  1. I don't read that much which is a shame, but the best book i ever read is 'My Autobiography' by Charles Chaplin. A real insight into how someone from a very poor background can be changed by money. It's very interesting to see how confused he was at the money he was making at such a young age and you get a sense that he didn't know what to do with it. Also his battle with U.S. authorities is engaging and very honest. I'am a huge Chaplin fan but I think non fans can find something in this book.

'Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance' by Robert Pirsig is a life changing book. If you are interested in philosophy give it a go. If you are not interested in philosophy give it a go.

  2. I went to see Che the other night. It was really good. The mix of colour with black and white works really well. I did fall asleep for about 10 minutes of it, but that had to with me being tired from a long day at work, rather than the movie! I would highly recommend this movie. I will probably go and see Slum Dog Millionaire and Defiance this weekend.

Saw this at the weekend and throught it was very good. An honest depiction of the revolution which showed the good aspects but also the bad. It was inetersting to see how so many people joined the cause when they only entered the country with 82 revolutionaries.

Del Toro was born to play Che and does a great job. Glad its subtitled aswell.

Defo go and see even if your politics don't support the cuase it depicts.

  3. I too went, best live band I've seen and there's been quite a few!

    :rover:

Top Five live bands I have seen are :-

1 - At The Drive In - 1st and I think only UK tour.

    2 - Slayer - At Ozzfest 1998.

    3 - Kings of Leon - M.E.N last week.

4 - Beastie Boys - M.E.N. in the round can't remember the year.

5 - Naplam Death - at the Witchwood in Ashton under Lyne.

would be interesting to hear other peoples top five.

  4. Anyone else see the Kings of Leon this week in Manc? I went it was pretty awesome. Can't get over the fact that these guys are 26 years old and have such an amazing array of songs already. Only down side was no Red Morning Light and Mollys Chambers was too slow. However tunes like Fans and On Call were possibley some of the best tracks I have ever heard played live by any band.

Think these guys will just get better and better for years to come.

  5. Never has the 'There's only One Jack Walker ' chant been more significant in the game.

Its my fave chant and I would ask everyone when Man City, Chelsea, Villa, Man Utd, Newcastle and Liverpool turn up to our ground, its given a real blast directed at the away fans.

They can only imagine what it is like for the club to be owned by a man like Jack.

  6. No - I'm not mental, just realistic - if we had gone down again it would have been the end of Rovers as a Premiership force. JW spent enough time with the board and Trustees convincing them to keep their squad together for the second season in the first division and they would not have put up with another relegation without selling to an inferior financial operation or pulling the plug. You should realise just how lucky you are - or perhaps you were not there in the dark days of the third division.

The third division was and is a very light place and enjoyable.

  7. He wasn't backed with sufficient funds, and that is why he left. He'd taken us as far as he could under the current board.

No mate, the manager and the players had the opportunity to secure European football on the last day against an as good as relegated Brum. They failed to produce and that had nothing to do with the board.

Hughes took the club as far as he could take it, not as far as our club can go. Semi finals can turn into finals, just look at Portsmouth.

  8. Granted, I've never been to Ewood, but based on the reactions I've heard come across the TV in the past...

He'll get nothing if he heads to Chelsea, maybe a nice applause, with a few boos tossed in, but rather muted.

If he goes to City, he'll get booed loudly and have some unsavory songs sung at him...

If he stays at Rovers, he'll get booed as well, likely, booing will continue if he gets off to a ba start, it will be forgotten quickly if we start like a house on fire.

Something along the lines of 'You Sold Your Arse To Chickboy...Arse to A Chickboy'

  9. Good on Ya Darth.

Also just to point out (not that folk on here need it pointing out) Walkers money bought more than good players it dragged our club into a comfortable position with a fantastic stadium and top end training ground. I read David Battys autobiograpy and he said train sessions were 'dog sh*t for goal posts' before the facilities got sorted.

  10. Can someone confirm with me that i have just watched the highlights of todays game and MOTD2 did not even show our goal in the post match analysis. I can't beleive that they missed it out. Great interplay between Roberts and Cruz and certainly worth a comment as it was the turning point of the game.

What is goign on. Instead we were treated to looking at Pompey's reserve keeper pulling off some greats saves and making a lot of goofs. Oh and the half chances Defoe had.

Its not even the big four that you have to play to be completly over looked. You just have to be Blackburn.

  11. I think a lot of the comments here overstate our importance - how or why would MOTD or the media in general be biased against us? I think generally we get the credit we deserve.

I could agree that teams like WHU and Spurs get a bigger focus, but the national TV and newspapers are based in London and their reporting teams seem to get distracted by what's going on locally to them. As for mainly featuring the "Big 4" on MOTD, like it or not they play the best football consistently and more people want to watch them than us.

On Garth Crooks' team of the week, why does anyone care whether he picks our players? It's pretty clear from his selections, and his every TV appearance, that he's an arrogant and often clueless plonker.

The amount of coverage or our importance isn't the point mate, its the clear one sided views on issues during games involving the top four and particular players. Its not just Rovers I see other teams suffer the same crap week in week out. MOst of my mates support teams like Bolton and Everton they see exactley the same.

The best way is to switch the tripe off.

