  1. After moving back to blighty from Seoul last year, I've been missing the food over there a lot!

I finally managed to go and try the Koreana, a Korean restaurant off Deansgate.

I didn't know what to expect really, as I thought it might be some kind of toned down fusion restaurant. However my Korean gf and I were nicely surprised - this is as authentic as it gets. And two course for a tenner its decent value.

I had the Dwegi galbi (sweet marinated ribs) and Dolsot bibimbap (rice, beef and veg all mixed in spicy sauce in a hot stone bowl) and she had chicken and potato in sweet sauce and a beef dumpling soup.

If you've never tried Korean before, I'd recommend this place for your first experience. It cleaner and less greasy than a Chinese, but unlike Japanese food, has some really big spicy flavours.

Sounds good, I'll give it a go.

  2. We are trying la salsa this week but can anyone recommend an Indian in Blackburn / darwen, shajan is full for when we want and we fancy a drink so bukharra is a no go

Usha on Haslingden Old Rd at Oswaldtwistle is a good curry, good lager and good service. It's a very big place too so it's not often it gets booked up. My opinion is that it's far better food than Shajan. I used to rate Syhlet at Lango but I've not been for some time now as Usha is so good and easier logistically for me.

It's not a bad taxi fare from Blackburn or Darwen either.

  3. Corrected for you.

Kamy / morton...... Funny how I answer your two's questions openly and honestly yet when I ask a a couple of very reasonable questions in return you both run for cover. Tell you what I can't edit now so just ignore question 2 and answer Question 1.

Now come on 'tell the truth and shame the devil' the pair of you.

Kamy... This is a thread about restaurants and food and every post is about an aspect of such. BUT If anything it was your post that was a diversion from the topic. You talked only of halal meat and never mentioned any restaurants at all. Don't you turn into just another board whistle blower will you?

I have answered your questions to the best of my ability. I'm a plumber not a politician therefore as good as I am with central heating and plumbing issues I can not change the world so I live with it.

    Corrected for you.

Kamy... This is a thread about restaurants and food and every post is about an aspect of such. I object strongly to all sorts of things.... On the grounds of cruelty fois gras is a no no for me, veal too. BUT If anything it was your post that was a diversion from the topic. Our opinions differ, I am not likely to change mine and I wouldn't expect you to change yours. :tu:

It would be good to have a full on debate on this topic but I'm afraid this is not the thread to do so. Maybe in the Blues bar after the Everton game??? Then on to the Khyber for a kheema special? :P

I was afraid my simple question would turn into a debate...

Anyone been to the Farmers Glory since it has re-opened? I was wondering if it's as good as it was about 18months ago. We're in Blackpool for the weekend for a wedding this weekend so I will be returning to the 'Don Antonio' in Bispham for a meal on Friday evening. It's well worth a try if your ever in the area.

  4. Whether he will or he won't it is unfortunately his personal choice. It is still a sin and a crime in this country to cut the throat of a fully conscious animal in order to bleed it to death but until the law is enforced equally and without exception hallal meat is to be expected in muslim outlets.

This is all being quickly eroded though when non islamic restaurants, food chains and even catering wholesalers now view see the selling of hallal meat as a sales issue. 'They wont eat anything else and our lot don't seem to bother' seems to be the current missive.

This is a christian country but any christian will have far less choice of menu than a muslim person in a. Blackburn and b. the Trafford Centre.

It's foot in the door tactics that are working through the negligence of our kid glove authorities.

Anyway let me ask you a couple of questions morton.

    1. Do you condone cruelty and unecessary suffering of millions of animals for no scientific or moral reason in our abbatoirs when proven humane slaughtering equipment is within arms length and not used? If so why and on what grounds?

    2. Do you think in the future that hallal slaughter will become the norm in the UK through expedience?

As I clearly stated in my post, I am not debating whether it is right or wrong, I was asking a simple question through interest alone.

We live in a multi faith country, personally I respect everybody's religion and beliefs and I will eat whatever I choose to eat whether it has been slaughtered humanly or not.

    1. My opinion is that whether you cut the throat of a lamb or put an electric bolt through its head doesn't actually concern me too much as the animals in question are bred for slaughter. I enjoy all different types of food from fine dining to the occasional doner kebab, the choice is there for all to take.

    2. Halal slaughter is in practice in our country and will always be as long as we have a religiously diversified population.

  5. good news ......Due to low demand for Halal products the following 5 Stores will be ending their Halal Trial on the 19th July 2010 (No longer serving Halal Products)

    Accrington - BB5 1W

    Burton on Trent - DE14 1YD

    Colne - BB8 9HH

    Old Kent Road - SE15 1JS

    Hyde Road - M18 7AA

i can eat kfc again in july yes.

I don't want to get into the old debate but does this mean you will not eat Indian/Asian meat curry, donner/shish/chicken kebab's, meat pizza's or burgers from any of our many take away's in the Blackburn area? It's just a matter of interest and not an argument/debate of any sort.

  6. Pathetically sad. :(

But let's try to remember he scored 52 goals in 103 starts (+37 subs) for us. OK?

Please refrain from the usual pubescent volatility that pervades this forum.

All you're doing is beating a dead horse and it's classless behavior.

