    Three candidates...take your pick.

1991-92 Away at Port Vale attempting to halt a horrible slide out of the play offs. Big Rovers turn out in away end...none of the first 11 bothered. Felt like we'd blown it then.

2013 FA Cup Quarter Final replay against Millwall. As good a chance at an Cup Semi at Wembley as we are likely to get for a generation. Appletons tactics to this day baffle me, 90 minutes of long balls onto Danny Shittus head. 8,000 on at Ewood didnt help.

2022 Easter Monday, Stoke at home. Worst game ever, that's it !

I'd airbrushed that Port Vale game out of my memory. Was truly dire!!

Very good player in his day, only problem - his day wasn’t at Rovers.

Went to a Sports Quiz at the Rossendale branch of the Supporters Association. Peter White was running the quiz and fed John Radford a stream of horse racing questions. Clear where his priorities were by that stage of his career!!

Great highlights from a fantastic game. Tugay totally bossing the game and showing he was absolutely world class. This was probably one of my favourite seasons. Back in the Premier League and won the League Cup.

    Proper stuff.

VAR would have ruled out the last goal as Jansen was just offside!

Two others that spring to mind, due to having business dealings with them both are Peter Divine and Alex Binnie.

Pete lived in Darwen last time I spoke to him and Alex (real name John Alex Binnie) lives in Bacup. Alex lives with Jan Meadowcroft one of the twin daughter's of the late professional  snooker player and commentator Jim Meadowcroft.

Alex Binnie ended up playing non-league in Rossendale - definitely for Bacup Borough and possibly for the late lamented Rossendale Utd. Still can't believe the first football team I ever saw doesn't exist anymore!

It's 22 years today since Rovers greatest supporter passed away. He gave us probably the greatest day of our footballing lives and lots of other memories that will never leave us.

    RIP Jack.

My Dad died the week before Uncle Jack - so always a poignant time for me. So many shared memories between the 3 of us!

I think you've answered your own question Jack.

It was a Speedie/Shearer moment for me, having not seen much of Tugay at the time I was baffled, but that didn't last long!!

At the time my dad was fuming about Speedie / Shearer! He'd been away seeing family and hadn't seen any of the early games for Shearer and I was arguing with him about the merits of the signing. First game my dad saw Shearer play was Norwich at home. At half-time he turned to me with a big grin on his face and the words 'he'll do'! It wasn't so much the chipped goal - more the way Shearer ran through their centre-half twice to set up Wegerle's goals.

Some of us - well, okay then, me! - with no dependents to support, kind-of "collect" grounds where we're playing an away game on a ground where I've never seen us play before.

However, even when it's a new-to-me ground, I wouldn't necessarily return in following seasons to explore the neighbouring area and catch another game there. Specially when it's so comparatively far from Ewood.

Similar for me. Lots of other commitments so looking to pick off new grounds. Swansea is nearest ground to where I live but wasn't sure could make it until Saturday am. No away tickets on day so went in with the home fans. Lots of comments of how average/poor Rovers were! But plenty of their fans saying that we'd worked them out and were doing a job on them  and how their manager was so up his own arse he wouldn't change!!

Second time been in the home end at an away match and seen us score 3 goals. The other was at Turf to see the 3-2 back in the seventies....now that was interesting!!!

I was there that day. We were crap. The real game was at Bury earlier in the week, we did the business then.

Was at both games as well. The home game was Bury again wasn't it. They won but still got relegated. Always wondered if there was a bit of neighbourly 'help'?

Remember being at Gillingham after promotion at Preston. We were crap there as well!

I was gonna say (Keith) Andrews, but a quick look at the wiki suggested he didn't use him much. A closer look now though tells me it was only the last season he fell out of favour with just 5 apps, but that was probably partly cos Sam got sacked. Before then he was a fairly regular feature. Wasn't as dire as Lowe anyway, for me. Poor though for the Prem.