  12. Are they having a laugh with that response?

I wonder how many fans they send that one out to who write in about exactley the same issues. At no point do they address any issues in your complaint. Football journalism is apparently based on opinions is what I picked up on. Not the facts then. In the post match chat they didn't even take a 2nd look at our goal or the foul on Bents whcih could have seen Rooney sent off.

I have given up on MOTD I avoid it at all costs. I actually only watched it Sat because I wanted to see how one sided the coverage was. I just settle for the goals on sky sports news on a sunday.

  13. Spot on USA.

We cant carry you Benny, shape up or Hughes WILL ship you out.

Wow some pretty strong views on the Mac here...I still really rate the guy but understand why people get angry with his apparent lack of effort. Many have said this is due to the kind of player he is.

Just a note tho I remember reading an interview with Henry where he said that as a striker you have to watch the game and sometimes let it pass you by to understand how each defender plays, holds himself and how they read the game. Then with this information you can take full advantage of any attack. I think this maybe true with Benni.

He is a very relaxed player and very nautral on the ball which also gives the impression of laziness.

With regards to Hughes' explanation about Benni not being at the Sunderland game, I think if Benni was any kind of moaning spoilt player he would have come out and made his feelings known. To my knowledge nothing came out of the Benni camp which suggest he was in agreement with Hughes' comments.

Lets see how he gets on I for one think he is a fantastic professional and we are lucky to have in our team.

  14. What a brilliant replay Alan75, I'll try my best to follow suit.

Alot of people outside our club don't really know the full impact of what Jack did they always say we bought the prem in 95. Anyone who wins the top league knows you can not buy the title at all and it really annoys me when folk say that about us. Yes the money is a huge factor but if that was the case why haven't Newcastle won the league by now.

This attitude seems to be the only response people give about our club. But lets face it we would never have been the club we are today if Jack had not got involved like Alan said we would be scrapping around in the lower leagues and slogging it out with Bury or Stockport on a weekley basis. Instead we have a great stadium great training complex and a secure future. People outside the club do not see that and to me it is the most important thing.

Anyway hope we have a great day on Sunday and Jack is remembered by all at the ground including Arsenal fans coz we were so lucky to have someone own our club who loved our club.

  15. There is alot of sense being talked about this subject on this thread, and some of it is very easy to understand.

Which makes it all the more strange that the FA and the management of england can't get it right. Some massive errors are being made like the Walcott thing in 06. Johnson playing on the right on his debut (Svens work), players out of form being given another chance when more hungry players are screaming for a go in the England squad. The selection of McCalren as a manager with only experience at Boro (as a first team manager). Then there is all the rubbish that goes along with the FA.

Seems the whole set up lacks real direction and drive.

Someone mention Scholes coming back, that would be a great move. But would he wan to get involed?

  16. Only watched the 2nd half, I know its bad to say but i was happy to see Spain score. Lost any feeling for the england team along time ago, the last team I relly got behind was the 00 Euro.

There is no excitement in their play at all, its so boring. Last night was pretty depressing, a stadium with 15,000 fans missing, and a team who couldn't even string a pass together at times. The players England have are good players, some exceptional (Rooney, Terry and Gerrard) so why can't they play like a decent team. Spain are a decent outfit and the game would be tough, a 2-3 loss with some great football would have been acceptable but the team had no life in it.

Maclaren is a good COACH but not a winner in anyway and you really need both qualities.

When I here him talk i just laugh how can he ever motivate someone.

  17. Local people taking on the Romanov empire?

    You're not wrong FifeRover

I doubt we'll see some billionaire from wherever trying to buy us. We are simply too small and not glamourous enough to interest them. Man Citeh, the Barcodes and maybe Arsenal are next.

Not sure if its a good thing, but we may get left behind in a few years time by all these teams being bought up. Even more so than we are now, hope we can continue punching above our weight.

However makes me feel proud that when we were bought it was by a guy who really loved the club. All those fans of other teams who said we bought the Prem title are having the same thing done to them, buying success by huge investment. Its a shame its come to this.

  18. Found

on YouTube, from the warmup before the Newcastle game.

that was top, a mate of mine is a city fan said it was worth going the other week just to see him playing. we all know its a shame he won't be around long, i reckon the fans should get together and do something special for him when he leaves. Maybe an illegal firework display in the blackburn end, or maybe something less crazy.

  19. Not sure if everyone is aware but the fella who bangs the drum has a son (at least i hope it was his son), who i have seen at away games. (spurs a few seasons ago not the one when we won and got europe or the time that steward was outed as a rover). He seemed to be teaching him the finer points of smacking the hell out of a drum. He will take over when the drummer man is to old to pick up his stick, it doesn't look good for the people who hate the drum, i for one am not to bothered either way, however i can't help think that a nice brass section would go along nicely with the drummer.

  20. Well, as you may have guessed, I wasn't talking rubbish like that. But the point that the drummers seem to know one "tune" ("Gerrinto'em") is going to be a problem. If a few people could meet up with them for a few drinks and a Rovers singalong, surely we'd drop that one and go with some good ones, like the random stuff that popped up on the Dunn thread. As I'm in Ireland, I assumed that locals could manage it. I mean, going for a few drinks and a singalong is hardly punishment!

On another point, PLEASE go easy on the capitals! It's very hard on the eyes, and after working with computers for a while it's the equivalent of someone shouting in your ear :)

    OR BANGING A MASSIVE DRUM!!!!!!!!!!!
