That is the sort of logical, sensible, obvious move to make. Take advantage of their chaos and get a ready made experienced keeper for a low fee who should be OK for a season or two.

He won't need to get up to speed or develop.

Sadly it seems the primary function or focus of Blackburn Rovers these days isn't to get the best players possible but to act as a glorified academy to develop younger end players often for other clubs benefit.

So we end up with a short term solution but also have to nurture the player and suffer the drawbacks of inexperience.

I just feel like he overthinks some of the recruitment instead of going for sensible ones.

I can see him targeting a keeper who’s better playing out from the back than he is with his actual hands. Although I don’t see why any GK struggles with a short pass out to his centre half and play out from there.

By God the LT comments section is scary.

The latest article by Simon Smith is relatively scathing but ends up advocating we missed Smallwood's passion on Saturday.  You couldn't make it up.

If places got picked on passion then we would all be in contention for a starting spot!

Smallwood has 4/5 players ahead of him now, him going this morning would be a good start.

Barnsley left-back/left-wing back Tom Pearce moving from Leeds United to Barnsley. Miles ahead of Amari'i Bell in quality and development. Rovers nowhere near it regardless of blatantly needed left sided defensive reinforcements.

They are paying in the region of £300,000 for him. Absolute bargain!

Meanwhile Rovers are taking the very casual attitude of "well we don't need anyone, but if something good comes along we might go for it". This a week after 72 hours of solid enquiries and bids for a range of defenders in Germany and one in Holland.

The club is not making itself look good at the moment.

Pearce is as bad as Bell. 300k or not it’s pointless replacing a bang average left back with another, when the rest of the back 4 also need improving IMO.

Fraser Foster has a commanding presence but is prone to mistakes and blunders exactly like Raya. And I would say Raya already is a better shot stopper. He would definitely not be an upgrade in my opinion

Sorry but he would be a massive upgrade, more commanding of of his area, better from crosses, more experience. Although it won’t happen I fail to see the massive hole left my Raya if it’s filled with any of the keepers that have been linked.

  5. Just thinking to myself while sat round a pool drinking some shite local lager.

If this Gallagher deal gets done (likely), we could have the following options - Gallagher, Brereton, Chapman, Dack, Rothwell, Armstrong going forward.

A solid midfield with Johnson, Travis, Davenport and even Adam which I never thought I’d agree with.

Add a big horrible shithouse CB and I think we are on for an exciting season. Young & mostly British, hungry players. Something we haven’t had for a while.
