If each parent speaks a different language, I can never understand why each doesn't speak to their child in that language from birth.

My granddaughter in Barcelona speaks three languages fluently. She speaks English with no hint of a Spanish accent. Her school teaches her in Catalan whilst mum and dad communicate to each other in Spanish. Dad speaks to her in English and Mum speaks to her in Catalan.

There is a girl at her school whose father is English. She knows very little of the language because he has never spoken to her in it.

Totally agree! It's definitely an opportunity missed by the parents that don't speak to the kids in their own language.

The Spanish second tier is particularly poor, a lower standard than the Championship. I doubt he'd want to drop to that level just to learn Spanish easier. He could just hire a tutor if he's that desperate.

Maybe not the same level as the championship, but not particularly poor, come on!

A tutor isn't the same as living and being immersed in the country. I hope he can kick on at Villarreal all the same.

  3. A random one here, so please excuse me for going slightly off topic. Me and my son went to the Betis Burnley game yesterday played at Huelva Recreativo's ground. We live in Seville and are Betis fans. The family are all Rovers for generations. Decided not to wear any Rovers gear, 'cause I don't like causing a scene. Anyway, good game for a preseason turn out, including a goal for Betis from inside their own half that went off the bar and then bounced back off the Burnley keeper's head and in. Lovely stuff!

That's a shame. I'm going round to his place tonight to watch the Man Utd v Rochdale game so I'll try and put a rocket under him. I've got loads of cuttings from the 1963 era, mainly from the " Last Sports ". Lots of those little" Sam Says" cartoons - One after we'd beaten Sheff Wed 3-0 on Good Friday - " Yon Owls Played Like They'd Been Up All Neet ". I've got reports and photographs of the famous Bryan Douglas goal against WBA the next day. Still the best goal I've ever seen by a Rovers player.

I started playing myself the following season so my visits to Ewood became a lot less after that.

They sound amazing. My dad was a regular during those times, he'd love to see them. Hope Rochdale play a good game! Go easy on yr lad :)

" The Manchester Evening News " published a match report with a cartoon strip that showed a really good caricature of Dougie weaving his way in and out of about 6 Utd defenders who were all busy falling over as he went past them. The little fella beat them on his own that day ! I still have the cartoon but I don't know how to up load it.

I'd love to see that. You could find someone to scan it for you, or just take a photo of it.

Neither Liverpool or Manchester was actually considered traditional Lancashire. You could put Bury Rochdale and Oldham in traditional Lancashire.

I remembered showing my grandma a rovers scarf which said 'The pride of Lancashire' in the mid 90s (she was in her 80s at the time) and she asked 'what about liverpool and united?'. I always went with her authority on this matter. She was rovers through and through btw.

Very nice kit. Would look fantastic without a sponsor so the kids will be happy.

I think they really are missing out on extra custom by not offering a shirt without sponsor, I for one don't buy shirts that I feel are ruined by a tacky sponsor. They could charge a little more and give the money to the sponsor if it would keep them happy. Love this new kit BTW! Smart collar!

2007 - Rovers 2 - 0 Man City. FA cup game. Amazing atmosphere at Ewood, they had high expectations and we were a total class above. Collectors item from Mokoena and a jubilant Matt Derbyshire in front of the Blackburn end at the end. One of the great Ewood moments of modern times.

I was at that game, you're right about the atmosphere... great memories!
