GOOD_ manager like Sparky, and they'd both be amazing :D

(Incidentally, I like Torres as well because he told AC Club De Milano that he would not leave unless Atletico Madrid told him to!)

Both those players have yet to show their best, though (I hope). Experience will make them better. Also, Eto'o for Barca, what a player :)
