  1. Man it's threads like this that remind why this is easily my most long-visited site. A simple request, a great deal of interest, a stellar performance from Whittle Blue (and a great find by elwaxo) and we're all watching one of Blackburn's greatest servants at the peak of his game. I had never seen Garner play before today. I had heard stories and duly voted for him in our greatest ever team but until today it never really hit home what a fantastic player he was.

    Well done everyone.

  2. Well, it's probably been about 1.5 years since I've posted here but hey, noone's perfect. My team is currently comfortably in IV. I'm looking to push for III this season or next. My starting XI are:

    GK: GoalKeeping-World Class

    WB: Def-World Class, Wing-Solid

    CD: Def-Supernatural

    WB: Def-World Class

    W: Wing-Outstanding, PM-Excellent

    IM: PM-Supernatural

    IM: PM-Supernatural

    IM: PM-World Class, Pass-Inadequate

    W: Wing-Outstanding, PM Solid

    F: Scoring-Titanic

    F: Scoring-Supernatural

I'm training PM so they will keep improving. My biggest weakness is my wings but I have no money to upgrade them at the moment. I also need to promote a new coach as my current one is down to poor leadership (not a big deal in the lower leagues but it is important as you promote).

If anyone wants a friendly or wants to ask a question my team is Supine Rovers in Oceania. Msg me through HT as I probably check it more than here.

Hope everyone else is doing well.

  3. YESSSSSS!!!!!!!!! That was brilliant!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Australia's first goals and their first ever win at the World Cup and it was no less than we deserved. We dominated posession despite lacking imagination in attack and the brilliance of Cahill and work ethic of Kennedy and Viduka saw us home.

Japan's finishing was woeful and they could have had 5 if any of them knew how to score from a free shot at the top of the square. We'll need to be sharperer in defence against Brazil and Croatia.

Still, one of the finest moments in sporting memory for Australia.

    Just brilliant!

  4. Usually it is, but during the Uruguay games Mark Viduka was captain and I don't think that Guus will change this as it seemed to lift Viduka's game.

Notwithstanding a certain initially-heartbreaking-but-ultimately-inconsequential penalty miss.

Heartbreaking to see Vidmar out. His tears in Montevideo was one of the most poignant moments in Australian football (I regard the Iran game as easily the most painful moment).

  5. As a winger trainer - I'm loving it!  My attack ratings have stayed the same, but it is noticeable that teams which relied on their strong forwards to give them good wing attacks have suffered.

I'm into the last 16 of the Oceania Cup - my next opponent is a Premier League side.  Six time Oceania champion and twice Cup winner... I'm gonna get flogged!!

Good luck tomorrow PG, give the stirfry and his BOK @#/?s a kicking.

  6. I am having the time of my life in what was Oceania's second toughest IV last season (I (Please don't use that word again) up the average now). I've taken 9 points so far (2 wins and three draws) and should get at least another 3 points before the season's out. I will be relegated but I haven't lost any supporters so far this year (gained a few actually) and my training program is kicking ass. Life is good at planet Supine Rovers

BigA what are you training at the moment? Can I interest you in Dante Martin next season? He should hit Supernatural after ~5 games in!

    My team is

    GK: 1 x Exc and 1 x Solid

    Defenders: 1 x Exc Def/Solid Wing, 2 x Solid Def/Inad Passing, 3 x Solid Def

    Midfielders: 2 x Brill PM, 1 x Outs PM, 2 x Exc PM

    Wingers: 1 x Formid Wing/Inad PM, 1 x Exc Wing, Pass PM

    Scoring: 3 x 17yo Exc Scor, 1 x 20yo World Class Scor, 2 x 20yo Mag Scor

Coach: Defensive Minded, Solid Trainer, Wretched Leadership (but I have a future coach ready)

All players are Oceanian except 4 defenders and the three 20yo strikers.

  7. It's nice to be watching real cricket for a change!  laugh.gif

Some of the aussies fell to great deliveries, others just lost their heads and played awful shots.

The middle order of Martyn, Clarke and Katich doesn't exactly inspire confidence at the moment.  But I suppose Clarke does play for NSW so he must be fantastic right?  rolleyes.gif

PG, could you please update your Australian selection conspiracy theories. Right now we're working on the idea that the Queenslanders are unduly represented, not the New South Welshmen. biggrin.gif

Bloody great day of cricket for both sides.

  8. I'd really be interested in supernat - ex-t, ideally with quick speciality.  I doubt I'll be upgrading for some time  though, changing from keeper to defender training next season will take up most of my cash for a good while.  After that it'll be striker shopping time!

I've decided to train all 3 of my remaining original trainees to Supernatural before replacing them with Oceanians so if you are still looking in about 1.5 seasons time, I'll let you know. Dante doesn't have a Quick specialty though...

  9. You're a fool newtodd. A very good friend of mine used to work herself to the bone to keep her place in the Matildas (Australian national team). I watched her play on a number of occasions and it was always exciting and always high quality. It was better than men's football in some respectsas the girls tended to play really a slower, skillful and more aggressive game than the men and there was a greater opportunity to watch the play build up.

Surely even a knuckle-dragging moron like yourself would at least appreciate the aesthetic pleasure of watching fit women play the worlds greatest game.

  10. But be careful American, you can't sell a player that you make into a coach so don't chuck one of your gun trainees in there.

Coaches can still play and age doesn't matter.  They just need to have at least solid XP to be made into a solid coach.

If I were to train defence I'd play 4-4-2 in the league with a young midfielder as an offensive centre back and then a 5-x-x (probably 5-3-2) in the cup and friendlies.

  11. Training defenders in a 3-5-2 formation is a waste of 4 training spots per week okie, don't do it.

I achieved auto-promotion and I am now in IV.32, the SECOND-HARDEST GODDAMN DIV IV IN OCEANIA!!! Seriously, there are guys pulling excellent midfields when they PIC! I am totally screwed but at least I have made a lot of progress in rebuilding my team.

Read my current news announcement if you fancy a giggle.

    Supine Rovers.

  12. Leftwinger Staying down is better. I'd only promote if I knew I could get at least fourth place in the next league. Otherwise all your fans will leave, you'll lose money because you can't get enough supporters to games, and you'll be relegated.

I'm going to win my league as well but I need to throw a game to make sure I don't get an auto-promotion spot.

Good luck later on today BigA.

  13. Nice work Okie, a season of constructive rebuilding is paying off. Good luck in the cup Big A, it's always nice to see a couple of home wins to set up the huge match against the top team.

As for me, we skinned the top team 0-1 to take the lead in V.200. That game was the absolute season-maker for my div so if my luck holds I just might nick off with title. Check me out if you feel so inclined (Supine Rovers - 417804). Some injuries to my trainees have been frustrating but I still have them all on outstanding or better.

Can't wait till I switch training next season.
