  1. Benitez only wanted a cash deal and would not agree to their player also coming to us.

As one who thought Neill had a better season last year but that he does not really understand how to tackle, I am watching with interest how the situation unfolds.

on a happier note.... Just watching it now..., The guys in the stands are doing us proud. Making lots and lots of noice. GOOD `GOING GUYS: Up the rovers

Rovers are not playng well so far. Sloppy defending and bad passing.... Oh, and what the heck happened at their first goal. awful defending

  2. Elmander has been one of the absolute top players in the danish league for a couple of years. He now seems on his way to be partnering Zlatan up front for sweden. Anyone playing footy man a few years back will know him. He played for Feyenoord and was amazing...

I actually thought about him this summer as it was apparant that he'd leave Denmark but I came to the conclusion he woulndt be good for Rovers - not a good finisher and rather expensive. Hughes thought otherwise it appears....=)

In my opinion... the guy cant finish to save his life. Really good at getting into positions, but he just cant tuck em away. On the other hand he is good at playing behind either two or one striker. Also does rather well on the wing. So in that respect he fits the bill perfectly - hughes seems to by utility men at the moment doesnt he...

anyway. He is now in france so never mind=)

just bugs me he turned us down!

  3. I wouldn't, to be honest.. saw him quite a bit for Roma last season, he didn't impress much. Strong and physical, but not very good on the ball, and not particularly fast either. Ooijer will come good!

Must admit I havent seen for Roma at all! But for Bayern he was consistantly one of the top performers. As I remember him from the german days he was ectually very good on the ball and quite fast.

Oh, well... things change I guess=)

    PS

I have if not high then good hopes for Ooijer. Really annoys me he is 32 though. Something with young players that allows you to dream of futere world class....

  4. Just read a few comments, nice to see people are finally cottoning on to MGP. I thought Gally was far superior, some great passes. I liked Bentley today. I liked Brett today. The penalty ###### me off big time, especially since Chelsea hold just about EVERY opportunity they get and the infraction was nowhere near where the ball was going. I am not saying it was not a penalty but if you give that you MUST give the one at the other end about the 70th minute when they hold AND pull the shirt. I thought it was McCarthy being held and the ball was there to be played.

New guy Ooyah had a rough game, think he may be alright once he adapts.

We simply are not incisive enough yet going forward. Not too disappointed with our play, in fact quite pleased actually. Same old same old big team favouritism IMHO. I guess it's here to stay.

PLeasing points for me, Bentley, Gally, Emerton, Neill and Brad still coming off his line better.

    MGP needs sitting.

I agrre completely. Chelskis pem is there to be judged but come on the bit of tustling goes on every 5 minutes. On the other hand the pen that wasn't awarded us in the 2nd half is unquestionable.

Over all I am quite pleased with the performance. Reid disappointed me but Bentley did well. And Benni seems a class act. How unlucky was he not to score (good save from Petr C). I didnt really notice Emo wich means he had a good game I guess.

I usually don't complain about refs... An usually I am thinking everything will even itself out bla bla bla. But I am really getting sick with how some teams are getting all the favors. There is the Riley at old trafford story, we all know that and thats so f**ked up its untrue, but in general we are getting scr**wed over time and time again. And I bet we are not the only small/medium team that has it like that.

I dont know what to do about it. Its just really frustrating that you start every game with the feeling that a ref will s**w Rovers over - and the part is the line of thaught is almost right every time. Before anyone argues that we escaped it against everton with todd dodging the bullet... well it was a one off. Remember when we went about 60 games (or something like that) without a pen... ARGH I am just so worked up I better end this rant.

    GO Rovers.

  5. This is what BBC thinks of Rovers and the comng season - Key man lucas neill. Bloody hell what are they on...

    BLACKBURN ROVERS

    Latest club news

    Nickname: Rovers

    Ground: Ewood Park

    Capacity: 31,367

    Last season: 6th

    Manager: Mark Hughes (September 2004)

In: Jason Brown (Gillingham), Francis Jeffers (Charlton), Benni McCarthy (Porto, undisclosed), Jason Roberts (Wigan, undisclosed)

Out: Lorenzo Amoruso, Craig Bellamy (Liverpool, £6m), Paul Dickov (Manchester City), Gary Harkins (Grimsby)

BBC Sport verdict: Surprised many by qualifying for Europe - but have lost a potent threat in Liverpool-bound striker Craig Bellamy.

Jason Roberts and Benni McCarthy will hope to fill the gap - while Francis Jeffers has been given one more chance to prove himself at Premiership level.

Supporters should be pleased if they can have another season like 2005/06.

Key man: Lucas Neill. Had a good World Cup, and an important man in defence.

  6. I think we can defo rule out martin Jørgensen as a possible candidate for rovers.

    1) He loves living in italy

    2) He has stated that after italy he is going home to denmark

    3) dont think he would win over at lot of rovers fans. I for one find him annoying to watch when playing for the national team. Always makes the wrong decisions - holds on to the ball for too long, shoots when he should pass etc.

there are better options otuthere... not least in those lists....

