  1. Mark Venus coming back is worrying

I have always had a real sneaking suspicion that the housing development plan did not die as it was portrayed

You feel as though Venus was involved in that. Although, I admit that is just a wild leap and not based on any inside knowledge

There's currently another situation in which a cash grab can be excused. Waggott embedding himself in with his old mates like Park and Venus tells me he is here for the long-haul. In that respect, everybody should be wary of new plans to develop on Brockhall

  2. Where Leonard differs from strikers like Vale, or even Gallagher, is that he got in goal scoring positions consistently. His finishing was then impressive at times but by the fact you've got in that position to begin with shows a natural ability.

Gallagher can go entire games without ever looking like scoring. That never really happened for Leonard

I think there's a player in there and a loan to a L1 team might do him some good. I don't think we can afford to do that though. He is required here as back up

I do find articles like this a bit galling. One measly mention of Rovers, whereas "much of the credit for Wharton’s rapid progression must go to Glasner".

In general, all of this talk as if the 'genius' recruitment team at Palace plucked another gem out of nowhere is just very annoying.

I know I'm also just bitter.

What a crap article that is. Some people will read that as a matter of fact. Wow.

White has burned his bridges with England so he can sling his hook. Tomori apparently isn't good enough on the ball for Southgate

Lewis Dunk isn't the best on the ball is he!!

I would bring Ben White back in when Southgate goes. Trippier hasn't gone long left and Kyle Walker is 33 so probably both of their last tournaments. White can play right back very well.

  5. You'd imagine that Brainthwaite and Trafford are sure fire to not go. I don't think he will take Jarrod Bowen either.

One of Quansah, Guehi or Dunk will go.

Up top I'd say Ivan Toney will be dropped.

Unfortunately, I think the last one to go will be Wharton

I think it is surprising he has named Guehi and Dunk over Tomori. He does not rate him whatsoever or can't be arsed to go to Italy

Glad that Rashford and Henderson have been dropped but a bit of a strange squad overall.

8 centre backs and only 1 left back who himself is unlikely to make it shows the imbalance, and 6 of the centre backs are likely competing to be understudy to calamity Maguire.

We also look thin in midfield with Wharton (who will probably be cut) and Mainoo having potentially a huge responsibility on them.

We have a number of injured players, players out of form and players not playing often.

Maguire has been anything but a calamity for England

  7. Wharton, Eze and Brainthwaite in

    Henderson left out

There is a real touch of class about Wharton. What a crying shame we will never see the best of him. Here's hoping his career lasts longer than the Venkys do here and we get to see him in our colours again. If he makes the full Euros squad it is going to be a real joy watching one of our own in an England shirt

  8. I honestly didn’t think it was a matter for debate that Mowbray left this club better than he found it

It was time to go, for sure. He showed his limitations and you felt we had reached that glass ceiling. But he did well for Rovers and I’ll always remember him fondly

Also this is the biggest load of nonsense I’ve seen on this messageboard in a while. Up there with Chaddy levels of delusion!

Okay but you’ve just beaten it with this

Tony Mowbray did a brilliant job as Rovers manager. We were very close to capitalising on that by bringing in a better more ambitious younger coach. I don’t think it can be denied that Mowbray set the foundations for that season under JDT

Anyway, football is obviously a game of opinions. You are allowed yours I suppose

Dack had been out injured for 2 years basically and as he has shown since he is not a Championship level player (probably not even League 1 now sadly) and I think it is fair to say we found a better player in Szmodics. Ayala was injury prone, overpaid and well past his best as has been shown by the fact that the might of Rotherham released him this season.

But Brereton was never going to sign a contract and be here beyond the end of it. And the decision to lose him for nothing rather than sold for a fee I suspect went above Broughton.

None of that speaks for the experience they brought to the team

Ayala was a very experienced head. Twice the player McFadzean is. We lost that influence in the dressing room and never replaced him

Same with Dack. It was clear he was a big player in the dressing room and is sorely missed

Within a quick space of time we went from having a nice balanced team with youth and experience in equal measure, to a team sorely lacking in leadership. Nevertheless, JDT made that team purr at times. Mowbray left this club in a good state. Within two years that lot let it go to waste whilst also driving out the best manager we’ve had in an awful long time

  11. 1 hour ago, Ewood Ace said:

Which was what exactly? Five players were on loan and went back to their parent clubs, the club captain went on a free along with two other regular starters and the biggest asset at the club had one year left on his contract and was clearly not going to sign a new one.

I don't think Broughton did a great job (far from it in fact) but let's not pretend that he inherited anything special.

The first team players we had when he came in were.

    Kaminski

    Pears

    Carter

    Ayala

    S.Wharton

    Pickering

    A. Wharton (Was yet to play for first team)

    Buckley

    JRC

    Travis

    Hedges

    Edun

    Dack

    Brereton

    Gallagher

    Dolan

    Vale

The team that JDT inherited came from Tony Mowbray. We had the experience of Kaminski, Dack and Ayala to all call on. Carter had come on leaps and bounds under Mowbray and JDT really felt the benefit of that

Plus Brereton, who Mowbray stuck with and nurtured despite all of the criticism he was getting

It's in no doubt that Mowbray left this club in a much better state than when he found it. When JDT came it was like a breath of fresh air, but the foundations on which that season was built on were laid by Mowbray. That is all gone now. We lost what we had and never replaced them properly. The level of experience we have managed to lose since those days is frightening

  12. There are a lot of ready-made excuses for Broughton. Yet, it all boils down to one thing for me - the team is in a worse place than when he found it. Everything that Tony Mowbray had achieved has gone to wreck and ruin. The only positive is that in doing so it has generated a lot of income for Rovers. It isn't Broughton's fault that he wasn't allowed to spend it

The Lewis O'Brien fiasco probably cost the man his career as a Director of Football. I don't believe for one instance that was his fault. I really do believe he had conspiring forces against him. None more so than Steve Waggott. The behaviour towards the end of JDT and Broughton was quite spectacular - pulling the fans in to meet the players. It really was a show of force from Waggott. For me, it was the end of a promising spell for the club

The players he has brought in has been a real mixed bag. Some of the better players include Tronstad, Szmodics, Hyam. He brought in some astute loans in Morton and James Hill. Then the flip sides: Mola and Koumetio spring to mind. I don't judge Broughton quite as badly as others for Hirst, as he has gone on to show he can cut in the league.

