We hadn't lost three permanent first teamers of the calibre of DL, RN and JR at this point last year though.
(Edit: Plus JPVH and to a lesser extent Khedra)
Adam Armstrong, Harvey Elliott, Lewis Holtby...

Gregg has got some serious work to do to prevent this being the worst transfer window in Rovers history.
Mowbray must've been an absolute miracle worker then considering that by this point last year we'd only signed Leighton Clarkson and lost just as much

I would not oppose to a new left back but Pickering certainly isnt woeful. He was very steady in the first 3 games and has been no worse than Brittain in the last 2.
First Pickering statement I’ve agreed with

I cannot understand why we didn't offer another contract to Jacob Davenport, even for 12 months. Whenever he played I thought he was reasonable and always gave his all for the cause.
Pretty high wages for what he offered, no better than Jake Garrett and less available, there’s a reason Reading and Hearts didn’t want him

Davenport was better than Szmodics. And we wouldn't have wasted £2m
Wildly strange comparison

Heard suggestions JPVH has rejected us to Sunderland but don’t buy that for a second

I love van Hecke as much as the next fan, but if we’re playing 4 at the back over 5 then I’m not sure he’s suited. He was brilliant as a central defender in a 3, sweeper style, but there were times in a back 4 he seemed too rash at times, left us in trouble more often than should have been
Still think JDT wants to play a 343 but doesn’t have the players for it

You’ve confidently stated this since we bought him, and I really hope you are right.
Any more performances like the one on Wednesday and this statement is going to look very premature though.
Think it’s unfair to target any individuals from Wednesday, a genuinely woeful team performance, JDT got his game plan wrong

Silence is deafening on the transfer front. No links and no activity. I know were pretty good at keeping things quiet but given how small the squad is and after getting found out midweek its worrying there haven't even been any rumors arise since.
I suspect all is not well behind the scenes. Hopefully JDT doesnt see his arse soon.
Silence doesn’t mean much, was deafening silence in the RB front until 25 hours before Brittain was holding a Rovers shirt

Pretty sure Mowbray did have money available to him in Aug 21, opted against spending it

You’ll be first in line slamming the owners if he leaves for nothing next year. If we want to be less reliant on Venky’s, this is the model we have to live with.
Dont want him to go but it seems inevitable, as it was with Armstrong. If it gets north of £15-17m then we can’t turn that down.
the important thing is that we leave enough time to adequately reinvest

It wouldnt be a surprise. See last summer. Also see the summer when we sold Hanley and Duffy. And other summers under Venkys. Such inconsistency is why a Brentford type model wont happen.
Last summer the money was available, the manager (who is gone) chose not to spend it

We sat back and allowed £10 million to go down the pan this summer by neglecting the Lenihan, Nyambe and Rothwell situations, even when presented with a chance to claw some cash in for Rothwell in January.
So it seems to me we can afford to let his contract run down.
If we aren't going to reinvest the proceeds and spend on quality does it benefit Rovers in any way?
Again, why wouldnt it be reinvested?

I think the benefit of having Brereton in the team for the next 43 games is at least as great if not greater than receiving a few million quid profit that won't be spent.
Why won't it be spent?

Good.
I'd absolutely take him... on no more than 15k a week. In short, I wouldn't take him.

Regardless, he won't be playing in a Rovers shirt this season

If we're talking from the perspective of a championship supporter he'd be one of the best in the league

Let's not take the piss, Phil Jones is a very good defender.

He gets 14 points on the work permit calculator thing that Joe posted. 15 is the minimum limit, but they might be able to go to ‘exceptions’ whatever that means.
Apparently the points are eased a bit for anyone born after Jan 1st 2002 so if that’s the case he should pass

Long shot but does anybody know anyone selling an official coach ticket for Wednesday?

Obviously not, I didn't say that. I'm saying that his awareness and positioning was not what it should have been from a 'top player' at this level. You can play 'what is expected of you' whilst still doing the basics right. Nymabe didn't do this and I don't think you can put it directly down to the manager.
Attacking-wise, I think he likely would have improved under JDT as I feel TM wasn't very good in this respect, but I definitely there was a lot more to be desired from him defensively than some make out.
Think people make out he was a good player defensively because he was good 1 on 1, that was about as far as his defensive capabilities stretched as a full back
