  1. I can definitely recommend downloading Fez on the Xbox. It's a retro-looking 2D platform / exploration game where the levels are built around four sides of a cube, which you can rotate to rearrange the platforms and find new routes. Very clever. I didn't think I'd like it, as the reviews (all 9's and 10's) made it sound totally pretentious, like Braid or something, but it's actually pretty simple. Best Xbox Live Arcade game since Stacking, I'd say.

  2. I'd like to add Rrradio Gee to the list of great things at Glasto. They play in a little van in a corner of the theatre field, after all the main bands have finished. Belting Irish covers and some original stuff, brilliant musicians. Saw them on Friday, went back the next two nights for more.

Faithless were awesome on the Pyramid. Florence did a great show on the other stage, shame the mic broke towards the end and she did an entire song with no vocals.

    My feet are destroyed.

  3. The new Battlefield is great. Much slower pace than MW2, lots more to do, and better focused - you don't get so many people ignoring the objectives and just racking up kills.

It's got brilliant helicopters that hardly anyone knows how to fly properly. I was in a game the other day, zooming around on a jet ski, when one of my team's copters took off from the base, skimmed over my head, sideways, and plowed into the water. Quadruple suicide!

Another time I was watching a copter hovering over a hill and suddenly all these people started falling out of it, bouncing off the rocks below. Then it caught fire and exploded.

Brilliant fun. You get proper teamwork - people will come and revive you or drop ammo packs, fix your vehicle and so on.

  4. If you've got an Xbox 360 I can recommend Chime. You have to 'paint' the playing area with shapes to make tunes play - five songs from Moby, Paul Hartnoll, Phillip Glass, bloke from Lemon Jelly and some European dance guy.

If you liked Tetris or Lumines, it's a bit of a cross between those two, with a lot of unique things of its own. Slight but addictive. I wasn't expecting to like it much but I load it up for one game and I'm still playing an hour later.

Hopefully it will be on other formats soon enough, but for now it's on xbox live arcade, it's only 400 points (about £3.50) and the money goes to charity. Download it now!

  5. Has anyone tried Multiwinia? It's not such a new game, since it was out on PC a few months ago, but I just got the recent Mac version and it totally rocks. You don't need a fast computer to play it, either.

It's a sort of arcade strategy deathmatch thing where you capture bases and direct streams of hundreds of little dudes to beat down the enemy. Like an abstract C&C except with no building, no resources and very fast and frantic.

It's only a tenner as well, and there's a free demo. No, I don't work for them :)

  6. Riddick - run of the mill FPS game. Feels dated when you stand it next to Killzone/Cod 4 and the like (to be honest I am sure it was out on the original xbox) Nothing to say about it really - may be worth a £10 purchase on a rainy sunday afternoon.

Riddick is ace! The demo shows nothing. On Xbox it was years ahead of its time. Give it a chance, this is basically a HD remake with an expansion pack thrown in.

It's brilliantly atmospheric, it's the only FP game where stealth and hand-to-hand combat is as good as guns, it has the most satisfying final level of any game I've played and it's also Vin Diesel's best acting performance.

If you write it off because it's not another whizz-bang shooting gallery like COD, you're completely missing the point of one of the best, most original first person games ever made.

  7. I'm finding Fallout extremely tedious. Only played a few hours and maybe I'm doing something wrong but its impossible to kill things. The guns are either weak and do no damage or its impossible to hit. All the while whatever thing you are fighting always hits, always does major damage and always attack in numbers.

Means you waste tons of ammo and health pack for no good.

I ended up with more ammo and health packs than I could ever use. Try avoiding fights with tough enemies until you're a higher level. Do the wasteland survival guide missions. Invest XP in small guns to improve your accuracy and medicine to improve the effectiveness of health packs.

  8. I completely missed this announcement for Fallout 3 the other week:

Three downloadable content packs will be coming to Xbox 360 and Games for Windows Live starting in January that will add new quests, items, and content to Fallout 3.

    • Operation: Anchorage. Enter a military simulation and fight in one of the greatest battles of the Fallout universe – the liberation of Anchorage, Alaska from its Chinese Communist invaders. An action-packed battle scheduled for release in January.

    • The Pitt. Journey to the industrial raider town called The Pitt, located in the remains of Pittsburgh. Choose your side. Scheduled for release in February.

    • Broken Steel. Join the ranks of the Brotherhood of Steel and rid the Capital Wasteland of the Enclave remnants once and for all. Continues the adventure past the main quest. Scheduled for release in March.

Great news, as I was considering starting the game again with a new character now that I finished it. I'll buy all of those. Doesn't say anything about PS3, though - maybe for the best if the comments earlier about that version are accurate.

  9. Don't worry about Street Fighter - it's really rough looking in HD. The sprites are sharper than in the original game but on a HD telly they look no better than you probably remember the originals. The animation is very, very poor. Wait for SF4 - it's not far away, it's basically the same game but with more moves, and it looks fantastic. Played the Xbox version and the arcade one, they're identical. PS3 version should be the same.

  10. Prince of Persia - click

Above is the new Prince of Persia trailer now. It confuses me because from what I understand its not going to look like this at all but will have the kind of Street Fighter 4/Okami painting type graphics (which I have never really liked) From the trailer though we can see that you will be able to play as a girl with some sort of powers. The prince has a claw that enables him to scale building easier than before - from what I have been reading it will be Assasins Creed on speed.

I went to that announcement! Just got back last night. The female character is controlled by the computer, they didn't say anything about letting you play as her.

The best game they showed was Far Cry 2. It looks brilliant - you can sneak up on villages and camps, let rip with a machine gun and blow it all to splinters. Set a fire in the grass downwind and watch it take hold and blaze through the buildings. They had it on PS3, Xbox and PC. Equally nice on all formats, which makes a change.
