Really impressed with Sorba’s decision making this game. Has made the correct decision whether it’s trying to beat the man or play the pass. Miles ahead of what Gally can do on the right.
Going to be very tough to stay ahead this game but will keep the faith!

It would say a lot about the recruitment team to see us go for another from Mowbray's list, just like Brittain.
Is it not the recruitment teams' list?

Saying this at the risk of being shot, I like Gregg. I'd been impressed with what I saw before the transfer window and now he's admitted there has been a monumental fuck up and is taking responsibility for it. It was a shit-show, we know it, he knows it. He's clearly still learning on the job, but now he's been bitten he needs to ensure this never happens again.
That might not be a popular view point on here but I think he has a level of intelligence and communication that I haven't seen someone at Rovers have in a long time. Even though this was bad, everyone is allowed one fuck up in my eyes.

This wait smells to me like the move has been blocked and we're waiting on the result of an appeal

The fact the Brierley hasn’t been announced yet either, gives me hope this is a comms thing rather than it’s fallen through.

You have to wonder what anyone who has actual insight into what’s happening at the club on the transfer front would make of how we discuss the windows in here. We’re a chaotic bunch.
“How the fuck am I being blamed for that!?” Broughton, 19-01-23.
Probably.-

Markanday is technically brilliant. Could become a big player for us.

What a stupid argument for not signing a goalscorer in his prime.
Sounds like you’re angry at Joe rather than Rovers?

This is going to be a long game if we sit in for the entirety and hope we can nick a goal

I struggle to think of a recent Rovers game where I cared so little about the result.
I do care however about JDT risking two of our best players so close to our biggest game of the season. Absolutely nonsensical.
Edit: The fuck do I know…
The edit made me laugh!

Starting to wish we could have a Callum Brittain at rwb and a Callum Brittain at lwb.

JDT trying to out tinker Tony here

This formation really plays to our strengths. Brittain has some freedom to get forward. Our two ball playing centre mids allow for Travis to concentrate on battling. The tall strikers can actually play as strikers instead of being expected to be nippy wingers.
Adam Wharton has a coolness on the ball that I don’t think can be taught. He needs more playing time as he can really transform how we approach games this season.

Looks like we’re finally getting on top of contracts. Fair play to the lancs live journo sticking his neck on the line getting the early report in on him signing.

Tactically today has been all wrong. Just once, I’d love Dack in attacking mid and and Brereton through the middle. Seen as much of Dack as we have Brereton this game.
One positive, Brittain has looked exciting.

JDT just said there’s the prospect of “one or two more” coming in tomorrow.

Really enjoying Wharton and Morton tonight. When Brittain is back Travis should be worried about his starting place!

Just as an example, who is really worth decent money out of the current squad, I'd say Kaminsky, Scott Wharton, Travis and Brereton.
Maybe Buckley if he becomes more consistent, maybe Dack if he got back to his best and (for his age) Phillips based on his likely transfer value.
The rest - meh - if they don't like it they know where the door is.
That's 6-7 players at best not 25. Ought to be room for a few more higher earners.
I’m not sure there is room for higher earners once we replace most of the players who left last year. I think Greg said the budget is about the same this year as the last year.
To me it seems that any player we go for that’s wanted by clubs with higher attendances or parachute payments we get blown out of the water by. To get these players we aren’t talking about paying a couple of hundred thousand a year more, but a million or even more. It has happened but it’s rare that we lose out on players going to clubs in a similar financial situation to us over a couple of grand a week.

Out squad is now made up of youth team graduates many of whom will be on a few grand a week. Room is created in the budget by doing this and you can't have a clutch of players on 20k pwk and the rest on 5 or less either but that;s the way it's going.
It is at the moment but it seems we are trying to replace a good number of those graduates so the expenditure will go back to what it was last season.
In terms of people being paid higher salaries, I’ve seen it all throughout my working life. If some people are getting paid more it pisses other people off and then they want more, or they leave. Then we’re back in a position where we either pay higher salary to get a good player in, and so increasing the budget further or we get a lower quality of player.

I don't think anyone is suggesting everyone should have a pay rise.
But you can’t get new players in on big contracts then when other players come to renew their contracts offer them less than what the newer players get. Eventually it leads to an increase in wages throughout the squad.

Time to get Siggy and Semir on now for them to do the job they were bought to do.
