  1. I doubt Lucas would lie to me, no reason to,

Sorry but I'm going to call bull here...there are plenty of reasons why Lucas would stick to a story so he can see out his final five months or so in relative peace and harmony if need be.

The man may not be telling blatant lies exactly but do you really think he was telling the whole truth?

Doesn't it strike you as surprising that the story Lucas puts it reflects well on him but not on the club? The ridiculous insistence that the booing didn't bother him (really what was all that after the goal against Nancy about then?) but instead bothers the team was disingenuous to say the least.

Of course there is far more to this whole story than we know and thanks for telling us what he said as it was very interesting but the comments from Neill should be taken with a large pinch of salt. They might be true for all we know however!?!?

  2. 20,000 x £13 x 19 = £4,940,000 BRFC

    25,000 x £20 x 19 = £9,500,000 Charlton (at a guess)

    30,000 x £25 x 19 = £14,250,000 Villa (at a guess)

    60,000 x £33 x 19 = £38,000,000 Arsenal

Regarding the £13 per seat...is that what they get per game from season tickets or including walk-ons? Don't remember JW being too clear on that. Obviously the Liverpool game for example would be far higher than that with so many having paid £36.

Also...is the £13 for each seat filled or are they using that on the basis of a full stadium...£13 for each seat filled or £13 for each seat of the 30,000?

  3. Galliopli wasnt made up

There was a negative portrayal of the upper crust British officers sending the good old working class Aussies to their death which was pretty fair to be honest. That said those same kind of officers treated the working class Tommies as cannon fodder to so it was nothing personal!

  4. When we played Cardiff in the FA Cup replay of two years ago we wanted to reduce the prices to around the usual £10 mark, Cardiff were fully against this and wanted more, I think eventually we met them half way and the price was about £20.

Can't say I blame them...revenue from cup runs can be vital to lower league sides.

For the report on best clubs to follow mentioned above by AndyR here is the criteria used...Littlewoods - Best/worst Clubs to follow

  5. It's quite late I know, but Javi De Pedros spell at IFK Göteborg wasn't the most successful ;) Just a few minutes after coming on as a substitute for the reserves, he punched an opponent and got sent off. And that was the end of his IFK career.

So...all in all still better than his Rovers career then?

Where's LeChuck when you need to constantly remind someone about what they said on a messageboard years ago?

He's the new Rochdale manager....Dale turn to Hill

Whoops - the link is correct now.

Also Keith Barker has returned from Rochdale where he played 16 games on loan and scoring once. Unfortunately I don't think he was a success there at all.

  7. FLB, the language was exageratted to make a point.

Persoanlly, Im looking forward to Derbyshire and Billy Sharp up front, and Haestadd in the middle of the park next season

    Yes I know it was.

However also exaggerated is the need to rain on the parade. We've got a young local lad trying to make his way into the team. It's almost as exciting for some fans as it is for the lad himself. Only a few are getting carried away.

No need for anyone to be posting that he'll never make it or things along those lines.

Let's see how it goes... :tu:

Well, you can get away with one average/poor striker as long as the other one is top class. Try to imagine a forward line with two Mattys' in. We would hardly win a game IMO. That's some kind of gauge of how far Matt has to go yet. That's all.

How many games would we win with two Frannys up front? Or two Shabanis (sounds like a curry..." give us two Shabanis and I'll have mine with nan bread ;) )? Or even two Bennis....how many offsides can one game take?

Forward lines only work because of the two forwards working off each other.

So...er...where was I...oh yes...I disagree that it is any kind of gauge. The gauge would be how Matty performed with all the different strikers we do have at the club.

To which I'd say at the moment that he's not good enough to be a main striker but we could do we seeing more of him, particularly off the bench when opposing defenders are cream-crackered. ;)

  8. I'm having a little difficulty following this slightly off-topic discussion. The Normans were Christian (nominally) whilst the Vikings were Pagan (many gods).

Well Fife it isn't quite that simple...we are talking about the same people really. The Normans were just Vikings who settled in the South (mainly England and a part of Northern France that was named after them...Normandy) ...the Normans we are talking about had converted to Christianity but were still Vikings or descendants of Vikings. The word Normans = men from the north, i.e. vikings. Most of us probably have Viking blood in us somewhere...the north was infested by them.

The question is...what has that got to do with the gate debate?

Well....what kind of percentage of our gates are made up of Vikings or Normans or whatever you want to call them?

