Brereton should have been our "meal ticket" really
When you spend £7m on a player the expectation will always be high. That hampered him early doors. The contract should have been renewed though. You can't leave such an asset to within 18 months of his contract before starting to negotiate
I do understand why they didn't sell him for the £8m offered, but really being in that position was criminal. We should have got £20m+ for him during that season. And we would have done, had we offered a contract earlier

I mean, when that's meant to be your improvement with the new manager bounce it's not a great record. Especially when you factor who those games were against.
Likewise JDTs last 10 game stats doesn't factor in injuries or the fact he may have downed tools after 3 windows being shafted transfer wise.
I'm still yet to be convinced he's not a dud.
You give JDT an excuse of players downing tools and injuries, but then you don't offer that same leeway to Eustace
At the end of the day, they are the same set of players. If you think they were shown a soft side and an unwillingness to fight, why do you think that would revert immediately after John Eustace came in?
He came in during a particularly challenging part of the season really. The games came thick & fast, players were returning from injury which is always a delicate moment and the whole tide was turning against the club. I actually think he has done a good job. The football is improving and we aren't over committing any more. It was never going to be as satisfying on the eye as JDT, who was really trying to play PL level football with players not up to it. It is more pragmatic, with a better understanding of the quality we have at our disposal
I thought JDT was the best coach we have had in recent memory. He wasn't given the tools to really show it. John Eustace is different; he will work with what he has. For some people, that means he is a yes man, but for others it just shows a man that is willing to adapt and earn his living by doing the best job he possibly can with the resources available

JDT was very employable, wanted to go places quick, knew - and let be known - who wasn’t up to it, and wasn’t afraid of getting fired.
Eustace was on the scrap heap, grateful to get another gig, is delighted to not be managing complete donkeys, and will cling on by his fingertips no matter the indignities.
You couldn't have it more wrong about Eustace
But, it isn't a theme to know what you are talking about when it comes to John Eustace to be fair
I can't remember a manager getting as much undue stick on here than this bloke. It borders on stupid to be fair. Eustace had a few job offers before going with Rovers. He wanted this gig

You can't hide behind Tugay lads.
My immediate thought too tomphil
Following Tugay on social media, you can tell he probably doesn't have much of an idea about the true state of our football club
This really does stink of a "find yourself a figurehead" moment, particular after the likes of Speedie's comments in recent weeks

In the past I have seen good value in teams to beat us. Wigan last year for example. I think they were getting on to 6/1 to beat us at their place. They hadn't won in 9. They beat us 1-0. My head told me to put some money on it; my heart wouldn't let me
When you are looking at Rovers you'll find value because you know everything about them. I just can't bet on them though. Either to win or to lose. The only bet I have is a cheeky £10 on us to win the league every year. I know it's pissed up the wall, but one day that bet will come off and that money will be the sweetest cash you will ever earn

Probably points to how weak the squad has been over the season, especially with 5 subs other teams are replacing like for like and we are bringing on 15 year olds who can't even wear the kit sponsors.
Absolutely
The quality of our bench this season is as poor as it has been for years
Only last year, we had Bradley Dack, Daniel Ayala, Adam Wharton, Pears, Scott Wharton, Sorba Thomas, Leonard, Phillips
This year it has not been good enough. Those players have either moved on or been considered first team players.
Our bench for the last game of the season vs Milwall was: Ayala, Dack, Kaminski, Brittain, Dolan, Garrett and Leonard
If JDT had just been backed in that January transfer window we would have been in the play offs. We had a really good squad. We had Tony Mowbray to thank for some of that if we are being honest, but JDT had them coached to a seriously high level, even if there were questions over our 'spine' when going behind. What they have done to us over the last 2 transfer windows is nothing short of criminal; turned a squad like that into one where we look to the bench and see the likes of McFadzean

The only disappointment I have about yesterday is that we didn't bring on Telalovic when we went 4-0 up
I thought the lad had small glimpses of improvement under JDT. A couple of good bits of link up play and holding the ball up. Yesterday could have been a perfect game for him to get his first goal, which can totally change a forwards mentality
Other than that, a perfect performance. It all seemed to click