Biggest difference for me between Andrews and Lowe was that Andrews always put a shift in and never hid. That was sometimes to his detriment as he was clearly not good enough for the Prem!

It is a massive restriction on your rights and wouldn’t be acceptable for any o to et sector of society.

I don’t disagree but I’d rather not be treat like a criminal for wanting to watch my team so I’ll give the away fixture a miss.

Let’s be honest here - over the years plenty of fans on both sides have been attacked by the others. It isn’t a Burnley only issue. Looking at some recent press it seems, in the FL, violence is on the rise again as well.

    😳😳😳

Longsiders. Firstly it's great you come on the board and have some great points to make and some great banter. Having that balanced view was how I was able to live in the Burnley-supporting end of Rossendale for so long and have friends who supported Burnley. Lots of teasing both ways but never getting out of hand.

Totally agree it's not one team's followers better / worse than the others. Never been able to get my head round how wanting your team to beat your local rivals moves from bragging rights and mickey-taking onto wanting to physically hurt another human being.

Although clearly I take some enjoyment in Burnley's current plight, I'm of the view (along with some others on this forum) that I'd rather see the Lancashire town teams doing well than being replaced by the likes of Bournemouth and Brentford.

Good luck for the season - as long as you finish below us of course!!

I really don't know Andy. I actually think it's the safest way of getting opposition supporters in and out. Whilst it's a pain in the arse I would rather do it than read about some poor Rovers or Burnley fans who have been attacked.

Agreed. I went to the 2000 match at t'Turf. Coaches from Blackburn but you didn't have to travel with them to get a ticket. Living in Rossendale I drove over and parked up about 10 mins from the ground. By the time the police let us leave after the game those of us going back to our own transport were like sitting ducks. There were Burnley fans wandering around. In fact a family friend (who we'd always had good banter with) was later convicted of attacking a Rovers fan on a street corner - needless to say we never spoke to him again. I've never been more relieved to get back to my car!!

I think it just needs the professionalism to keep coming in.

In fairness, Earps made a genuinely terrific belly-up save just before 2-0 (or was it before the 3-0 back-heel?)

If you go back to the start of professional men's football in England then the goalkeepers would have been smaller on average than now. And there were more goals scored - not surprisingly. As goalkeepers got bigger and fitter the goals scored reduced. Interestingly the response seems to be a lighter ball so it moves around more in the air and is easier to curl / bend. You see keepers more often deceived by the flight of the ball than used to be the case. That's my theory anyway 🙂

I suspect in the women's game, as more women play and come up through the professional system, the coaches will identify likely goalkeepers and persuade them in that direction. You often hear in the men's game how professional goalkeepers started as outfield players in schools / youth football but were talent spotted as having the likely physical attributes to make a good goalkeeper.

I’ve sat/stood in every section of Ewood over many years, but my favourite place is the Riverside. It’s where I first went with my dad and grandad. One of them would lift me over the wall to sit with all the other kids. When the Darwen  End was our home section, walking through the Riverside to get to the Blackburn End at half time. Who remembers seeing the teddy bear thrown around at half time and those disgusting Gents toilets. Happy days indeed. Yes, Upside Down, you have missed out on a lot.

When first went to Ewood with my dad in the 70's started off in the Riverside stand and remember the foot stamping well. Then migrated to the BBE and then back to Riverside terracing when I was tall enough to stand near the halfway line. Still prefer to stand up when I get the chance!! Remember the half-time teddy dismembering well! Looking up at the stars from the gents during a night match was not quite enough to distract from the smell of the open air toilets 😉

Andy scored a fair few. I seem to remember him signing for £70k from Birmingham, maybe Jack signed that cheque.

He signed in '88 and I thought this pic was before his time. Also seem to remember having a mullet, but maybe I'm wrong.

If that's Simon Barker hugging Garner then I don't think he overlapped with Kennedy. Having said that - I've no better idea who the number 9 actually is!