I liked how he acted quickly to move Ennis on. It was probably a gamble worth taking. He never cut the mustard and GB recognised that early on. We never replaced him though and that for me was a mistake.

As I started this post with - before I rambled - Broughton's tenure here has been a real mixed bag but for me will be judged on how he has left us. We have "cash to burn", or so you should think owing the revenue he brought in on player trading, but the squad itself is now down to the bare bones. We have lost all the experience and nous that Mowbray's Rovers squad had. To underline all of that, it is clear Broughton never truly understood how things work at Rovers. Mowbray did. He knew that if you sold a player, you were unlikely to get the money back to reinvest. He never lived by "the model". Broughton tried to. His biggest mistake was ever believing that the Venkys were sincere in their approach and that cost him his job

Think there are two points for consideration:

    • Come 31 August, our owners legally may no longer be in a position to continuing further funding for Rovers
    • Consider extracts from the accounts for year ending 30 June 2023:
    1. Strategic report - the directors have prepared cash flow forecasts through to June 2027 and "the company will require significant funding in addition to current facilities available to the company"
    2. Strategic report - the ultimate parent company "has confirmed it will not recall the amount outstanding of £123,052,900, included in creditors due in less than one year, within twelve months from the date of approval of these financial statements".  This therefore ends this calendar year.
    3. Auditors report - "a material uncertainty exists that may cast significant doubt on the company's ability to continue as a going concern".  Relates to the ultimate parent company's ability to remit funds to its overseas subsidiaries.
    4. Bank overdraft facility (at £15million in accounts) expired 10 May 2024 - would think the ongoing Indian court case will have cause some discomfort with the bank.  Banks do not lend money, even if they are secured, if they think there is a serious question mark against a company's solvency.

IMO, there is a chance Rovers will enter insolvency before the calendar year is out especially if the court case goes the 'wrong way' and the Raos decide to cut and run and claw back what they can from, IMO, one sorry mess.

Good luck if that gives you any warmth and reassurance!

It is probably the first time you are right on this one

To be honest, a lot of this will depend on how friendly they are with Modi’s government. If they are allies with him and more important his henchman Shah then they will probably ride it out

If they have any enemies inside the BJP then expect them to be punished. Although, them being Hindu already helps them in that regard

I really do hope the August case goes against them. It is probably our best chance to get rid of them. The BJP don’t play by the normal rules, and neither do Venkys, so here’s hoping there’s a silver lining for the town of Blackburn in all of the crap going on over there

  14. I would have to see the deal before passing judgement on Fleck

In a normal club, you’d expect a pay as you play type arrangement, with him coaching as a “day job”

We will wait and see. His injuries are a real worry. But he was some midfielder in his day and lads like Garrett and Buckley could do a lot worse than watch and learn from him in training

I swear when this Saudi shambles started some of AJ's fights were on by 10.20pm.

But maybe my mind playing tricks.

Was the only part I was fully on board with.

Now I have to put with the shit atmosphere and a shit time.

    I think it’s crap

A childhood memory is being woken up at silly o’clock to see Mayweather v Hatton. None of this crazy production beforehand from what I can remember. Nothing wrong with Michael Buffer stood in the middle calling out the boxers. They are out America-ing the Americans here……

Why the hell do they drag this so late?

Almost 1am in Saudi. Getting late in UK. New York 6pm.

Get the bloody fights on earlier.

They'll piss on with songs, elaborate ring walks etc for 45 mins after this bout.

Genuinely don’t understand it. More ad revenue breaks?!

We have to fanny on 4am/5am get ups for Vegas fights. This seems pretty perfect time for EVERYONE- 3pm in LA so football kick off time.

    It's boiling my blood.

    Tell me about it

Came back up to Blackburn to watch this with my old man. After a day in the sun he couldn’t be arsed to stay out. Now the old git has gone to bed….could have stayed at home and saved him £25

At least I got to see a good days cricket down Cherry Tree 🍺

Yeah seeing that on social media myself. I always thought Cordina’s trainer was Joe Gallagher. Can’t say I follow boxing as much as I used to. One of the most corrupt sports in the world for a reason….. 😂

    What a ridiculous statement.

Shows how little you understand about what has gone on at this club.

Behave yourself. Parsonblue can speak for himself, but it is clear he has been supporting this club for many a year through thick and thin. He’s been posting on this site for years and is contributions have been excellent

To be fairly honest you are quite a terrible poster. I am not against a swear word, but your posts are both ladened with expletives and clearly lacking the awareness that not everybody will agree with you. Wind your neck in and understand that we are all supporters of Rovers here

  20. It is still Rangers and the Rangers of old

Anything else is just hand wringing nonsense for me. It is not the clubs fault their owners fell foul of the law. The fans are forever entitled to celebrate the history of Rangers and continue in the tradition of Rangers

I think it showed his character and it’s not one I want in the trenches of a relegation battle

see szmodics for comparison. Do you think he would act in such a way?

    Yes.

All footballers go for money. We all do. Go on any construction site and everybody is bragging about being on a quid more than the next man. It is no different for footballers

If a team had come in for Szmodics in January and offered him £10k a week more, he'd have been gone
