Not been to either if those but can imagine!  Another one from my Rossy Utd watching days was Emley. Their ground was v close to the TV mast you can see off the M62 😲

I nearly got signed by Bacup Borough back in the mid 1960’s. It was a strange experience.

Lucky escape - unless you would have enjoyed freezing to death in the horizontal sleet! I've been on a lot of cold non-league grounds over the years but Lanehead beats them all.

Stumbled across something on social media today in regards to their fans and actually started by a North Ender.

Fair to say their fanbase were getting pelters from various other clubs fans for running around giving it large about their crowds etc.

They are a deluded bunch over the last couple of years for sure it seems instead of enjoying it after all the tough years they'd rather make empty boasts about being the best fans in the land when actually for a one club city of 400,000 their support numbers wise is poor and always has been.

I work with a long-standing Cov fan and the subject of their support came up when I saw him on Monday. He mentioned that he thinks their core support has always been poor considering the size of the city and the lack of nearby clubs to attract 'glory-hunters'. So not all Cov fans are deluded!

Kieffer Moore getting his minutes tonight

Watched on S4C and the commentators basically acknowledging he's not good enough at that level. Fluffed their best opportunity late on when he clearly had no idea what to do. Sounds like a few of our team!! On the plus side he did have the physical presence that we lack - and the way we are playing under Eustace that could have been a useful option that we just don't have

buzzing time to be a rovers fan then,we were beating everybody and went top of the table, only for the wheels to fall off after christmas😩

Was a great season for a while - particularly remember the Wolves and Carlisle away games pre-Xmas. Last game of season hoping City would slip up only for them to win 5-1

If we go down, we will not finish in the top half.

I think is a lot more likely that we will end up in the fourth tier than bouncing back and we will still have a lunatic fringe defending the owners. Where would we be without them?

I'm not sure League 1 is that strong tbh. Unless a promoted side has money to invest they seem to find it hard to step up - Rotherham, Plymouth, Peterborough as recent examples. Difference last time we went down is we probably had a squad better equipped for that level than the current squad (the likes of Graham, Bennett, etc and added Dack who was proven at that level).

What concerns me is, as you suggest I think, that the situation with the owners is different now. Last time they funded the club to make that quick return. This time feels like cost-cutting will be the only path and, as the squad is already weak, a quick return seems unlikely.

Was that the cup game at Forest on the Saturday? We won the replay at Ewood mid 80’s?

That'll be the one. I missed the replay as was on a coach heading to Europe for a field trip from Uni. Managed to hear the score on a radio and woke up the coach with a very loud broad Lancastrian 'fucking hell'!

If we had have sold him we would be favourites for relegation. He has been a big plus since he returned from injury not only with his 3 goals and 4 assists but with what else he brings. We need to get every minute we possibly can out of him whilst not allowing him to get injured. Im guessing that you couldnt bring yourself to admit that he has looked good since he came back.

Tbh it's almost irrelevant whether he has looked good or not. The reality is he is the best forward we've got in terms of current capability and the style(?) we are currently playing. Leonard may develop into a better player - who knows - but he isn't at the moment.

Shows how far we have fallen that a lot of our discussions now are whether player 'x' must be in the team because he's not quite as bad as player 'y'!!

Pragmatically, for the level we are likely to be at and with the shitshow above the manager, you are probably correct. It will keep us at this level or below for ever.

JDT offered a glimpse of something better and with the correct backing and a functional club could have achieved it.

We will never go up with this kind of pragmatism and if we did would be a laughing stock. JDT's brand would not have been a laughing stock at a higher level.

Luton went up with a high degree of pragmatism didn't they? Garth Crooks laughed at them but has had to eat humble pie. Their manager knows his players aren't good enough against the top teams so they play a way that those teams aren't equipped to deal with. Look at how many goals they score by lumping the ball into the box for the big lads. I know they'll probably come back down but doing better than Vincent's mob with their clever stuff.

Could we not reach out to the Newcastle fan base and tell them this is our Mike Ashley times a million and from a football perspective not team v team come together and help fight the biggest disease in football. If all four sides of the ground and all those fans could just give us a venkys out chant on 18 and 75 minutes or something would make massive worldwide headlines. They as fans know what it’s like going through this and let’s be honest they will be 3 up by half time .

Would be great if they would...but they are owned by an organisation with direct links to someone who is the driving force in one of the more repressive regimes on the planet with lots of human rights issues - and the bulk of their supporter base doesn't seem unduly concerned by this. My guess is their appetite to join in a protest against 'dodgy' ownership in football is likely to be fairly limited these days!! Just shows it wasn't really the 'dodginess' of Ashley that was the issue - more his unwillingness to spend any meaningful money.

This applies to the bulk of their fans - to be fair there are some of their fan base who have expressed much concern about the Saudi ownership

There were two Pughs but no Hugh.

    (Barney McGrew was the driver)

    I think we’re being sidetracked here! 😁

Just to sidetrack even further 😁 - I used to work with a salesman whose real name was Barney McGrew. We asked him if he got bored of people taking the piss.

His answer was - 'nobody ever forgets me - which is a brilliant thing for a salesman!'

I had forgotten PNE and Wolves were in the old 4th Division.

Looking at the full list 14 (I think) of those teams have either spent time out of the League or are currently out of the League.

Plus a 4th Division Cardiff / Swansea derby in the 80's - bet there was a relaxed non-violent crowd at that one!!

Eric Morcambe 1977 ITV World of Sport, iconic tune, iconic show.

On Boxing Day 1977 we beat burnley 3-2 at the morgue, its estimated over 10,000 Rovers fans attended that day. The away section was full by 2pm, Rovers fans were then directed to Bee Hole end and battles ensued.

Was on the Bee Hole end with my dad. Only 12 years old. Quite scary! Him telling me to keep quiet and look miserable!!