Would love to have valerij bojinov - but seriously doubt hed come too=(

  7. Might as well think like that.

Maybe a bit of positive thinking would do us good. Seems like every other English person is waiting for us to fail, quite a terrible way of approaching things if you ask me.

Brazil always believe they can win, and often do. Maybe if we believed more, we could achieve more.

Then again the media will never let the England team win, they are desperate to see us fail.

I know I might get my head kicked in for this.... But as a person outside the UK looking in its hard for me to see another country with higher expectations to their national team than the english - specially if you compare expectations to results over the past 50 years. Of course Brazil... but they kinda have valid grounds I think... where as the english doesnt....

Take spain for instance... over the past 20 years or so they have been regarded as one of the contenders and they have had high hopes for themselves. But this year they have sort of realised that their recent performances couldnt merrit the high expectations and therefor they have been more humble this year.

Again looking from the outside... I find England under sven playing the most boring football known to man... but its hard to really knock what he has done in the big tournos result wise . losing to brazil 4 years ago and going out on pens 2 years ago can be put down to those marginals that top footie is all about.

Souness' Lady luck does have a say when it comes to deciding the big tournements and this year might be it for england. Certainly based on the first 4 games...

  8. Both super talented players. But I do think that a lot of people wear those english tinted glasses... as far as talent goes... talk about Messi will you. Now theres a player that will make it big!

With rgds to a top 5 or 10 list.. thats always going to be hard isnt it... do you base on form the few months or do you take into consideration how they have performed over the past 2 years...

If its the first neither Adriano og Zlatan would make the list.If its based on the latter both these players would make the list...

I gues we could all agree that all players on this post are damn talented and a joy to watch. Thank god for the world cup=)!

  9. There are some pretty good players on that list. Good work putting that on here.

At least a couple of the defenders could be interesting as well as some of the midfielders.

Strikers I dont think any of those that might be interesting would come to Rovers. Too many clubs would be sniffing around for good deals for us to compete...

A bid for mutu might be good though as he is a talented that wouldnt cost too much - even if they dont go down.

Would do you guys think with regards to transfers... any one in particular youd like?

  10. I have had that very same thought Revidge. He could be very motivated to lead the team out - see what they are capable of and the re-think the situation again next year. And thats fair enough in my book.

He will be a year older then and might not be worth the reported £50 mil. he is now

.... but thats really not his problem is it=)

  11. In danish tv they had done a quick interview view a danish FIFA REF and what he said was as Tony Diamond says.... If you blow for the freekick its a red because he is denied a goalscoring opportunity and if the goal had stood it would only have been a yellow.

Not only does it seem fair its apparently what the FIFA refs are taught..... therefor if Hauge had just waited for that ,5 sec. the CL final would have continued to be a great game. Instead it turned out to be an interesting tactical display -which can be fine sometimes. I just feel that it would have been nice with a game 11 vs 11.

  12. YEEEEEHHAAAAA! Great feeling today. Watched the game in a pub and everyone there seemed to agree rovers are playing good football. Nomore buly boys=)

Anyway... Hoping for denmark or southern sweden. Will make traveling easier. Also i am distinctky not hoping for eastern europe. Those teams are very often very tough to play away and they are often underestimated. Austria, Israel and scandinavia will prove our best chance of a good run...

  13. I reckon billy castell has come up with a really good solution with the banning of G14 players from the internationel tournos... how many players would wanna play for the scum if the couldnt win the Euro championship or the world cup.

Dont now if FIFA would, or could, do it cos its out of the territory but UEFA should, and perhaps would, as creating a euroleague would be breaking away from UEFAs organisation - and therefor those choosing to play for the breakaway clubs has alsochosen to brak away. And wouldnt the national assosiation of the players then be entitled to compensation for losing thier assets that they have sent money on developing....

This potential euroleague will indeed f up footie as we know it. And what really pisses me of is that no one in the press jumps on this and condem it publicly

  14. i havent read all the pages but it seems some on here think that "the messi incident" wasnt a foul. Is that right because for me it was clearly a foul and from the referees that have commented on danish tv it was even the red card Hauge dished out...

That said.... Cheats are ruining the game, but calling players who are kicked cheats is ruining the game equaly as its more or less condoning the bullies taking out the flair... and for me the flair and skill is what makes footy fun to watch and participate in

to think we were the bully boys huh=)

    up the rovers

  15. I absolutely love watching messi. He impresses me every time.Dont wanna put any tags on him, but just say that he is a super player that is precisely what a modern footballer should be like - fast, skillfull, fantastic balance, aware and very very direct.

That red card was totally in its place. if you look at the replay its obvious the del horno is a yard away from the ball - and del horno could have had one from the when he caught messi on the thigh earlier.

I think calling him a cheat is outragous. he was kicked about the hole game and just got up and played on - a very fair player tonight. That was my view and the danish commentators all said it so who ever said that on BBC must be waring some very blue tinted glasses! outragous!

Sorry about the spelling. it might be worse than normally.. but a few beers takes their toll...
