  1. Rovers once again dominated a game and came away no points as they were frustrated at home by a lacklustre Newcastle side. Rovers created the vast majority of chances, including missing a penalty, but went down to a heavy deflection and a late goal on the break. The match got off to a quick start and was fairly even until Newcastle took the lead in the 12th minute when Taylor's 25-yard effort took a wicked deflection off Dann and left Robinson to watch helplessly as the ball bounced into the corner with the Rovers 'keeper wrong-footed. Despite going a goal behind, it was the home side that took control after the goal and nearly equalised moments later when Givet's effort was cleared off the line. Petrovic went close with a volley, Modeste went close and Best headed against his own bar from a corner, but Rovers' best chance came when Modeste was bundled over in the box and Phil Dowd awarded a penalty. Dunn stepped up to take it, but saw his effort saved by Krul. Rovers started the second half where they had left off in the first and were quickly on top. Modeste appeared to not realise how much time he had when he shot early when through on goal, before Dann then tamely headed into the arms of Krul when he should have done far better from Pedersen's free-kick. As the game dragged on, Rovers continued to press and Formica and Givet both missed great chances to equalise before Newcastle wrapped up the three points in the dying minutes of the match when Rovers pushed forward and were hit on the break. Obertan just beat the offside trap on the halfway line and calmly slid the ball past Robinson into the far corner. Rovers will be delighted with the performance, but will be wondering exactly how they failed to score in a match when they had over 30 attempts at goal and missed several glorious opportunities, notably the Dunn penalty in the first half. 2. Rovers make only one change to the side that drew 1-1 with Everton, with Anthony Modeste making his full debut, coming in for David Goodwillie, who misses out due to illness. Blackburn Rovers Robinson, Lowe, Dann, Givet, Olsson, Hoilett, Petrovic, Dunn, Nzonzi, Pedersen, Modeste Substitutes: Bunn, Formica, Slew, Vukcevic, Hanley, Henley, Rochina Newcastle United Krul, Santon, Coloccini, Williamson, Simpson, Gutierrez, Guthrie, Taylor, Ben Arfa, Best, Ameobi Substitutes: Elliott, Lovenkrands, Abeid, Perch, Gosling, Obertan, Ferguson View full article
  3. Everton took the lead in controversial circumstances when Fellaini appeared to use his arm to control the ball before it fell to Cahill to smash home from only a couple of yards out. It had been Rovers who had started the better, dominating possession and Everton struggled to get out of their own half. Dann went close with a looping header from a Pedersen corner, but the best chance fell to Dunn after good work from Hoilett on the left allowed the Canadian to roll the ball into the path of Dunn inside the Everton box, but the midfielder's shot failed to seriously test Howard. Everton pressed forward after the goal, but Rovers gradually regained the ascendancy and went very close to an equaliser when Goodwillie's shot was deflected into the path of Dunn and his sweetly timed first-time volley flew past Howard only to hit the inside of the post and roll away to safety. Little changed after the half-time whistle and the away side continued to pour men forward and dominate possession and Rovers equalised in somewhat comical fashion when Howard failed to claim Pedersen's free-kick from just inside the Everton half and Tim Cahill smacked his goal-line clearance against Goodwillie. New loan-signing Anthony Modeste replaced the goalscorer shortly after, but despite continued pressure it was Everton that nearly snatched the three points right at the end of the match. First Paul Robinson produced a good save to push away Fellaini's header and from the ensuing corner Rovers somehow managed to get in the way of three close-range attempts and clear the ball. The point was a good one for Rovers, although they will feel as if they easily could have won and will undoubtedly be unhappy with the decision to allow Everton's goal to stand. Results in other matches mean that Rovers stay out of the relegation zone on goal difference, but QPR's win against Wigan moves them two points ahead of Rovers and up into 16th. View full article
  4. Rovers trail at half-time following a controversial opening goal from Tim Cahill. David Dunn and Scott Dann have hit the woodwork and Rovers have gone close on several occasions, but so far have nothing to show for their good play. It was the away side that started the better and Rovers soon had Everton on the back foot and penned in their own half. Rovers constantly threatened and went close to taking the lead when Scott Dann's looping header came back off the crossbar, but it was Dunn who wasted their best chance when he failed to really test Howard after great work from Hoilett on the left. Despite the constant pressure, it was Everton that took the lead against the run of play after Rovers had failed to clear a corner. Donovan put the ball back into the box and Fellaini appeared to control the ball with his arm before Cahill fired home from close range. There were immediate protests from the away team, but the goal stood. The goal completely changed the flow of the game, but Rovers went excruciatingly close to levelling things up when Goodwillie's shot was deflected into the path of David Dunn and his first-time volley came back off the inside of the post with Howard beaten. 5. An injury time free kick from Morten Gamst Pedersen has given Rovers a half-time lead at home to Fulham. Rovers were reduced to 10 men when Yakubu was sent off for a reckless challenge on Danny Murphy, but despite dominating possession Fulham were not able to turn their pressure into a goal. It has been a half of few chances, but the talking points will certainly be the decision to send Yakubu off in the 23rd minute. The Rovers' forward certainly went in high, but there appeared to be few serious complaints from the Fulham players and a general sense of surprise when the Nigerian was shown a red card. Fulham had hit the woodwork shortly before the dismissal, but apart from that have only seriously tested Paul Robinson on one occasion. It looked as if Rovers would go into the half pleased to be level, but they were awarded a free kick deep into first-half injury time and Pedersen made no mistake when bending the ball into the corner with the last kick of the half. 6. Rovers continued the trend of blowing a lead and losing in stoppage time as they were dumped out of the FA Cup by Newcastle United. The home side had dominated the opening proceedings, but it was Blackburn who took the lead when Krul could only parry Hanley's header and Goodwillie was in the right place at the right time to fire home for his second goal in as many games. Newcastle United continued to press in the second half and got back on level terms when Ben Arfa beat several players before firing home from the edge of the area. Despite the continued pressure it looked as if the match was headed for a replay, but with injury time running out Gutierrez finished off a neat Newcastle move by clipping the ball over Bunn. 7. Rovers have dropped to bottom of the table following a home defeat to Bolton. Bolton went in to the half-time break two goals to the good after they dominated the first 45 minutes. Davies put the away side ahead only 5 minutes into the match and, after continued pressure, they doubled their lead through Reo-Coker. Blackburn started the second half with more pace and energy, but despite considerable possession and several decent chances they were only able to pull one goal back thanks to Yakubu's cool finish. Fans reacted angrily to the goals and the full-time whistle and it increases the pressure on Rovers' boss Steve Kean. The win saw Bolton move above Blackburn and Wanderers' boss Owen Coyle will be pleased with the vital win. View full article
  8. Blackburn Rovers and West Brom head into the half-time interval level after a scoreless first-half at Ewood Park. It was the away side that started more brightly and they dominated most of the early possession, but Rovers gradually worked their way into the game and looked increasingly dangerous as the half wore on. There have been few chances for either side in a game that has largely been played in the middle of the park, but both teams will feel that they have every chance of winning the match. 9. Blackburn Rovers picked up only their second league win of the season thanks to four goals from Yakubu. The home side will feel that they were well worth the three points, although there were plenty of nervy moments for Rovers supporters. Rovers took the lead on 20 minutes when Givet cut the ball back to Yakubu, who expertly guided the ball into the top corner. Blackburn continued to press, but Swansea hit back against the run of play when Lita's firm header went in off the post. The game evened out, but just before half-time Rovers retook the lead when Simon Vukcevic, who had come on only minutes earlier for the injured Rochina, volleyed a corner back across goal for Yakubu to head home. Rovers doubled their lead in the 57th minute from another set-piece, with Samba knocking down Pedersen's corner and Yakubu providing the finish to complete his hat-trick. It looked for a while as if that had wrapped up the three points, but Swansea got themsleves back into the match when Robinson could only parry Routledge's shot into the path of Luke Moore. If anything, it looked as if Swansea were going to grab the equaliser, but the away side were reduced to 10 men when Joe Allen was sent off for a second bookable offence and, shortly after, Simon was brought down in the box and Yakubu stepped up to seal the win and grab his fourth goal of the match. The win lifts Rovers off the bottom of the table, but despite the result a considerable number of supporters stayed behind after the final whistle to call for the sacking of Steve Kean. 10. Blackburn deservedly lead at the break following a good first half at home to Swansea. Rovers took the lead on the 20-minute mark when Givet found space on the over-lap before cutting the ball back across the box to Yakubu who side-footed a wonderful finish into the top corner. Givet nearly doubled the lead only moments later, but his header was well saved by Vorm. The home side continued to dominate, but against the run of play Swansea equalised when Leroy Lita headed in off the post, giving Paul Robinson no chance in the Blackburn goal. Blackburn retook the lead right on the stroke of half-time when substitute Simon Vukcevic volleyed back across goal for Yakubu to head into an empty net. View full article

  12. Blackburn and Wigan fought out an exciting draw at the DW Stadium this afternoon. Substitute Albert Crusat had looked as if he had fired home the winner with little time remaining, but Rovers secured a point when Yakubu slotted home a penalty after Paul Robinson had been fouled having come up for a corner. The away side had taken the lead only 66 seconds into the match when Yakubu latched onto a defensive mistake by Gary Caldwell and dinked the ball over Al Habsi. Wigan were only behind for a matter of minutes as Jordi Gomez fired the home side level from just outside of the area. There was some controversy surrounding the goal as it appeared as if a retreating Wigan player had obstructed Robinson's view from an offside position. Rovers nearly retook the lead when Pedersen's well-struck free-kick hit the post with Al Habsi beaten, but shortly after it was the home side that went ahead when Gary Caldwell found himself unmarked to head home a corner and atone for his earlier lapse in concentration. After the break Rovers' task was made even more difficult when David Dunn was shown a red card for his second bookable offence, but the away side levelled in the 59th through David Hoilett. It appeared as if Pedersen dribbled straight from the corner, but there were no appeals from the Wigan players and the goal stood. Wigan looked to have grabbed the winner when Crusat latched on to Rodellaga's lay-off to score from 20 yards, but Rovers sent every man forward for a corner deep into injury time and it was Paul Robinson who was fouled. Yakubu coolly scored the penalty and the match ended in a dramatic draw. The point means that both sides remain in the bottom two spots in the league and it is unlikely that the draw will have done much to relieve the pressure on Steve Kean. View full article
  13. Rovers took the lead only 66 seconds into the half when Gary Caldwell's mistake allowed Yakubu in behind the Wigan defence and the Nigerian's shot managed to creep into the corner of the net. Only five minutes in the home side had a strong shout for the penalty, but if they felt aggrieved, they wouldn't be behind for long as only two minutes later the ball dropped to Gomez on the edge of the area and his quick strike wrong-footed Robinson and found its way into the bottom corner. There were suspicions of offside as it appeared that a retreating player had obstructed Robinson's view. Rovers nearly retook the lead when Pedersen's free-kick hit the post when it had Al Habsi beaten, but it was Wigan who went ahead when Caldwell made up for his early mistake by heading home a corner. The Scottish international did well to get power and accuracy on the header from far out, but questions will have to be asked about how much space the defender had. Rovers have had long spells of possession, but have failed to create any chances and Wigan have looked far more threatening when they have gone forward. View full article

  15. Rovers and Chelsea go in level at the break after a first half where Chelsea have dominated possession, but where the home side have often looked dangerous. Chelsea started brightly, but it was Rovers who created the first real chance of the half. Hoilett slipped Formica in behind the Chelsea defence and the Argentinian unselfishly squared the ball to Yakubu, but the Rovers' striker shot wide when he really should have done better. Cech was hurt in the process, but the goalkeeper was able to continue despite initial fears that it could be a serious injury. Chelsea felt they should have had a penalty when Sturridge went down in the area after getting goal-side of Samba, but Mike Reid saw nothing and pointed for a goalkick. The away side bossed possession, but Rovers continue to look threatening when they get forward. Christopher Samba had to go off just before half-time with what looks to be a hamstring injury. The Rovers' captain was replaced by Grant Hanley. Whist the football was entertaining, it is quite possible that the biggest talking-point will be the "Steve Kean Out" banner that was flown over the ground during the first half. The club had prohibited the use of banners either before or during the match, but the plane will not have gone unnoticed. View full article
  16. Rovers name an unchanged side from the one that drew 3-3 away to Norwich last weekend. Blackburn Rovers Robinson, Lowe, Samba, Givet, Olsson, Rochina, Nzonzi, Pedersen, Hoilett, Formica, Yakubu Subs: Bunn, Dunn, Petrovic, Blackman, Goodwillie, Vukcevic, Hanley Chelsea Cech, Ivanovic, Alex, Terry, Cole, Ramires, Mikel, Lampard, Mata, Sturridge, Malouda Subs: Turnbull, Romeu, Torres, Meireles, Bosingwa, Lukaku, Kalou View full article
  17. For the second time in a week Rovers will be wondering how they didn't win a game that they led by two goals with only minutes to spare. Both sides threatened in the first half, but it wasn't until injury time that Hoilett broke the deadlock for Rovers. He cut in from the wing and danced around several Norwich defenders before firing an unstoppable shot into the top corner of the net. Norwich were level shortly after the break when the ball fell to Steve Morison in the box and the midfielder's volley left Robinson with no chance. The Rovers' keeper was called into action only moments later and saved well to deny Bradley Johnson. Norwich looked on top, but Yakubu muscled his way through the Norwich defence before firing past John Ruddy. The Norwich keeper will probably felt that he should have saved it, but a minute later he was helpless when Christopher Samba slid in to head home Morten Gamst Pedersen's free-kick. That looked to have wrapped the three points up for Rovers, but Norwich were handed a lifeline when Bradley Johnson's shot took a wicked deflection off Jason Lowe and looped over Paul Robinson in the Rovers' goal. The game then ended in controversy when Norwich were awarded a penalty deep into injury time for a handball by Steven Nzonzi. The decision looked harsh, but Grant Holt made no mistake from the spot to pull Norwich level and see the home side get a share of the spoils. View full article