I won't read too much in to the loss. It was an underwhelming performance but we do have a lot of players missing
You get the impression this is Southgate's last throw of the dice. I can understand why he is sticking to the same squad that has performed admirably over the past 3 tournaments
I don't understand why he doesn't pick Tomori. He's playing in Italy and is a regular in a good AC Milan side. That Brainthwaite got the call up shows a bit of domestic bias to me. He isn't as good as Tomori and never will be
For me, Joe Gomez has to play over Harry Maguire. They are levels apart now.
With the injuries we had it meant it was a bit part team. A midfield of Gallagher and Rice does not win tournaments imo. I'd rather play TAA in there with Rice and Bellingham. Gallagher does a lot of nothing for me. Maddison deserves the call up before Gallagher
I will never, ever wish an injury on a player but Maguire being injured may be a blessing in disguise. It forces Southgate's hand. But if we lose Walker then we also lose our best defender and that could be tragic for Euro 24

Tim Farron is the one you need for that sort of thing
This regulator has been mooted for years though. At one point Gary Neville was leading the charge. The momentum seems to have been lost though

Rovers will be an attractive proposition to a potential buyer. I’ve always said it
A relatively good ground. Chances of further investment with the Riverside. Great facilities and academy. Good history and a solid high level English football club
The whole “who will buy us” is based on this £20m a year Venkys are supposedly putting in. The more I think about it, the more I’m doubting that’s true. How can it still require that much give the downscale we’ve had?

I thought we played much better today. Some good football to bring it out from the back but then the play just broke down. The movement up top is poor to say the least. Gallagher needs to learn the art of running in behind. He makes these lung busting runs..but you’d need a De Bruyne / Messi hybrid to find him regularly. It’s such a wasted effort
We should stick with a back 4. Still not convinced by our entire back line to be honest. Chrisene must be poor if he can’t dislodge Pickering, who I think is a “steady eddy” but not a player you will get promoted with. His final ball is really hit and miss. When Chrisene came I had a few messages telling me to watch out for him. What am I meant to be seeing?
We look far better with Tronstad who has been a magnificent signing. I really do wonder if Telalovic will ever get a chance here. Gally can’t buy a goal now but this lad gets 3/4 minutes at the end to just run around for a bit
Buckley needs to play as a 10. The problem is that Sammie is better at it than he is. Buckley is much better further up the pitch, pressing and driving with the ball. He’s a downgrade on Wharton but we all knew that
Brittain puts in some dangerous crosses. The problem is that we have the shortest 6 foot 5 centre forward you’ve ever seen

Surprised by that? I thought he was very established at that level and playing well for Palace in the Premier League? Is he injured?
What's funny / depressing is Tyler Morton has ben called up despite playing at Hull and being - as anyone can see - a much inferior player.
EDIT - just looked it up and Adam has never played for the U-21 - just the U-20... wow. Pretty amazing a player can be sold for £20M+ and not even get a U-21 call up. Shows the strength England has now in the youth teams. Harvey Elliott despite playing a key role for the team at the top of the table still not made his senior debut yet.
Harvey Elliott not being called up is as much a criticism of Southgate than it is testament to our strength in depth
Solanke should have had a chance this time around as well

The demand for housing isn’t there?! My house in the Ribble Valley has gone up in value by over 20% in 2 years, the Ribble Valley has a population problem, you can’t get a house here!
Badly worded
The demand from people moght be there, but not from the local authority
The housing in Brockhall and surrounding areas are classed as over-subscribed. There aren't enough schools, doctors etc to service what they already have. An extra 170 houses is not at the top of the list for either residents or councillors. Especially not in Brockhall Village

Would Venkys be able to sell the Club whilst the investigation is still live?

Whilst on the subject does no one think the training ground sale will come back and bite us on the arse at some point ?
Seeing as it was valued at probably 3 times it's real value or is that why they only appear to have actually paid half the money into the club for it ?
I think the value of the training ground is insignificant, really. The land is pretty much worthless to developers for the medium term. No way will it be able to be used for anything other than Rovers or some form of employment. One of the big criticisms of the brockhall development plan was that it just wasn't needed. The demand for housing just is not there in this area. When Rovers first took on Brockhall it was able to get planning permission in part because Rovers stressed it would continue to be a place of employment, as that is a condition of the land following its former use as a hospital / major employer.
If Venkys sell the club they will have to put the training ground back in control of BRFC
The whole training ground development was such a bizarre move looking back on it. It was never, ever going to be allowed, so why did they even try it?

