  1. I think it's a good move. Ferguson has the potential to be a good captain, and hopefully he won't get injured again next season and lead the team to great things. Flitcroft didn't do a bad job, but as mentioned just wasn't vocal enough at times. The defence seriously needed some organizing, and often it was just left to fall apart. I think Ferguson as captain will bring more strength to the team.

  2. Compared to the other teams we definately don't have the fight in us to stay up. Relegation looks like a clear reality and we might very well go down. But I think we'll just manage to survive, scrape it by a point or two.

  3. Not beeing able to hang on to Duff was our biggest mistake. I don't know how much we could have done to make him stay, but he was definately a massive difference. Apart from his obvious skills, he filled the team with confidence and belief, we just played another level of football with him. Now that he's gone, the players haven't been able to adjust to the loss of such an important player, and the new arrivals haven't had the best of seasons.

Not saying that Duff was the only good player we had, but with him we had the right combination, and now we simply don't.

  4. I've been supporting Souness through all the rough times, he's achieved alot at the club, but I'm tempted to say that today's result was the final straw. I do not believe it's his fault that Rovers are in this nightmare, and I can't think of a suitable replacement but we're at the point where we can't get any worse and might have to take our chances with a new manager.

  5. I've stood by Souey all the time, and I still do, but what frustrates me is his comments after the bad results. Every time he blames "lady luck" or the officials, or "it just wasn't our day", etc. Even when he finally criticizes the team he's still too lenient. We are in a relegation battle, it's time to get tough on the players. (though he probably does in the dressing room, it's not enough)

But I wouldn't sack Souness, not untill the end of the season. And then his job would depend on which division we'll be playing in next season. But I'm still very confident we'll stay up.

  6. No, Souness will turn things around, I'm confident in him. Last season we had a few bad spells where we again looked like a relegation side but we ended up in Europe. And when we get Babbel and Short back we'll be much more stable in defence. I know our current results are far, far from anywhere near acceptable but we'll be ok.

  7. I wish I could report that it was the Rovers' performance that had depressed me tonight.  Well it did. but I need to say what I saw tonight both inside and outside the ground.  I travel from Manchester and park at Darwen Vale.  I brought my child with me, who's Irish and a Celtic fan.  On the way to the ground we were repeatedly pushed and abused by drunk Celtic fans.  In McDonalds we were sworn at by some drunk who had to restrained by fellow Celtic fans who were sharing a bottle of Cider with their food.  Inside the ground, at hlf time I was abused and spat at by the Celtic fans and to cap off a great night, as we walked back to our car we had to run the gauntlet of hundreds of aggressive Celtic fans.  It wasmy worst experience at EP since the 70s.  I have no respect at all for Celtic, their sectarian heritage and hooligan fans.

    I think the following points need making;

    1.  The police should have banned drinking on the streets

    2.  Celtic fans should not have been allowed to travel, excpet on official coaches

    3.  There should ahve been a corridor of empty seats at the corner of the Darwen End

There was bound to be a lot of trouble with the huge amount of Celtic fans coming down............sorry for you and your kid though.  :(

  8. Completly and utterly humiliated both on and off the pitch -Part 1.

.............Tune in on Sunday for Part 2.

    Bloody devastated.

Chin up lad. The league is where it counts. We didnt even expect Europe this season, anything else is a bonus. Don't get me wrong I'm hurting like hell too but there's nowt we can do about it.

Bring on Everton, lets right the ship.

We go from Celtic in the UEFA cup to Everton in the Premiership.   :unhappy:

Yes, the league is where it counts, but I can't believe how many people are just listing the UEFA cup as a secondary competiton. It's Europe, the grand stage for all teams. Sure, now we can concentrate on the Premiership but if we continue to miss chances as we have all season long I think we'll have a bit of trouble finishing in the top 6. But if we get some luck infront of goal we can challange for something more. I just wanted a better run in Europe, cause who knows when we'll get to play there again ??

  9. Celtic are crap. They will lose every single game if they play in the premiership, and I hope they get hammered next round.

We let down England. We lost the Battle of Britain. I just feel so sorry for Souness, to lose against Celtic.  :(

Johansson must never play for this team again. I don't care if he was unlucky, this is the UEFA cup, you can't just slip like a idiot.

York and Cole were also crap today, Thompson and Duff were good, Friedel was suprisingly bad, and Dunn never even touched the ball.

But we overall didn't have a bad game, created lots of chances, missed every single one. The players need to learn to hit the target, because we've scored only 1 (pathetic) goal in our last 4 games.

  10. 25,000?!

    Ignorant, condescending git.

It'll be a pleasure knocking you sods out.

Well he isn't that far off, but it's the quality of the fans that matters, not the quantity. We can make an atmosphere just as good as Celtic's. (even better)

  11. Friedel

    Neil, Berg, Tiny, Short

    Thompson, Dunn, Flitcroft, Tugay

    Yorke, Jansen

It's really sad that there won't be enough room in the squad for all the forwards, cause all of them deserve praises. In the 2nd half ofcourse we will have Cole and Duff coming on, to scare Celtic a bit.  :rover:
