Blackburn's campaign has got off to a losing start following a 2-1 home defeat to Wolves. The opening match started with David Hoilett nearly putting Rovers in front and the home side would take the lead on 20 minutes thanks to Formica's controlled finish, only for Fletcher to rise above Salgado at the far post to head Wolves level just 90 seconds later. Salgado's day would go from bad to worse when he clumsily brought down Jarvis at the start of the second half. Robinson guessed the right way and saved the penalty, but Rovers failed to clear the ball properly and Stephen Ward showed good technique to volley into the corner. As the match continued Rovers tried to draw level, with substitutes Rochina and Goodwillie both shooting narrowly wide, but the match petered out and Wolves comfortably saw out the final few minutes to claim the spoils. Blackburn and Wolves are level at half-time following an interesting first half at Ewood Park. David Hoilett nearly put Rovers ahead early in the game, but his far post effort was just kept out by Wolves' keeper Wayne Hennessey, but Blackburn's frustration didn't last long as Mauro Formica put them ahead on 20 minutes. The Argentine was slipped through by Jason Roberts and made it a dream debut when he coolly shot across Hennessey and into the far corner. A 20th minute Martin Olsson strike has given Rovers a 1-0 lead at the break. Both sides have had chances and it looks as if there will be more goals in the second half, but, for the time being at least, Rovers hold the advantage.