I think it more likely the payment has been approved given the next court date is scheduled for August as opposed to depending on the "Wharton money"
What makes this miserable situation worse is the Indian judiciary is known to be painfully slow. This could drag on for years. We are on life support right now. The best thing "Madame" could do for this club is to look to move it on to somebody who has the ability to fund effectively. As ever, they are not interested in what is best for the club, but only for themselves
After a brief period of positivity in Mowbray and JDT we are now looking at another period similar to that when Bowyer, Lambert and Coyle were at the club. Zero sums of money spent, zero ambition and a period which will more than likely result in a relegation
As this league moves forward in revenue and quality, we are left struggling to keep up and it is 100% down to the Rao family. They are scum. There's no better word

This is one of the many ways that the current rules around football club ownership fails the fans
The court case in India has a direct impact on the club and therefore on the fans and the town itself. Yet we are left in the dark. It's not exactly clear what is going to happen. Most supporters have had an interest in Rovers long before they "bought us". Why on earth do fans not have a right to know what is going on at the club? Everything is second hand, or whatever can be gleamed from the internet
This leaves the whole sport open to abuses. The authorities need to get a grip but they show no appetite. Whilst the money comes rolling in and HMRC keep getting their huge PL tax bills then the govt doesn't really care what happens to clubs like us

Go away with the Steve Kean comparisons. As Matty says, he's a millions miles from it

They aren't the greatest of matches for us this weekend
Hudds play Rotherham, which should be a win for Huddersfield
QPR at Sunderland with Sunderland being in stinking form
Blues play Watford - we are desperate for that to be a draw

Not a lot of managers come out and slag off those above them. If any, really
Most of the time, managers - head coaches or whatever - will come out in public and feed a PR line because they know that gives them a better opportunity for future jobs. Eustace is no different
Wanting somebody to come in and immediately start slagging off the board is a bit of an odd desire for me. Even if they may deserve it
The goal at the moment is to stay in the league. If he just comes in and begins to throw his weight around then it helps nobody

What has John Eustace done or said that has made you think he is a "yes man"? And what exactly do you mean by it?

Absolutely. Good post tomphil
Somehow there's been a narrative formed that Eustace is this "yes man". It's bollocks
I have tried not to post much on the now two threads we have on Eustace. The other thread just being a total fucking joke for a Rovers fan forum by the way. I know John will never read this but him being called a cunt, useless, stupid or whatever else after a few weeks as head coach is almost making me turn away from contributing to the forum in the future. Given it is now a trend to screenshot comments from other Rovers fan platforms and post on here for a bitchfest you'd think they'd then think harder about their own posts. I guess not
It is misdirected anger. In some cases, it is just petulant and crap posting. Treating a fan discussion board as an almost personal notice board for mouth-frothing rants is no way to contribute
The comparisons between Eustace and Kean are just pathetic. Time for people to grow up I think. He's a bloke who like us loves football. He is not here to be a yes man or to fleece the club; he's been given a job to do, and he will try as best he can to do it. If the squad or he isn't up to it then really you have to point the blame at the people who have allowed it to get to this point. That isn't John. Calling him every name under the sun on a message board might make you feel a bit better, but it makes you look rather stupid yourself

I believe it is mental filtering with some people. They want to blame the easy thing, or what they can see. That is the players and the coaches. Nothing else really matters to them. The fact that the players and coaches have been downgraded ever since the Rao family bought the club does not seem to come into it
The next visible "party" are the fans. Hence, they receive the second most blame
The issue has always been that we do not have a suitable local journalist who are probing and ultimately printing the right things. I don't read the LT really. I get my Rovers news from here. The failure of the Lancashire Telegraph to really get to grips with the commotion at Ewood is a direct cause of the fan base apathy. They only read about the team and therefore only care about the team

Yes we could have
He is young, English and could score. He was going to get goals at this level. You sign a player like that on a longer contract, his worth goes up. If it wasn't that year, it would have been the one after
£8m wasn't a good offer