  18. Rovers go into the break 1-0 up thanks to a wonderful individual goal from Junior Hoilett. It had looked as though the sides would go in level, but as time ran out in injury time of the first half the Rovers' winger beat two Norwich defenders on the edge of the box before firing an unstoppable shot into the top corner. Formica went close early on with a powerful shot from outside the area, before then slipping a delicate pass through to Yakubu, who fired high and wide. At the other end Fox tested Robinson from distance, with the Rovers' keeper getting down well. There was a nasty collision between Givet and Pedersen, but thankfully neither player was seriously injured and both have been able to continue. View full article
  19. Rovers go into the break level after an entertaining first half at Ewood Park. Spurs started brightly and took the lead in the 15th minute when Walker beat Givet for pace before finding van der Vaart, and the Dutchman's first-time finish gave Robinson no chance of making a save. Blackburn responded well and equalised in the 27th when Formica slammed home a half-volley from 12 yards after Samba's header had dropped to him. View full article
  20. Morten Gamst Pedersen returns to the side after missing out last week through injury, whilst summer signing Simon Vukcevic makes his full league debut. Blackburn Rovers Robinson, Lowe, Samba, Givet, Olsson, Vukcevic, Nzonzi, Pedersen, Hoilett, Roberts, Formica Subs: Bunn, Petrovic, Slew, Rochina, Yakubu, Goodwillie, Hanley Tottenham Hotpur Friedel, Walker, Kaboul, Bassong, Assou-Ekotto, Lennon, Parker, Modric, Bale, Van der Vaart, Adebayor Subs: Cudicini, Pavlyuchenko, Defoe, Rose, Livermore, Sandro, Townsend View full article
  21. Rovers go into the break level with QPR after an entertaining first half at Loftus Road. After an even opening spell to the game the home side took the lead on 16 minutes when Helguson's ball back across the goal drifted into the far corner. Rovers hit back quickly when Samba headed home Lowe's corner in the 24th minute. View full article
  22. A diabolical second-half performance saw Rovers slip to a 4-0 defeat at home to Manchester City. The sides had gone in level at half-time, but Rovers collapsed after the break and were emphatically beaten by a City side that could have scored more. Adam Johnson opened the scoring with a wonderful curling effort from just outside the box, before Balotelli, Nasri and Savic would add to Rovers' misery. The performance of Junior Hoilett will have been one of the few positives for the home side, but will be little consolation following a performance where the second-half defending can best be described as school-boy and amateurish. There was noticeable anti-Kean chanting and pressure continues to grow on the Rovers boss. View full article
  23. Rovers and City are level at the break following a fairly even first half in which both sides threatened. Manchester City have had the majority of possession and have created several good chances, but have failed to seriously test Paul Robinson. Despite having only 34% possession Rovers have still managed to look dangerous on the break, with Junior Hoilett and Yakubu linking up well. Manchester City were forced into an early change when Sergio Aguerro went off injured in the 27th minute. View full article
  24. Martin Olsson replaces Rochina in the line-up for Rovers in an otherwise unchanged side from the team that beat Arsenal last weekend. Newcastle United Krul, Simpson, Steven Taylor, Coloccini, Ryan Taylor, Obertan, Cabaye, Tiote, Gutierrez, Ba, Best Subs: Harper, Guthrie, Ben Arfa, Lovenkrands, Perch, Marveaux, Sammy Ameobi Blackburn Rovers Robinson, Salgado, Samba, Givet, Dann, Hoilett, Lowe, Nzonzi, Olsson, Formica, Yakubu Subs: Bunn, Grella, Petrovic, Rochina, Vukcevic, Roberts, Hanley View full article
  25. Rovers slumped to a 3-1 defeat at Villa Park in a match where the home side always looked comfortable. Aston Villa took the lead 12 minutes into the match when Agbonlahor beat Salgado on the left-hand side and cut into the box before curling an effort into the far corner past a stranded Robinson. The home side then doubled their lead in the 25th minute thanks to Heskey's 20-yard strike. Robinson could do little about the first, but will be disappointed that he failed to save the former England striker's weak effort. Pedersen gave Rovers hope when he timed his run well to head home Hoilett's cross from close range, but the home side restored their two-goal lead when Hanley's block fell into the path of Bent and the Villa striker fired past Robinson. Petrovic made his debut when brought on in the 75th minute, but Rovers failed to create any chances in the closing stages and Aston Villa never looked troubled. View full article
