Karlan Grant, Josh Sargent, Joe Rothwell (30 appearances), Adam Armstrong, Ellis Simms, Che Adams etc have all had their moments in the Premier League and find themselves playing Championship football. It will take more than 5 appearances and 4 goals for me to say he's made it there but the early signs are better for him. I'd still be surprised if he becomes a regular starter for any Premier League side above the bottom 3.

I was responding more to "I'm not sure where it will go from there". Whether he "makes it" as a consistent Prem performer remains to be seen, I just don't think he'll struggle for offers

I still don't think he's good enough to do it regularly in the prem but I'm not surprised he can get a goal or two for the league's bottom club. I'm not sure where it will go from there. Glad it's working out but would he get a game anywhere else?

I don't think he'll struggle for offers at all, he's done easily enough for a promoted club, or a Palace/Everton etc to be interested. Back to Forest might be a shout if they stay up

I think she grew up in Stoke, but was born in Chile.
    She’s effectively English really.

She came to UK when she was about 15 or 16 so still mainly grew up in Chile really. Personally I lay the blame squarely at her feet, she never spoke to her kids in Spanish at all growing up. Massive waste of an opportunity - and seemingly paying for it now!

I think it was pretty unnecessary for the new Chile manager to come out and say that really, especially when he won't have even met the bloke, never mind seen him with the squad. The stuff about team spirit doesn't make much sense when you consider the players and fans have loved him since he's been with Chile, his impact has only ever been positive in that regard. To me it smacks of a new boss in town singling out a popular player to make an example of. It may be a bit of a miscalculation, a lot of fans won't be happy he's been left out.

Regarding learning the language, to offer something of a defence of him, it can be quite hard to get opportunities to practise a language when you're an English-speaker, because everywhere you go there will be people who speak at least a bit of your own language, and are keen to practise themselves. I suspect that will be the case in the Chile squad, there will be a core of players who speak a reasonable bit of English who he's fallen in with, and his attempts to interact in Spanish will be reduced to a bit of a novelty on the bus or in the pub, rather than any meaningful everyday communication. I'm sure he's been taking classes but that alone can be very slow-going in terms of getting up to speed with real-time spoken interaction. For anyone saying they've got up to an "intermediate level" on duolingo, I'd like to see you go and interact in real time with a big group of working-class lads speaking at a hundred miles an hour, using all sorts of slang and niche football terminology etc. I've spoken (Chilean) Spanish to a very high level for at least 15 years and even I get lost quite easily - following that kind of language as a learner is near impossible.

But again, all his mum's fault really!

“Makes a real difference to the tempo of the front line”

    “Works ever so hard”

    ”a real grafter”

”I love how positive he is”

Is it a permanent and is any fee involved?

Not much is my answer to your question, but if teaming up again with your manager gets him interested and fit he may do ok.

Not sure but I'd imagine it'll be a cheap permanent

    I would keep it open.

BBD at Chile under a manager who clearly doesn't rate him and as a rather archetypal English sort of player at Villareal is going to be interesting to keep half an eye on.

Sorry to dredge this up but where does the clearly not rating him thing come from?

  7. This picture was posted on our board, he was making a delivery to Bargain Booze in the fine city of Stoke-on-Trent. Scored a few goals against us back in the day, for various clubs..

I presume it will be easier for you lot than it was for us...

I'd never forgive the club, or him, if we lost him on a free to Stoke this summer. Or to any other Championship club (with the possible exception of teams who have just come down).

Pleased to report from Santiago that BBD has been doing the rounds today and I managed to get word to him that it’s imperative he goes back to his roots and signs for the Potters, and that the ghosts of Stanley Matthews and Gordon Banks mandate it.

The feedback I received was “he laughed”, which I’m taking to mean he’ll be opening negotiations with our transfer team as soon as he touches back down in Blighty. A dream come true I’m sure you’ll agree… 😉👍🏼

  9. There’s the clip. A few Stokies are getting all excited about it but it’s very silly to read anything into it, he’s just giving an off-the-cuff response to a daft hypothetical.. he’d also just been talking about how his family were all Stoke fans so it was fresh in his mind. None of it means he’s desperate to sign for us now.

That said, we’ll have a bit of money to spend in the summer and if nothing has been sorted in Spain and we put an attractive offer on the table and convinced him we were on a proper promotion charge.. maybe he’d think twice about it?

Stranger things have happened 😅 (in his case more than most)

Are your lot always so pacey?

Several times all over the pitch we had metres of head starts, and your players just galloped past them regardless.

I.e. Is that a strength you've noticed all season, or did our players have lead in their boots?

It’s been literally years since I’ve seen us break with pace like we do now. It’s partly fitness instilled by Neil, partly Ty Campbell getting back to his best and partly some very shrewd loan signings.

I appreciate xG is in fashion but the one I'm more into is aG (actual goals...) I believe xg doesn't actually guarantee the ball has gone in the back of the net? In fact an xg of 4.75 when a team ends a game goal-less suggests they couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo/ score in a brothel which would be of greater concern for me.....

Your aGs don’t exactly look too clever either to be fair 😉

Looks like you’re improving though, both statistically and from what you guys have said here. You’re in a great position.

If a full season is still a small sample, that only goes to emphasise how it isn't that great a predictor. And recent matches suggest JDT already has improved our processes. We absolutely battered Leicester. I don't know what our XG was for that game, but there is a post on here showing a Leicester fan on their forum saying we should probably have been 6 or 7 up. I'm only worried for next season if JDT leaves or isn't backed.

If you expect a defeat why were you puzzled by our positivity?

I guess I just meant overall I expected to see more concern about your stats. But if you don’t read too much into it, fair enough. You’re obviously the ones watching every week.

I don’t “expect a defeat” as such, it just wouldn’t surprise me. I don’t know what to think about it honestly, I’m kind of just hoping it’s a good open game, as opposed to our customary 0-1 home reversals to teams that score early then sit in two banks and waste time for 78 minutes.