And...what can we do get more of them in? Free longboats laid on? Two pints of mead for the price of one? Blue-and-white Horned helmets for sale in the "ex"-club shop?

Anyway, back to wringing our hands about our crowds...

  9. I think Theno's folks have been around a bit before 1066

Even back then thenodrogs were complaining about all these Normans coming over here taking our women, dividing up our oxen, building their ruddy great cathedrals in our hamlets and so on. NormoViks or something they began calling them...

  10. The goal against Fulham was an exceptional piece of skill. He made the keeper look daft because he took the chance so early when it didn't look possible to get any sort of effort in. Thereby throwing the keeper totally.

The keeper made himself look daft...it was awful goalkeeping. Completely losing the flight of the ball and ending up way out from the centre of the net before the ball had dropped was not down to Nonda. While he did well enough to reach it and steer it on target the keeper messed up, simple as. Watch it again and see what on earth the keeper is trying to do.

In fact...here you go - Nonda goal

If Brad had acted like that you would have been critical of him and rightly so.

There have been too many woeful performances to convince me that we should be looking to keep Nonda in the team for the second half of the season. The partnership with Benni has been disappointing and while neither have really excelled at least the South African does regularly score and shows glimpses of what he could do if he got into his stride.

Nonda was supposedly a speedy striker with lethal finishing before his injury troubles. It may be that he won't be the same striker again. Personally I think we need a different kind of striker to play with either Benni or Nonda as they just don't work well together.

  11. Well it's about a 40:40 bet so you aren't going out too much on a limb are you?

I've said I expect Wigan to be his last game and he won't be playing against Everton in the cup...what more do you want? A date and time?

Hughes has known he wants to leave for long enough so it is unlikely he hasn't got it all worked out already, having a club captain booed by his own fans should not be dragged out any longer than necessary.

Of course I may be wrong and he stays but I can't see that be in the best interests of anybody.

  12. How many goals has Nonda got so far? He managed 2 against Arsenal and also the 1 were he got us 3 points, any more?

He 'scored' a goal against Fulham...alhough that was solely down to their keeper's woeful positioning...it was actually a soft attempt by Nonda which trickled its way into the net more than anything. Still, they all count.

As his goals against Arsenal were a penalty and a tap-in (albeit an agile one) then none of them have been really impressive since the winner against Boro...but that was three months ago.

Personally I just think the rest of his game is even worse...having a striker who rarely scores is one thing but having a striker who rarely scores and rarely seems to offer anything else is another. As soon as Roberts gets back I think that he will find he has nobody blocking his way to the first team.

  13. The reason the club can charge those prices against Liverpool is because their supporters will pay it. If the club lowered prices the ground wouldn't get much more full although more and more Liverpool fans would be scrambling to buy tickets.

It's also about time that Rovers let us know what the actual capacity of the ground is as it certainly doesn't seem to be the 31,367 as claimed.

How many Liverpool fans were there yesterday? I'm sure there must have been many in the home ends who know how to keep quiet.

In other words...exactly how many Rovers were there? Presuming Boro bring about, say, 2,000 (just a round number for convenience of adding up) then how many can we expect?

The obsession with the Big Four seems to have spread to our fans too...if ain't a big cheese rolling into town (or a local derby)...then it ain't going to get a good crowd along to it whatever the ticket price.

  14. It'd make most sense for Lucas to leave in the transfer window. We have to replace him anyway so we might as well get some money out of the deal for him to be able to do so.

Certainly wouldn't look forward to this dragging out until the rest of the season. Both the club and Neill need to move on.

  15. I'm told Howls Moving Castle is superior to Spirited Away - but that kind of thing isn't my cup of tea so I can't vouch for that personally.

You were told wrong I'd suggest (although it isn't my favouite of his) but each to their own. They aren't that easy to get into for the normal viewer I'd think but they are a bit special.

As for another kind of Asian film...try Oldboy, a brilliant South Korean gangster film. Might be a bit violent though so I'll echo Matt's suggestion of 'Ran' even though it isn't Kurosawa's best...that would be 'Shichinin no samurai' (The Seven Samurai) which may well be the greatest film ever. Seriously...if you watch it and don't like it then you are thick.* Usually I hate when people say things like that but...meh, in this case it is warranted. :P

    * - Actually that might sound worse than I meant it to...but (hey!) we do have our own favourite movies to defend.
