Actually, I can't speak for his previous clubs, but Northampton have made it clear they absolutely do want to take him in League One.

Spoke to my mate yesterday and he said their manager has been on to Wharton asking if he wants to go back and letting him know he’s definitely wanted there. At a push I could even see Tony trying to do a swap for him and Goode if he’s really not in his long term plans...

I think he was sitting down with all the players last week. Obviously why some have started moving on.

Can't remember seeing the Wharton thing yesterday? Which thread? I'd be disappointed if he went, the noises he's been making suggest he's here to fight for his place.

Was from my mate who plays/played cricket with him - said he was preparing himself for life away from Ewood from what he’d heard from him the last few days. Hopefully he does get a look in for the squad, but seems like he’s getting ready for a worst case scenario.

Well he has said he wants to break through at Rovers this coming season. the article was from this week.

Unfortunately doesn’t mean that it’s going to happen though, does it? Given Mowbray’s reluctance to use him previously and comments about him not being big enough, and us trying to bring in a centre back the same age as him (even after blooding Carter) you’d have to think the younger centre backs we’ve already got on the books won’t feature much, if at all next season.

The article also quotes him as saying:

“I think I have come to that age where I am not a little boy anymore, I am a man of 22," he said.

“I need to get on with my career, be the best I can be and play at the highest level I can play at.”

“I think now is the time to really give it a good go.”

So you could read that either way as optimism or the start of his exit (again). Also the interview could’ve been done days ago and things could’ve changed since then. We’ll have to wait and see but I’d be very surprised if he didn’t leave on loan again or even permanently.

I think Wharton needs to move somewhere permanently, he must be pushing 22 now and has never featured for us really.

Was speaking to my mate who is friends with him earlier and he said it seems like Wharton is preparing for life away from Ewood next season, which is a shame unless we’re planning to loan him to a league 1 club this time.

  5. Just got the playoff first leg on and if we’ve got largely the same squad and are looking at 3 CBs then surely Swansea’s current formation of 3-4-1-2 (er even 5-2-1-2) is the way to go?

That way Dack can stay as no.10 as when he was tried as a false 9 earlier in the season looked like a fish out of water, and means we could see Arma and Gallagher as a strike partnership? Could even let Arma drift out wide as and when he likes and have Gallagher as more of a focal point for Dack to play off (granted this is putting a lot of faith in Gallagher being able to properly play up top as a striker).

  6. For me the obvious issues with Benno aside (inept at full back, not much better in any other position given his advancing years, etc.), the galling thing is that as captain he’s meant to be leading the team on the pitch. How often do you see him barking orders, berating the ref or dragging the performances of those around him up?

Regardless of his ability or performance levels, as captain if he’s doing those types of things then his other shortcomings could be forgiven (to a certain extent), but for me he just doesn’t offer anything. He’s not inspiring his teammates to run through brick walls for him by any stretch of the imagination.

It’s a shame as he does come across as caring about the club and fans, and seems like a genuinely nice person but in TM bafflingly picking him regularly it’s obvious to most outsiders that it’s to the detriment of the team and is doing the player himself no favours. As others have said though you could almost bet your house on him starting at right back in the first game of next season...

If that's true it's nonsense. How big was Henning Berg ?  Two of the smallest guys I remember playing up front for Rovers were two players I wouldn't want to play against , Paul Dickov and David Speedie. Are we signing players purely on account of their size now ? Maybe that accounts for him signing BB or SG. They're big enough alright, until the ball is in the air,  but unfortunately they're not good enough.

I can see Wharton being another O'Connell., remember him ?

I totally agree, it’s madness. But I guess he could’ve meant he needed to bulk up as he is quite lean? Or that’s what I’m hoping he meant, as from seeing Wharton play (and now getting 3 promotions), I think he deserves a go in the squad on merit.

I believe Tony likes 3 at the back and this Wharton can play it fairly well....good attacking threat from set pieces and a decent throw.

One of my mates is mates with him, and apparently Tony hasn’t properly given him a look in before now because he’s ‘not big enough’, so could be anyone’s guess if he’s in the squad plans for the first team for next season.

  9. Just to weigh in on the vaccine by September issue. I’m diabetic so hoping an effective one can be developed as soon as possible for everyone’s sake. But even if there is one all of the initially available doses will go to frontline workers followed by those in the most vulnerable groups, so it would likely be well into next year regardless before the rest of the general public has access to them. And that’s only if the one(s) the government has pre-ordered actually prove viable, which again is still up in the air as labs continue their testing processes and research.

And out of those that would have access to it initially I’d say a large number of them wouldn’t be the first ones queuing up to get into Ewood for a game as other concerns like work/not being able to get to the ground alone if they need assistance/loss of interest/etc. would all take priority.

Wow, that's the worst photo. Blurry hands and his face looks almost CGI (on my phone at least). Someone even forgot to edit in the greenscreen!

That said, I wouldn't give a fuck if they used the greenscreen to add a gay orgy in the background. Just glad we finally have a left back better than Bell!!

Still worried about our CB situation, which was the priority for me all summer.

Hart needs to go on loan again now. Maybe Rochdale again? They rated him, should play him, and he'll be able to build on his understanding with Magloire.

Was a screenshot of a gif to be fair...hopefully his official picture is better!

I’m not saying he’s brilliant but his attributes are more suited to wing back than fullback...don’t you think?

100% he was brought in with the view to being a wing back. Had it from the Fleetwood chairman himself...(along with us being a bigger club). Wether we end up playing him there is a different story!
