  1. Another frustrating performance against a team well below us in the league.

What amazed me was just how well organised Coventry were and that they had a proper game plan, getting the ball to their front two who never gave our defence a moments peace. In fact they were all a yard quicker to the ball.

Whatever is happening on the training ground is not working for Rovers. We only seem to play well in spells. The defence, after improving with Lenihan and Williams there is now too easy to open up. Branthwaite will be a good player but he’s not what we need at the moment, better to put Nyambe in the centre and play Bennett at right back. Or go to 5 at the back.

Hopefully Rankin-Costello will be available soon as he brings a lot of energy to the team but I fear that he will be another one that won’t be completely fit to add to Travis and Dack.

Last nights results were another death knell in our promotion bid. It looks like there's one place up for grabs - and Cardiff look like they're going to be the team that comes from nowhere to snatch it.

Tough game tonight but I think we'll win it. Barnsley like to play out from the back and pass the ball around, that suits our style of play more than teams that sit back and play for second balls.

Cardiff showing what a change of manager can do! Mick Mccarthy getting more from the same players than Neil Harris.

  3. Tough game this. We only just scraped a win at home when we were on form.

Barnsley have some quality with Chaplin and Mowatt always playing well against us.

Much will depend on who is available but its not a game for semi-fit players or ones who are short of form or confidence.

The defence pretty much picks itself as despite his poor showing on Friday, Branthwaite is still the best available (unless Ayala makes a swift recovery). Douglas or Bell at left back is a toss up with neither being too effective. Evans or Trybull to return?

The main thing is that we set up properly with everyone knowing their job and position. Yes Tony we need a formation!

Brereton will be playing in the Prem within a few years.

    Possibly even internationally (with Chile).

Chapman will be nowhere near that.

A few stepovers and goals in League 1 won’t change that.

As much as Brereton has improved this season he is nowhere near Prem level. Chile international? Really?

Two cracking goals with either foot from Chapman in League 1 may be his level. Maybe Brereton could do with a spell there.

  5. Locked in and snowed in here in Huddersfield so thought I may as well start a match topic for this weekend’s game against Stoke.

Weather not looking too promising for Ewood on Saturday, with heavy rain forecast which of course will guarantee the pitch to be even worse than it has been in recent matches.

As for Stoke we know exactly what they are about having played them just before Xmas since when they have added a few players to their squad, the latest being Jack Clarke from Spurs, a promising wide player originally at Leeds. Lets hope we have a full back capable of handling him. Will Nyambe be available? Who knows?

Hopefully Rovers bring in the lad from Everton to shore up the defence but its all a bit last minute with Rovers transfer dealings so don’t be surprised if we wait until January 31st!
EDIT Seems the deal is now done and he will play on Saturday!

As for the rest of the team, its likely to revert to the usual midfield but depending if Johnson is required in defence. Up front will be the usual suspects, Brereton, Armstrong and Elliott.

The prevailing opinion seems to be that this is all the fault of the evil EFL and poor Rovers are just a helpless bystander.

I am no lover of the EFL, but I think it’s highly unlikely they have sent Steve Waggot an email this morning telling him they’ve just decided today is a bank holiday in their eyes. At the very least Rovers are guilty of selling something based on assumptions without bothering to check things thoroughly.

And as for knocking a tenner off next season being the only solution. Bollocks. Just kicking the can, hoping people forget. There’s still fans who forked out for tickets to away games last season waiting for some form of recompense. That’s borderline robbery.

But of course, none of this can possibly be poor on the clubs part!

Its not just Rovers fans affected by this. i believe Derby fans have been hit by the same daft decision.

The money paid to EFL by season pass holders will go to the club anyway so Im not sure why they cant simply refund everyone? Unless they cant be doing with the hassle.

Either way, the club is clearly in breach of contract (not that I suggest anyone taking legal action over this). Hopefully the club will offer refunds to those who request one.

That will be the problem , when footy returns properly , so many fans will have lost interest ... Mowbray and his awful tactics coupled With people having to find other pastimes ......

God knows how much a game it will be !!

Come on Waggy, I know there's a lot of despondency and depression around this message board but you can’t honestly believe in what you are suggesting.

Most football fans are desperate to get back to watching live football. Hell, my son and his mate drove from Huddersfield today to watch AFC Darwen play! Yeah I know that’s taking enthusiasm a bit far!

As for the game tomorrow. It will be tough. Town are no pushovers but aren't likely to put men behind the ball a la Stoke and Wednesday. Should be a good game.

  8. When Brereton is back Gallagher will be on the bench most likely. It’s not his fault that he is being played out of position but he and Mowbray need to ask themselves what they consider his best position to be? He’s a big lad so should be trying to outmuscle the big defenders but that rarely happens. As someone says he’s happier running with the ball and less happy scrapping for headers etc. In the box.

The annoying thing is that Mowbray knew exactly what Gallagher was capable of before signing him so it’s not like any of this should be a surprise

  9. No one expected Johnson to do a great job yet he did, albeit that he didn’t come under a lot of pressure. No complaints despite a goal conceded.

Our problems lie in being unable to break down strong, stubborn and well organised defences. We can have 100% possession but it’s no good if we can’t get the ball in the net.

Losing Travis and Brereton have been big factors in our slump. Not saying we would have won all games but we would have posed more threat going forward. I wouldn’t rely on Dack’s return changing things dramatically but hopefully he can help the team.

From a diehards fan’s point of view it hurts when we lose in such circumstances but the manager is paid to get results and he needs to sort it out.

    We Bumble on.

Sometimes I think that some fans actually want us to lose.

OK, we didn’t play well last night but performances this season have generally been good. Let’s have one of them on Saturday

Mowbray Said this about Adarabiyoyo: said: "Ultimately, we couldn't afford him, that's the first part of the question. This is why this loan system is really good because not in a million years could we afford Tosin Adarabioyo. We’ll wait and see, but I'm not thinking sat here that Tosin will be starting next season with us, unless Man City do us a huge favour of course, I'm not sure that will be the case.

then he signed for Fulham for 2m

And a salary of about 60k per week most likely
