Well, we ventured down to the Riverside, with my 7 year old full of awe at the size of the stadium and saying how noisy it was. Downhill appeared to be the direction of travel for a while, and I did wonder whether the decision to go would be shown to be a mistake for a while.

On reflection, four very good goals (their early strike was clinical and an amazing finish) but how poor do Sheff Utd look? You'd have thought they'd had the 0-7 tonking on Weds from the way they capitulated. It made me wonder whether a glass-jaw back four is just a feature of the also rans in the division this season (although that's something we've had for years anyway...)

My daughter's summary? Meh - she said it was too cold, too noisy and just boring. Big question is, will something about the experience stay with her and bring her back as she grows up? Time will tell. I hope Rovers go on to more stability, but am not holding my breath with the clowns in charge across the club. Big up to those who organised the banner at the training complex - has anyone posted the picture on social media, so there is a chance it might wing its way to Pune and the Goldie Looking Chain mob?

Result? - yeah! Surprised? - yeah! Flash in the pan? - probably yeah..

What's the story behind the banner? What did it say?

Big shout out to the supporters who put the banner outside the training ground.....motivational?

Tomphil called it correctly for today...cunning Mowbray normally dredges out a victory when in dire need of one.....perhaps thats why hes the longest serving manager in the Championship?

Great performance and stunning goals.....anyone think Ben plays a bit like a "ghost" where the ball somehow appears over the line as if by magic following a clumsy run-in despite the best attempts of defenders to stop him? Or is it the red wine talking?

    What banner was this?

Absolutely. Hes not going anywhere until seasons end, that’s when his contract runs out.

Todays game day thread would’ve been one page, if not for the obvious, “Mowbray out”, “sack mowbray” comments. Why our fans cannot enjoy a win over a quality opponent for about 5 minutes, is beyond me.

I agree. I does my swede in! I'm far from happy with most things at Rovers but it dilutes any sound argument by turning everything into negative.

Thanks Stuart. Top item in todays LT as well.

Clearly with the Club doing/acting much better in the last 18 months the RoversTrust is looking to re-set its relationship with the Club.

There still could be a sale and (unlike Blackpool) we do not want to be caught offguard by this. About 10 of the Trust's 800 members meet monthly to discuss strategy and actions. We have been doing a 'gap analysis' recently on which skills we do NOT have(eg Crowdfunding, Membership Development etc) and will be sending out a communication re this soon.

Personally, I have been 'lurking' intently on the Attendance thread and agreeing with most of the ideas. These we may take to the Club before Christmas.

Any one who is interested in the Trust's activities and future work plan can email me on  chair@roverstrust.co.uk

Thankyou mhead. It's reassuring to know that there are folk out there sticking up for the fans.

    A bad thing?

It's not really clued up to see that Mowbray has done a poor job.

Praise him all you like for steadying the ship but he's done a good job of unsteadying it. At any other club, after spending the money he's had, and the quite frankly baffling decisions he's made on and off the pitch, he'd be out of a job.

I've seen some daft comments about us getting promoted to the Premier League since we signed a league 1 full back. Am I really unkind saying that's "daft". It's just common sense that losing a 29 goal striker and bringing in only one permanent signing, a league 1 full back who is being paraded around like a star signing, isn't going to turn us into play off candidates overnight. But for some that's all it takes, it's daft talk.

I hope we get lucky but history and basic sanity would tell me otherwise.

Most of which I would agree with.

Lol, im 48 mate and yes I remember it. You still crying about about the 4-3 get over it.

That's why I put at the start of my post palace supporter in peace.

Seems you have that day scared on your memory, we've all had shit ones and I've no problem with blackburn never have or will. Brighton on the other hand is my hate. So move on mate have a coke and a smile.

That was without doubt one of my worst days both footballing and non footballing. It was the culmination of years of almost making it. Then this was the "surely this time it's happening". ......then it went sour again. Can't bear to hear "Glad all over", even now.

On Armstrong, its really hard to judge how good he is. He's quick and scores goals at our level. David Speedie was better and Simon Garner did it for years, if that helps!

...you've just got the hots for Debbie Harry!

Just catching up on the whole thread. I take my hat off to you pal. Even if what you're trying to do ends in failure, the very fact that you're leading by example and showing passion is enough. Maybe you'll inspire a few others.

They'll not fill the corners in for the same reason they didn't in the first place when the stadium was rebuilt.

The PNE or WBA stand is the way forwards though, get it a bit smaller capacity wise but closer to the pitch and with other facilities incorporated.

Yeah I'm sure you're right pal. I'm no engineer but couldn't any barrier that is built have an 'open' function when games arent on. The atmosphere is so important to me and I think it would help.

  9. I'd like to replace the Riverside in a way that reduces the current capacity. The ground is too big as it is. I seem to recall Preston's new stand is around 3.5k.

I'd like to see it right up against the pitch.

Also I would like to see the corners filled in, in some way (not by seats) as the gaps have a big negative effect in atmosphere.

I know that the open corners is supposed to help with the health of the pitch (!!!!), but  I'm sure in this day and age there are ways of somehow opening and closing any barrier that fills the corners in.

Given that we would only average 25k in the Prem or 15k in Champ, out of a 30k stadium, we need to do all we can to help the atmosphere and the feeling of a fuller ground.

  10. To me legends aren't about how good they are but what they contributed to the club at the level they were. Bennett isnt a legend to me but will be positively memorable. And j believe he helped set a standard within the club. I have a lot of respect for him and to me he's not just a "thanks, and bye bye" player.

  11. I'd like to see a reduced capacity with the stand shunted towards the pitch making the corners filled in and preferably the height of the stand somehow fitting with the BB and Darwen ends.

Mainly to help the atmosphere of the place. Crowd noise seems to get lost due to the current Riverside.

If we could shut off the upper tiers behind the goals and so reducing the capacity to below 25k then 12k crowds start to feel a bit less sparse!

Maybe even flag off the back third of the jw upper, making it feel fuller.
