More on potential Carson move

A lot of talk about tactics and formation...to bring it a bit more on track, a thought just occurred to me.
Why is Butterfield still training with us? Assuming it's true he isn't under consideration for a contract. He isn't a free agent, he is still under contract at Derby. I'm confused that we are still using our resources for him. I assume he isn't paying us for the use of our expensive facilities, staff, canteen food etc. Small change in the world of football, maybe, but I thought we were trying to watch the pennies these days? If we have no plans to sign him, this should all be Derby's responsibility now. I imagine there is also some youngster who could be getting game time in these u-23 friendlies instead of him.
I can see why Adam is still here - we may not 'plan' to sign him, but if our CM situation changed I'm sure he'd be under consideration the way he has played. Well before Butterfield.
Totally agree it's a strange one

The latest LET interview with Mowbray doesnt sound good reg Davenport. Apparently hes going for a scan and was very upset after the game. Doesnt say what the injury is.
id imagine Davenport wouldnt be very emotional unless he knew it was fairly serious.
Looked good last game of season against Swansea when he came on. Had high Hope's for him this season. Hopefully he wont be out for long

You can't play Dack in the position above, that needs to be holding mid.
He would be in Grahams position as the false 9.
If you're looking at Liverpool, they have Keita--Henderson--Fabinho across the middle. Liverpool also have astonishingly good full backs who contribute an awful lot to the attack. Keita and Fabinho presumably adopt a more defensive mindset to cover in when the full backs bomb forward.
Even taking things relatively (as in, i know we aren't playing at the same level as Liverpool) our full backs are no where near good enough to adopt that role.
To be honest i don't think we have the players in pretty much any position to adopt this style. It would also require a really high level of fitness if we are to be constantly pressing when out of possession, something that has been criticised a lot in the past.
We need to play to our strengths and some of these tactics mentioned don't play to ours

Yeah but with some it is obvious that they are that good already and ready straight away. Look at our very own Duff, Dunn and even Jones. The likes of Ronney and Owen - none went out on loan as it was obvious that they were already better than many of those ahead of them.
Travis was rumoured to be going out on loan last season and didn't and he flourished when he got his chance.

Are there any Celtic players there from when Tony was manager if there is that's who were signing lol

Another pre season win 3-1. Rangers should be the best test we will face on Sunday

And you are a football expert? Talk about condescending. I probably have as much football knowledge as you.
We all want Rovers to do well. I'm frustrated by lack of additions but I'll get behind whoever's is on the pitch come August 9th when deadlines gone

Baffling to me that some are happy for us to essentially wait until the deadline to get players in, giving them no time to bed into the squad or have any kind of pre-season getting them used to their team mates and how we set up. Just throw them in the deep end and hope for the best.
Because we haven't got the players we needed early we are gonna have to take it to the last minute. They will then take time to settle. Not ideal situation but if the right positions are covered we can hope to have a good season

Butterfield was on loan at Bradford last season, not sure we should be bringing him in. Adam perhaps but not Butterfield..
Adam has 3 in pre season don't really have a central midfielder who chips in with goals. So I wouldn't be against it. We seem to have a lot of midfielders though so if he stays we need to move some on

Nothing makes my blood boil more than hearing Evans & Smallwood. Honestly one (even better) both need to go.
Smallwood was good in league one but for me was found wanting in the Championship. Would rather him go between him and Evans. Depending on what happens with Butterfield and Adam could decide Evans fate

Quite strange that we havent managed to get a goalie or a defender in by now with season starting in two weeks.
That's what is worrying me. It's been evident for a while they were needed

How many goals have Adam scored for us in the last two weeks and how many goals have Smallwood and Evans scored combined since their arrival at Ewood
Very true. Seen online that were not going to pursue a deal with Adam. Not heard anything about Butterfield yet. But hes certainly scoring goals in pre season to put himself in the shop window

Just seen online thought I'd share

We all have our opinions on how many defence reinforcements we need. However the closer it gets to the Charlton game it becomes more important to get some deals done.

It's all well and good getting some experienced heads in, and I'm all for it, but the point still remains no matter how much experience is in the side, and no matter who is in goal, any team with Bennett & Bell as full backs will concede a lot of goals.
A new back 4 bar Leninhan is required don't think we will get 3 additions for Charlton game. And a new keeper. Depends on whether he uses loan signings to to bolster squad

I hope we get the keeper deal wrapped up this week.
The first game of the season is closing in fast and we could do with the keeper coming in as soon as.
Totally agree need the keeper in quick to get an understanding with back four we currently have.

Yep Port Vale thanks

Ruddy was mentioned in an earlier post. He has always done ok in championship. Looked good at Wolves when they went up from championship before they signed Patricio. He would be a good buy unless hes happy benchwarming in premier league. Could command big wages though

He was a good keeper Hart. Pepe didn't rate him and his confidence nosedived. Looked shakey since everywhere hes been with the odd moment to show us he used to be a good keeper

Wasn’t getting personal, only called you big man because I presumed you named yourself Tormund after Tormund Giantsbane from Game Of Thrones. If not and it’s your actual name then I’m jealous.
We have had some great in goal. I remember some mistakes in games from Darren Collier and Matt Dickins. Anyone remember them clowns

Davenport looks like hes picked up another injury so whether its serious or not could help his case for a deal
