And keeping on this theme of agreeing withother posters, it is indeed odd Vinjay, that the likes of Jude Law or Tom Hanks does not get slated for taking home a tidy £10-20m for crap like the remake of Alfie or Forrest Gump.

People aren't brought up to support the likes of these poncy actors as they are with football teams .

Except for the decent role model types like Oliver Reed , Richard Harris , Peter O'Toole ....

What would AESF had mde of their exploits ?

Another disgusting selfish footballer causes death through dangerous driving...

Jordan-Robertson-001.jpg

Sheffield United striker Jordan Robertson started a jail sentence yesterday for causing death by dangerous driving. Robertson was busy changing songs on an iPod in his Mercedes car on the M1.

He was too busy with his iPod to notice that he was losing control of his vehicle. Because of his lack of concentration and selfishness his Mercedes car veered into the path of a 38-year-old man's car and killed him.

A spokesman for Sheffield United said the club's thoughts were with the victim's family, but it was "too early to say anything else".

Too early to condemn this reckless individual who caused the death of an innocent man? Too early to say that Robertson's contract will be ripped up and that the club won't pay him a penny now that he's been jailed?

Are we not able to have just a single sentence of condemnation from Sheffield United about the selfish actions of a player who killed a father-of-five? Or do Sheffield United still view Robertson as a saleable asset on the balance sheet for their club?

When Lee Hughes killed another man through dangerous driving and then ran away from the scene because he's a disgusting coward, he was still welcomed back into football with open arms by Oldham Athletic and subsequently Notts County. (Shame on you Sven for signing this odious creature in the summer.)

Lee Hughes initially tried to appeal against his prison sentence. The victim's family said that it took years for Hughes to offer any apology to them. All Lee Hughes cared about was himself - nobody else.

I haven't read a single public word of apology yet from Jordan Robertson - or does he also want to try to appeal against his sentence too?

The punishments dished out by soft judiciary NEVER fit the crime.

Indeed. Plymouth goalkeeper Luke McCormick, who was jailed last year for causing death by dangerous driving and being more than twice over the legal alcohol limit, will no doubt be released early from his prison sentence in a few years.

McCormick is the scumbag who killed two young boys on the M6. The court heard that he "drove like an idiot" on the motorway.

In the sickening world of football when Luke McCormick is released from prison no doubt he'll also be welcomed back into football with open arms by another club who will care more about signing a goalkeeper rather than about the feelings of Philip and Amanda Peak, whose lives were shattered by the deaths of their two young boys.

"We will both carry the emotional scars forever," said the boys' mother Amanda Peak after McCormick was jailed. Sadly there'll be another football club out there who won't give the feelings of the Peak family any priority at all and will be only too happy to sign another goalkeeper - even one who has killed two young boys.

Both Gordon Brown (and Tony Blair before him) have joined the football bandwagon over the last decade, positioning themselves in front of the cameras where football is concerned. In our modern culture now where football is seen as "sexy" by some people, there are votes to be won by being associated with the game of football and we now have the Scottish Mr Brown trying to position himself as an England fan by going to games at Wembley.

Both Blair and Brown have tried to claim that footballers are "role-models" and have enjoyed being photographed with the likes of David Beckham outside the steps of 10 Downing Street.

One wonders if Mr Brown views all footballers including the likes of Jordan Robertson, Lee Hughes and Luke McCormick as "role-models" or is it just the so-called "sexy" players like Beckham who bring huge publicity to the game.

What Mr Brown (and Mr Blair before him) have emphatically not done is to introduce tougher jail sentences for criminals. So much for being "tough on crime, tough on the causes of crime". We've had violent criminals and drink-drivers released early from their already pathetically soft jail sentences because of a lack of prison spaces. (Brown being the Chancellor for a decade who refused to give the Home Office funds to build more prisons.)

Perhaps Mr Brown should speak with the families of the victims that Robertson, Hughes and McCormick all selfishly killed on the roads and explain to them why those footballers will serve just a few years in prison for their crimes.

I'm fully aware of course that it's not just footballers who kill people through dangerous driving. Our country has far too many scumbags who feel it's acceptable to drive under the influence of alcohol or to drive recklessly while not keeping concentration. That's a problem in our society which Brown and co. have failed to address.

It just sickens me that when these highly paid footballers are jailed for serious crimes they seem to have another job waiting for them at a club. In many ordinary jobs in the community if you are convicted and jailed for a serious crime then you rightly lose your employment and a substantial amount of income. Yet scumbags like Lee Hughes are still able to earn thousands of pounds a week after they are released.

Perhaps if our politicians spent a little less time on PR photo shoots with footballers outside Downing Street, a bit less time shaking hands with players at Wembley and a bit more time building prisons and toughening up our criminal justice system then we might see fewer deaths of innocent people, both on the roads and out in the crime-ridden streets.