What about the number of times the lazy so and so couldn't be bother dragging his fat gut around the pitch to graft and do his bit? He was paid handsomely to score goals, that was his job so '52 goals in 140 appearances' (37 league goals in 109 apps) is the least we should expect. I like to see Rovers players graft, you didn't see it too often from Benni. If he had grafted a little maybe he'd have been fitter and still playing first team football.

  7. Stick to Mangiamos I think then.....never lets us down!

Does anybody know whether Monte Cristo is the same owner as Mangiamo's? I've been told this is the case and I'm going to try Monte Cristo (at Church next to Hyndburn Sports Centre) next Friday.

  8. Anyone know the name of the Chinese / Cantonese restaurant on Darwen Street that used to be the Welcome? It used to be really good and I fancy eating out at a Chinese restaurant this Sunday. We only have two or three left in Blackburn now which is a shame.

Hollytree – in my opinion the best I have had but very small.

    Guide – Wasn’t that impressed

    Welcome? – Always decent food

Blackburn Buffet City – Never been….should I try it at my own risk?

Isn't it still the Welcome? I've heard good reviews but I've not been for years.

As for Blackburn Buffet City, it's not up there with the best but like everything in like you get what you pay for. I really enjoyed it but the surroundings are those of the old Borough pub with a splash of emulsion but there was a very good choice of food. If you do give it a try, go with an open mind...

For take away's, East Star in Oswaldtwistle is very good. Good value for money and good sized portions with plenty of good quality meat in the dishes.

  9. FFS every thread......

Anyway, I guess it takes all sorts? I was knocked sideways yesterday when I read the write up on the pack horse Belthorn, 8 and 9’s all the way down.

I went several months ago now and have to say it was the worst Italian food I had ever tasted, mate of mine found a piece of metal in his pasta on another occasion , than they did about the menu.

Truly awful, but the Telegraph reporter doesn’t think so….

I've been going there for years Gav, never had a bad meal or bad service. I don't go as often as I used to but I'd recommend it to anyone.

  10. I went to Blackburn Buffet City over Easter. It was all you can eat for £5.60 per head (before 16:30). Excellent value and the food was good. The seating arrangements are a bit like a canteen but it saves paying the overheads for fancy fixtures and fittings. Far better value than a take away and the ale is priced well.

  11. I saw your point, but I am sticking with what I said.

Admittedly, I didn't expect the table to look like it does today, or for Villa to get revenge several times over. Would I swap this win for a win in the semi finals? Tough decision!

I wouldn't. 3 Points against anybody in the Premier League is more important than a cup semi final place for the Rovers at this stage.

  12. It's amazing how differing people can have such different views. In my opinion, he's joined a club really struggling at the bottom of the premier league, in massive amounts of debt for their size, and are paying over the odds for a 32 year old fat footballer.

West Ham are gambling, and gambles don't only pay off!

Correct, there's only one winner with that deal and it's Rovers.

  13. Algheros the other night.......7/10

Is it still the original management? I fell out with that place about 5 years ago, it was quality when it first opened then went down hill. the last time we went the food was awful and the service pretty much the same. Chilled red wine anybody???

  14. Surprised to read some of the vitriol on this thread toward McCarthy. He played well for you, scored some important goals and helped to maintain your Prem Status. Now he wants to move for what he sees as a better opportunity, why would you begrudge him the chance to advance his career with a bigger club during the last few years he has playing football professionally?

    Ha, good one Longsiders.

We're not bitter about Big Mac leaving, as skillful as he is it's a shame he's so selfish and not a team player.

The spammers will see the real Big Mac next season when he's pulling his puss.

  15. A quality winger could do DiSanto wonders. He'd get mostly headed goals I imagine. Another dimension added to the attack if we pull that off.

I know where you are coming from, Olsson has shown signs of an out and out winger, running to the bye-line and whipping the ball in instead of p!ssing about cutting inside or crossing an early ball to nobody. Diouf used to do it for Liverpool and Notlob.

  16. I can understand why as he favours this lone striker formation with a 5 man midfield. Its risky though as Franco doesn't look like scoring, Roberts is a donkey and the only dangerous striker we have Kalinic. If Niko gets injured then we could be in trouble.

It was a strange comment from Sam to say he may not bring in a direct replacement but he must have faith in Roberts or Di Santo to cover if Kalinic gets injured or he could possibly play them together in a 4-4-2 formation.

One line jumped out at me in his quote; "We are searching and doing a little bit of negotiating now." If we are negotiating, we must be close to signing somebody.

  17. Benni has been a player who quickens the pulse and entertains as well as being a very good goal scorer for Rovers. I am sad to see him go but £2m for a fat 32 year old is not bad business.

The guy's comments have been infuriating and refreshing by turns but Benni always gave the impression of telling us as it is.

Sam's role in all this has been unedifying. It seems he took against Benni from the start and Benni's leaving is the end product of an all out effort by Sam recently to drive him out of the club.

Calm down mate, Sam has had the balls to ship him out. Big mac has been unsettled since some joker linked him with a move to chelski. Sam hasn't driven him out, he gave him the chance to get fit and prove his worth and Big mac wasn't prepered to work for his ridiculous salary and pull his (excessive) weight for the club.

I've got used to life without him already and he's not gone anywhere yet!

Big Mac will be even bigger, lazier and less interested in west spam after the world cup.
