  1. He hasn't shown any great pace trickery or consistent desire to get past his immediate defender. As such defenders find him easy to play against. But he has bought into the JDT way.

If he added a committed progressive dimension to his decent finishing ability he would be more threatening.

  2. Lucas Neill was a tough, tenacious skilful and reasonably quick player leader and Captain and was used all across our back line RB LB and CB. He was open about his intention to run his contract down and his performance levels weren't obviously compromised by any lack of application. A proper professional in my view.

Always felt that if he'd gone to Liverpool rather than West Ham (after a last-minute change of heart0 that he would have achieved more footballing success and recognition.

  3. Clutching at straws??

Lady Luck has not been disposed towards us of late. It's time for luck to turn!!

We're short of goals from our shot shy guys. Is there an alternative source of goals?

Forum contributors should not ignore the OG stat that I have discovered.

Luton appear to have so far scored 4 -  Lockyer(2) and Morris and Horvath (1 each).

Millwall appear to have scored 2 - Bradshaw and Hutchinson (1 each).

If our guys can't do it the opposition could!!

    Fingers crossed!!

  4. The ever-optimist in me harks back to 1991/92 season. Could history repeat itself?

We lost 6 league games on the trot in March and April (coinciding with Newell's injury absence) and the crawled across the playoff line in 6th after that glorious win at Plymouth on the last day. The rest is history as they say.

When Newell came back and linked with Speedie for the last 5 games there were goals in the line up.

I'm not at all confident we've got those result changing goals in the team this season though.

  5. Rovers have had no luck on the 4 previous occasions I've been to Bramhall Lane.

I couldn't contemplate an early return there after trips there in 1969 twice and 1971  when we suffered 3-0 4-0 and 5-0  cosecutive defeats (I still can't get Tony Currie and Alan Woodward out of my consciousness!!) until the disappointment of that FA Cup quarter final penalty shoot-out loss in 1993.

Never again never again was my mantra but i'll be back there on Sunday as undoubtedly every dog does eventually have its day and on Sunday I believe it will be Rovers who will be barking loud and proud,

Adam Catterall is an old boy of St Bede's Blackburn.

He gave a superb motivational speech as  principal guest at the school Annual Presentations Night some years ago though it wasn't in the same league as the one delivered by Lorenzo Amoruso which was truly inspirational (though the link between our erstwhile Italian Colossus and the school was never explained).

  7. The opportunity to draw a line under the various issues and disappointments that appear to have fragmented the customer base recently has been lost.

"Back to Live" should have given the Club executive the chance to initiate and stimulate interest and support from the new generation of young supporter that is essential to growth and ultimate survival.  I don't have marketing experience but the basis of renewal price and "incentive" structure is to me unexciting unimaginative and fails to create a new attractively affordable reason for "the new kids to arrive on our block" and stay.

The credits allowed against last season's ST costs  may well ensure most ST holders renew this season (I will be renewing) but the Club needed to go flat out to get the next generation involved and hooked.

  8. Bazza asked: "Could this be the usual good run of games followed by the bad run which may start with Wigan at home?"

    Hope not!!!  But,

The squad are apparently taking a few well earned days off after the exertions of the last few days in particular and the last few weeks generally.

Last year the few days off (and reportedly the players Xmas party) were during an extended break at the back end of November following which they never really turned up for the away games at Wigan and Preston.

I really don't expect Mowbray to allow lightning to strike twice. I'm confident that the player "bonding exertions" festivities and days off won't compromise performance against Wigan and "bigclub".

  9. Been trying to keep tabs on Harry Chapman's progress at Boro since he went back as Mowbray had never said never and perhaps more tellingly the player's social media profile & messages hinted that a return to Ewood was not out of question.

IIRC didn't Pulis block him moving "somewhere" at the end of August 18 prompting a particularly grumpy SM message by Chapman or on his behalf.

Anyway the only injuries that I detected that kept him out of playing contention this season were one recurrence of the hamstring issue early season and then in his 1st game on return to action a (dislocated) shoulder injury after he'd apparently played quite well.

Time will tell. His brand and style is exciting and progressive (and gets people on their feet in expectation) so I'm not against getting him in in principle  but would his signing block Joe Rothwell's progress?

  10. Joe Rothwell's impact from bench on left side yesterday suggests to me that if that form can be repeated regularly that we don't need a Chapman or Edwards type that would take up a squad number and additional wages.

My preference would be for Mowbray (Waggot) and Rodwell to agree a longer term deal.

If the owners are truly in it for the long term then it is  undoubtedly in the mutual interests of Fans, Players, Management, Ancillary Employees, that everyone is singing from the same hymn sheet. Mowbray whom most supporters feel has the best interests of the Club at heart has openly recently stated that he would like to see circumstances where the owners can return.

I do not expect any kind of grovelling apology as some seem to want but there should come a time when an apologetic tone and explanation could create a more forgiving climate for them.

No one could be expected to forget the disastrous recent history. Forgiveness may take a long while to achieve. Just getting along without barbs and histrionics would be an acceptable position for me to take.

It would be interesting to see a poll of whether if Venkys came to a game, people would welcome them or meet them with hostility.

I think the analogy of someone having the decency to take you to hospital after stabbing you in the face was a very apt one!

But that analogy suggests that the "culprit"  recognises his fault if not guilt, and is an open expression of concern for the recovery of the patient.

I am guardedly of the view that  over the period of Mowbray's tenure that the owners  have at least demonstrated a closed  recognition of their failure to control the "alleged plunderers" in enabling the local control over finance and admin under Waggott and the positive and clearly planned  retention of senior playing and managerial staff amongst the many and varied other signs of "the recovery of the patient".

There could be legal issues that will never be in the public domain that prevent the owners from ever being able to openly and fully explain the history of the first phase of ownership.

An explanation would be helpful but in its absence the present and continuing financial commitment suggests that they want the Club to be upwardly mobile (as do the fans)
